Necessity Or Preference? Navigating The Role Of Physical Presence In The Post-Pandemic Workplace, Shelby Wray
Necessity Or Preference? Navigating The Role Of Physical Presence In The Post-Pandemic Workplace, Shelby Wray
Cardozo Law Review
The COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally altered how society conceptualizes the spatial boundaries of the workplace, proving that businesses can operate effectively without requiring employees’ physical presence. As remote work gained legitimacy during the pandemic, longstanding assumptions about where jobs can be performed—and where legal protections apply—have come into question. In particular, the scope of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has become increasingly hazy, especially regarding when the ADA is triggered outside of the physical workplace.
Currently, there is a circuit split as to whether employees with disabilities are entitled to ADA protections for their commute to work. This Note addresses …

An Explainable Transformer-Based Model For Phishing Email Detection: A Large Language Model Approach, Mohammad Amaz Uddin, Md Mahiuddin, Iqbal H. Sarker
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Phishing email is a serious cyber threat that tries to deceive users by sending false emails with the intention of stealing confidential information or causing financial harm. Attackers, often posing as trustworthy entities, exploit technological advancements and sophistication to make the detection and prevention of phishing more challenging. Despite extensive academic research, phishing detection remains an ongoing and formidable challenge in the cybersecurity landscape. In this research paper, we present a fine-tuned transformer-based masked language model, RoBERTa (Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach), for phishing email detection. In the detection process, we employ a phishing email dataset and apply the preprocessing …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) are being developed to meet mechanical, thermal and chemical requirements that exceed what current super-alloys can withstand. This review explains how composition design, processing routes and the resulting microstructures now combine to realize that potential. We first link phase selection in BCC-, FCC- and dual-phase RHEAs to atomic-size mismatch, mixing enthalpy and valence-electron concentration, and compare manufacturing paths ranging from arc melting to powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing and vapor deposition, showing how each reshapes grain structure and defect chemistry to improve high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance and irradiation tolerance. Computation-led tools—density-functional theory, calculation of phase diagrams and …

Projects operate within institutional environments that shape their structures, practices, and legitimacy. At the same time, projects may contribute to institutional stabilization, adaptation, or incremental change. A growing body of research has applied institutional theory to examine these interactions; however, the literature remains dispersed across various contexts and levels of analysis, thereby limiting a cumulative understanding of how institutional and project dynamics are interconnected. This paper undertakes an integrative review of 119 publications that apply organizational institutional theory in project management studies. The findings build upon earlier research to consolidate this body of work and clarify how institutional forces shape …

Permeability characterizes the capacity of porous formations to conduct fluids, thereby governing the performance of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), hydrocarbon extraction, and subsurface energy storage. A reliable assessment of rock permeability is therefore essential for these applications. Direct estimation of permeability from low-resolution CT images of large rock samples offers a rapid approach to obtain permeability data. However, the limited resolution fails to capture detailed pore-scale structural features, resulting in low prediction accuracy. To address this limitation, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based upscaling method that integrates high-precision pore-scale permeability information into core-scale, low-resolution CT images. In …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The field of computer science faces a significant challenge in meeting the growing demand for skilled graduates, despite increasing interest in CS education. A persistent gap between supply and demand is partly attributed to high attrition rates of 30-40% (or higher) in introductory CS courses (CS1 and CS2). While various interventions have been proposed, the scalable assessment of students’ understanding of programming concepts remains a critical challenge, particularly in the context of code comprehension exercises. This dissertation addresses the challenge of automated assessment in code comprehension by developing and evaluating novel approaches for analyzing students’ self-explanations of program code. We …

Infectious diseases harm societies through disease-induced morbidity, mortality, loss of productivity, and inequality. Thus, controlling and preventing them is critical for public health and societal well-being. However, societies can hinder efforts to control the spread of diseases by failing to adhere to public health recommendations, such as through vaccine hesitancy. Various disease-transmission models have been utilized to help policymakers respond to (re)emerging outbreaks. The usefulness of such models in assessing the effectiveness of public health policies is significantly dependent on human behavior. This paper introduces a new model of parental behavior toward a new childhood immunization. The model incorporates societal …

Realizing the economic and societal benefits of autonomous vehicles (AVs) hinges on widespread public acceptance. However, existing research offers limited insights into two key behavioral factors shaping AV acceptance, namely, perceived AV safety concern and travel behavior, the latter reflecting how heterogenous mobility patterns influence the AV acceptance. These factors are often treated as exogenous, limiting insight into their true behavioral interdependencies with AV acceptance and their distinct behavioral roots. This study addresses these gaps by introducing a recursive trivariate econometric model that jointly estimates AV acceptance, perceived safety concern, and current travel behavior (proxied by annual vehicle-miles traveled or …

Insufficient fruit set and excessive fruit drop are key challenges faced within the global mango (Mangifera indica L.) industry, affecting yield consistency and grower’s income as well as adversely impacting global mango trade. Rising temperature regimes and extreme weather events at critical stages of fruit set and development are among the primary driving factors behind these extremely devastating issues in the mango industry. Scientific interventions aimed at regulating fruit set and drop have become increasingly important. Inadequate pollination and fertilisation can also cause poor fruit set, whilst self-incompatibility and stenospermocarpy can cause fruit drop in mango. Mango fruit set and …

This study aimed to analyze the creative experiences of early childhood pre-service teachers enrolled in a semester-long course designed to enhance their creative potential through experiential projects. Using a qualitative research design, this study explored the subjective experiences of 16 pre-service teachers, aged 21 to 23-years-old, who participated in a 14-week course focused on integrating creativity into early childhood education. Data were collected through weekly reflections, project reports, and multimedia documentation, capturing each pre-service teacher's creative journey. The findings revealed four key themes which characterized the pre-service teachers’ creative experiences: (1) learning a new skill, (2) expressing creativity and experiencing …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Generative AI (GenAI) is increasingly integrated into users’ daily work as a collaborative partner. Drawing on the symbiotic agency theory, this study investigates the quality of human-GenAI collaboration using a mixed-methods approach, including qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. Study 1 identified three dimensions of human-GenAI collaboration quality that comprise outcome quality, comfort, and efficiency; and six driving factors which can be categorized under human agency (domain knowledge, desire for control, and domestication ability), and GenAI agency (communication ability, working memory, and long-term memory). Study 2 applied fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to explore configurations of the driving factors that lead …

Root intrusion control in sewer pipelines often relies on chemical herbicides, yet their unintended impacts on downstream biological treatment remain underexplored. This study investigated the effects of Sanafoam Vaporooter II (SVII) on carbon removal and nitrification in activated sludge reactors (ASRs) under long-term operation. Two parallel bench-scale ASRs were installed and operated at Subiaco municipal wastewater treatment plant in Perth, Western Australia: one was exposed to incremental SVII concentrations (1–3000 mg/L), while the other served as an unamended control. Stoichiometric analysis revealed stable organic matter removal across all SVII doses. In contrast, nitrification decreased progressively at concentrations exceeding 128 mg/L. …

Gendered Organising: Decolonial Feminist Epistemologies From Marginalised Women Textile Traders In Southwest Nigeria, Irenitemi Gbemisola Abolade
Doctoral
For decades, discourse has been constructed for and about Nigerian women, rather than in dialogue with them, despite their rich worldview rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems. Empirical studies have consistently focused on Europe and America as sources of knowledge production, while treating the Global South as the object of knowledge. As a result, little is known about how work and organising/organisation are done, particularly in the informal economy. This study, Gendered Organising: Decolonial Feminist Epistemologies from marginalised women, introduced us to the lived experiences of women textile traders in Southwest Nigeria. It explores how these women's gendered organising practices contribute …

A Multi-Dimensional Analysis Of Household Food Waste In The Republic Of Ireland: Drivers, Patterns, And Impacts, Courage Yaw Krah
Doctoral
Despite growing research on consumer food waste, existing efforts have fallen short of achieving meaningful reductions. This challenge has primarily been attributed to the complex behavioural and demographic diversity within populations, reflected in varying practices of food acquisition, storage, preparation, and disposal. In addition, there is a limited understanding of the broader impacts of discarded food, particularly the environmental, economic, and nutritional losses. This results in an oversimplified view of HFW and leads to less effective intervention strategies. An integrated assessment that incorporates environmental, nutritional, and economic consequences can provide a more holistic representation of the problem and support the …

The demand for advanced photonic technologies to enhance augmented reality (AR) devices has led to a significant interest in new optical materials suitable for operation in sometimes challenging environmental conditions, such as elevated temperatures levels. Holographic optical lenses (HOLs), fabricated using holographic recording, offer several advantages over traditional refractive lenses, including greater versatility, lower cost, lower weight, and increased adaptability. In this study, we investigated the optical and thermal performance of HOLs recorded on four different photosensitive materials: Bayfol HX200, Bayfol HX120, a PVA/acrylamide-based photopolymer (AA/PVA), and a photopolymerisable hybrid sol–gel (PHSG). The lenses were exposed to thermal cycles 20 …
