PCOM Scholarly Works

The EP2 receptor has emerged as a therapeutic target with exacerbating role in disease pathology for a variety of peripheral and central nervous system disorders. We and others have recently demonstrated beneficial effects of EP2 antagonists in preclinical models of neuroinflammation and peripheral inflammation. However, it was earlier reported that mice with global EP2 knockout (KO) display adverse phenotypes on fertility and blood pressure. Other studies indicated that EP2 activation with an agonist has a beneficial effect of healing fractured bone in animal models. These results impeded the development of EP2 antagonists, and EP2 antagonism as therapeutic strategy. To determine …

Rebuilding The Federal Circuit Courts, Merritt E. Mcalister Mar 2022

Rebuilding The Federal Circuit Courts, Merritt E. Mcalister

UF Law Faculty Publications

The conversation about Supreme Court reform—as important as it is—has obscured another, equally important conversation: the need for lower federal court reform. The U.S. Courts of Appeals have not seen their ranks grow in over three decades. Even then, those additions were stopgap measures built on an appellate triage system that had outsourced much of its work to nonjudicial decision-makers (central judicial staff and law clerks). Those changes born of necessity have now become core features of the federal appellate system, which distributes judicial resources—including oral argument and judicial scrutiny—to a select few. This Article begins to reimagine the courts …

Exploring Student Teacher's Lived Experiences With Supervisor Feedback, Kristin M. Rich

Doctor of Education (EdD)

Despite receiving feedback from a university supervisor, student teachers often do not show responsiveness to that feedback. This phenomenological study examined the lived experiences of student teachers receiving feedback from their supervisors during a post-observation conference by using a framework of three conditions for learner improvement. The study aimed to enhance what student teachers valued, what they understood, and how they responded to their supervisors’ feedback. What they shared highlighted two significant factors influencing their responsiveness to feedback: (1) a knowledge of their learners and (2) a desire to be treated as professionals. These two factors determined whether they applied …

Clustering With Density Based Initialization And Bhattacharyya Based Merging, Erdem Köse, Ali̇ Köksal Hocaoğlu Mar 2022

Clustering With Density Based Initialization And Bhattacharyya Based Merging, Erdem Köse, Ali̇ Köksal Hocaoğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Centroid based clustering approaches, such as k-means, are relatively fast but inaccurate for arbitrary shape clusters. Fuzzy c-means with Mahalanobis distance can accurately identify clusters if data set can be modelled by a mixture of Gaussian distributions. However, they require number of clusters apriori and a bad initialization can cause poor results. Density based clustering methods, such as DBSCAN, overcome these disadvantages. However, they may perform poorly when the dataset is imbalanced. This paper proposes a clustering method, named clustering with density initialization and Bhattacharyya based merging based on the fuzzy clustering. The initialization is carried out by density estimation …
