A Bibliography Of Faculty Scholarship, Kathryn J. Dufour Law Library Oct 2026

A Bibliography Of Faculty Scholarship, Kathryn J. Dufour Law Library

Scholarly Articles

The purpose of this bibliography is to record in one place the substantial body of scholarship produced by the current faculty at the Catholic University, Columbus School of Law. From its humble beginnings under the tutelage of founding Dean William Callyhan Robinson, through its adolescent period when, like so many other American law schools, it was trying to define its pedagogical niche, to its eventual merger with the Columbus University Law School in 1954, the law school at Catholic University has always retained a scholarly and remarkably productive faculty. The sheer quantity of writing, the breadth of research and the …

Can Cirilo Change The World? Cirilo F. Bautista's Lyric Poems In Times Of Crisis, Kristal Joyce Ibarra

Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance

Contemporary crises continue to confront Filipinos. These include the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic corruption within the Philippine government, the red-tagging of activists, the deterioration of institutional integrity and public confidence in the Philippine government, and the US war against Iran, together with its global repercussions such as rising oil prices and displacement. This paper proposes that individuals turn to literature, beyond the fields of science or policymaking, during times of crisis and distress. Specifically, the lyric poems of National Artist for Literature Cirilo F. Bautista, distinguished by their evident relevance, form, and capacity to influence readers both …

Quality Assurance Project Plan - Spokane River Pfas Study, Chad Pritchard Oct 2026

Quality Assurance Project Plan - Spokane River Pfas Study, Chad Pritchard

EWU PFAS Research Collection

Assessing the impacts of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination across multiple aquifers and multiple sources requires a detailed understanding of the hydrogeologic framework to quantifiably determine PFAS sources. The West Plains of eastern Washington is an ideal natural laboratory to study the fate and transport of PFAS because the general geohydrologic framework has been established and collaboration with several related PFAS projects will maximize the use of grant funds. This project will help the population, environment, and commercial entities of the West Plains by building a transport model, delineating PFAS contamination, and using unique PFAS distribution at different locations …

Chapter 6: Dragon's Breath Sauce, Garon C. Smith Oct 2026

Chapter 6: Dragon's Breath Sauce, Garon C. Smith

G. Wiz’s Book of Spells

Dragon’s Breath Sauce is a collection of fun things to do with liquid nitrogen. The chapter title comes from using the cryogenic fluid to chill Cheetos Puffcorn to -321 degrees Fahrenheit and then eating them at this temperature. When popped in a saliva-moistened mouth, the cold causes the moisture in one’s breath to condense into fog. Breathing out releases a cloud that can be imagined as smoke from a fire-breathing dragon. In addition, liquid nitrogen offers a chance for audience members to briefly immerse their hand in a pool of watery-looking fluid, yet pull it out instantly and completely dry. …

Death By A Thousand Cuts: Thoughts On Protecting Faculty And Staff Morale From Ever-Increasing Administrative Demands, Timothy R. Levine Oct 2026

Death By A Thousand Cuts: Thoughts On Protecting Faculty And Staff Morale From Ever-Increasing Administrative Demands, Timothy R. Levine

Journal of the Association for Communication Administration

Faculty life is more challenging and demanding than ever. Many university administrators give lip service to promoting faculty and staff job satisfaction, retention, morale, and engagement. This essay focuses on one threat to the faculty and staff: the increasing bureaucratic demands from ever more bloated university administrations. A chair-level mitigation strategy is proposed in which chairs selectively shield faculty and staff from some of the burden, while prioritizing and explaining the merits of mission-critical tasks in ways that are transparent and align with scholarly values.

"A View From Mid-Field": Preparing Middle Managers For The Communication Paradoxes Of Change Management, Jennifer A. Sandoval, Robert S. Littlefield Oct 2026

"A View From Mid-Field": Preparing Middle Managers For The Communication Paradoxes Of Change Management, Jennifer A. Sandoval, Robert S. Littlefield

Journal of the Association for Communication Administration

In this study, 20 middle managers are interviewed about the increasing need for flexibility, responsiveness, and change management skills at a large, diverse, and public Southeastern university. The data reveal the middle managers identifying and coping with four paradoxical aspects of their change management role: the cognitive/internal paradoxes of capacity and knowledge and the behavior/external paradoxes of advocacy and process. The results demonstrate how these academic administrators managed the shifting terrain through internal agency (knowledge) and external agency (behavior). These paradoxes reveal the complexity of their role as a multihyphenate in today’s academic landscape as well as an overarching tension …

Charting The Pathways: Exploring Institutional Affiliations Of Past Presidents Among The Various Communication Associations, Aubree A. Herman, Narissra Maria Punyanunt-Carter Phd

Journal of the Association for Communication Administration

This study examines the historical affiliations of past presidents of major U.S. communication associations to identify patterns in disciplinary leadership, organizational representation, and demographic change over time. By tracing the institutions associated with these leaders, the analysis documents both continuity and change in the sources of visible leadership within the field. Findings reveal substantial institutional concentration within individual associations, with a relatively small number of universities accounting for a disproportionate share of presidential terms. The results also demonstrate a pronounced shift in the composition of association leadership. Women represented only a small proportion of presidents before the 1970s but have …

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Background: Gastroesophageal variceal bleeding carries significant morbidity and mortality in patients with portal hypertension. Multiple pharmacological, endoscopic, and interventional strategies have emerged for prophylaxis, yet no network meta-analysis has comprehensively compared the full treatment spectrum across both primary and secondary prophylaxis settings. We aimed to evaluate their relative efficacy within a single unified framework. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and frequentist random-effects NMA of RCTs comparing propranolol, nadolol, carvedilol, EBL, combination therapy (EBL plus beta-blocker), and TIPS. Databases searched included PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, Scopus, and ClinicalTrials.gov through January 2026 (PROSPERO: CRD420261304355). Outcomes included bleeding/rebleeding risk and all-cause mortality. …

Weird Cops (Agency Police), Farhang Heydari Oct 2026

Weird Cops (Agency Police), Farhang Heydari

Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications

The police badge has migrated deep into the administrative state. Parks, schools, transit, housing, revenue, conservation, insurance, and gaming agencies now field tens of thousands of sworn “Agency Police”—often with full arrest powers despite missions far removed from general public safety. The footprint of these officers is significant and expanding, outpacing the growth of traditional law enforcement. Far from being limited to certain communities, Agency Police attract support across the political spectrum, from law-and-order policymakers to reformers. And yet, Agency Police are largely ignored in legal scholarship. The result is that a large slice of U.S. criminal enforcement is poorly …

Using Demographics And Psychographics To Advance The Great Commission: Lessons From The National Association Of Free Will Baptists, Edward E. Moody Jr. Oct 2026

Using Demographics And Psychographics To Advance The Great Commission: Lessons From The National Association Of Free Will Baptists, Edward E. Moody Jr.

Great Commission Research Journal

For decades, marketers have used demographics and psychographics to engage different segments of the population. Psychographics refers to the study of people’s activities, interests, opinions, values, attitudes, and lifestyles to better understand and predict behavior beyond what can be learned from demographic characteristics alone (Demby, 1974; Wells & Tigert, 1971). This paper examines whether these strategies can be effectively adapted to advance the Great Commission. The practices of the early church, particularly those of the Apostle Paul, reflect principles that are consistent with contemporary demographic and psychographic analysis. In this paper, the process of using an approach to help churches …

My Pilgrimage In The Growth Of The Church, Charles Van Engen

Great Commission Research Journal

I have lived a life invested in the growth of the church and forming leaders who would mobilize the church toward growth. I have sought to pay forward what others did for me. Born of missionary parents, I was raised in the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico. From 1973 to 1985, my wife, Jean, and I served the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico in Chiapas, Mexico, in leadership formation, training evangelists, pastors, and teachers of rapidly growing churches. In 1981, I received a Ph.D. in missiology under Johannes Verkuyl at the Free University of Amsterdam. I taught Mission Theology …

Outside The Church Walls: An Empirical Exploration Of Organizational Culture And Pastoral Leadership In Two Urban Churches, Althea P. Gordon-Scott, Joshua D. Henson, Bethany D. Peters, Katrina Hutchins

Great Commission Research Journal

A mini-ethnographic case study explored the interconnections of organizational culture and pastoral leadership with sustainable outreach in two very different churches that focus on ministry to people with life-controlling issues and economic need: a small, primarily Black church in the Great Lakes region and a large, primarily White and Hispanic church in the western United States. Despite their differences, the churches shared similar espoused values and leadership characteristics that facilitated their outreach initiatives. Themes derived from the data include altruistic foundations, the value of relationships, exemplary pastoral leadership, organizational challenges, agile organizational systems, and the centrality of God.

Caribbean Hearing Health Readiness: A Data-Guided Method For Doctor Of Audiology Study-Abroad And Service Learning, Chelsea Tynes, Antony Joseph

AuD Capstone Projects - Communication Sciences and Disorders

Access to audiology care is essential, as unmanaged hearing loss carries significant communicative, social, and health consequences. Across many Caribbean nations, access to audiologic care remains limited, with substantial variation in workforce, diagnostic services, hearing-health infrastructure, and system readiness. The Caribbean Audiology Research Project (CARP), established by the Hearing Loss Prevention Laboratory, characterized hearing-health capacity across eight Caribbean countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and The Bahamas. Publicly available data on the audiology workforce, healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic and rehabilitative services, public-health programs, demographic indicators, and logistical factors were …

Considerations For Research About 2-K A Brief Informed By What Will It Take To Fulfill The Promise Of 2-K?, Sara Amadon, Cristina Medellin-Paz, Lindsey Bravo

Straus Institute for Thriving Children & Families

New York City’s expansion of publicly funded child care for two-year-olds (2-K) presents a unique opportunity to study how a large urban system can build a sustainable, equitable, and developmentally appropriate system for serving young children and their families. As one of the nation's first large-scale public investments in early care and education for two-year-olds, 2-K offers an unprecedented opportunity to conduct research to inform ongoing implementation and program expansion. The knowledge generated from research can support policymakers and practitioners in New York City and other communities seeking to expand access to early care and education.

Regulating Police Robots, Farhang Heydari, Max Isaacs, Barry Friedman Oct 2026

Regulating Police Robots, Farhang Heydari, Max Isaacs, Barry Friedman

Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications

Once considered a mere novelty, ground robots and aerial drones are quickly becoming a mainstream policing tool. Autonomous police robots, equipped with a panoply of cameras and sensors, have been sent into parks, schools, and train stations. Agencies across the country are piloting “Drone as First Responder” programs, which automatically dispatch drones in response to 911 calls. Police have used robots to disorient, immobilize, and use force against suspects.

Police robots may provide public safety benefits, but they may also carry real risks. The widespread adoption of highly mobile robots equipped with cameras, sensors, and analytics will only hasten the …

Mora Valley Of The Mills 2026: A Documentary Report History Of The Milling Industry And Cultural Heritage Preservation, Jose A. Rivera Oct 2026

Mora Valley Of The Mills 2026: A Documentary Report History Of The Milling Industry And Cultural Heritage Preservation, Jose A. Rivera

Faculty Publications

The flour mills along the upper Mora River constitute the largest number of still standing commercial mills in the State of New Mexico, namely the Cleveland Roller Mill, the St. Vrain Mill, the Gordon-Sánchez Mill, and the La Cueva Mill at the Houser Raspberry Ranch. Notably, all four mills are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. During their heyday, 1964-1920, Mora County was seen as the “breadbasket of New Mexico” due to its bountiful supply of cereal and cool climate vegetables. Local acequia farmers supplied the mills with the input of wheat, corn and other grains that led …

Characterizing And Repairing Obsolete Android Gui Tests Under Ui Evolution, Shiwen Song, Yiheng Xiong, Wenbo Guo, Manqi Sun, Jiaolong Kong, Xiaofei Xie

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Graphical user interface (GUI) tests are widely used in regression testing of mobile applications (apps) tovalidate app behavior from the user’s perspective. However, frequent app evolution, such as UI redesignsand feature updates, often renders existing GUI tests obsolete, even when underlying functionality remainsunchanged. Automatically repairing such tests is critical for maintaining test suites and reducing substantialmanual effort. Despite the practical importance, there is still a lack of a systematic understanding of thecharacteristics of obsolete GUI tests and a publicly available benchmark to support their study. To fill thisgap, we construct a benchmark comprising 736 obsolete GUI tests collected from 36 …

Mg-Fuzz: Model-Guided Fuzzing For Unsafe Scenario Discovery In Autonomous Driving Systems, Yulong Lyu, Ruiqi Hong, Jiawan Wang, Jun Sun, Lei Bu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

As autonomous driving systems (ADS) are increasingly deployed in real-world environments, discovering diverse unsafe driving scenarios remains a fundamental yet difficult problem. Existing scenario generation and testing approaches often rely on black-box exploration or externally-observed heuristic feedback, which struggle to effectively guide the search toward high-risk scenarios induced by complex decision-making behaviors. A key difficulty stems from the fact that unsafe behaviors in ADS often arise from internal decision-making logic, which can induce structured and discontinuous responses that are hard to effectively explore using purely black-box guidance. Consequently, current tools tend to repeatedly discover a narrow set of similar unsafe …
