Ring Learning With Errors: Quantum Safe Encryption For Space-Based Assets, Gage Hauptman, Beck Jorgensen Feb 2026

Ring Learning With Errors: Quantum Safe Encryption For Space-Based Assets, Gage Hauptman, Beck Jorgensen

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

Space-based assets rely on public key cryptography to ensure secure command, control, and telemetry operations. However, conventional algorithms like Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) are susceptible to Shor’s algorithm when exposed to advanced quantum computing. In this poster, we focus on a quantum-resistant encryption methodology rooted in polynomial rings, specifically Ring Learning With Errors (RLWE). Rather than assessing its quantum resilience, we aim to evaluate throughput and timing variations across diverse telemetry data payloads on representative CPU hardware commonly used in space assets. We will analyze the encryption durations of telemetry payloads and project an experimental encryption rate …

Seed-Induced Uniqueness In Transformers: Subspace-Aligned Latent Keys For Authentication, Ayse Okatan Feb 2026

Seed-Induced Uniqueness In Transformers: Subspace-Aligned Latent Keys For Authentication, Ayse Okatan

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

We introduce Model-Bound Latent Exchange (MoBLE), a decoder-binding property in Transformer autoencoders that we formalize as Zero-Shot Decoder Non-Transferability (ZSDN). In a controlled character-level identity task with iso-architectural models trained on identical data but different random seeds, we observe that self-decoding achieves 86-92% exact sequence match and ≈98-99% token accuracy, while zero-shot cross-decoding collapses to chance (≈ 1/vocabulary size) with 0% exact matches. This sharp separation persists despite identical architectures and training recipes, and is corroborated by weight-space distances and attention-divergence diagnostics. We argue that ZSDN is best interpreted as model binding-an authentication and accesscontrol mechanism for latent representations-on identity …

Eva Tool Actuation Solutions In Micro-G Orbit: The Hyperion, Riley Thirlwall, Mykailla Harper, Ram Varanasi, Prajit Maddali, Lexi Cook, Alec Bermudez Feb 2026

Eva Tool Actuation Solutions In Micro-G Orbit: The Hyperion, Riley Thirlwall, Mykailla Harper, Ram Varanasi, Prajit Maddali, Lexi Cook, Alec Bermudez

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

In the past, NASA has developed various tool restraint systems to prevent equipment loss during extravehicular activities. However, many rely on active locking mechanisms, which can get complex in microgravity. This project details the design, development, and evaluation of a Passive Capture Tool Dock (PCTD) featuring a push-to-lock clip mechanism. This prototype was designed for microgravity environments for NASA’s 2026 Micro-g NExT Challenge 2. The device is designed to passively secure Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) tools to the astronauts' toolbelt for spacewalk use. To engage, tools are pushed through an elastic U-clip, which locks it in place. To disengage, the …

Building The Erau Solar Telescope: Advancing Heliophysics Research And Education Through Optical Innovation, Erin Abraham, Sarah Hoover, Skylar G. Butler, Margret Stanley, Gwynlyn Hannah

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

The new Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Solar Telescope represents a campus-wide collaboration to design and install a high-resolution solar observatory. The ERAU solar telescope, aiming for first light by Summer 2026, will integrate research-grade instrumentation, student training opportunities, and expand public engagement with the ERAU observatory. The telescope is housed within a 2.3-meter refurbished dome structure whose electrical and structural systems are being upgraded to support automated dome rotation and environmental stabilization. The optical design features a multi-element lens and mirror assembly optimized for a 1° field of view. The optical assembly includes a downport centered in the dome that …
