Disaster Management-Based Internet Of Things Using Wireless Sensor Networks, Ali Abed, Anas Hussien, Lara Falaha

Engineering and Technology Journal

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have become essential in the monitoring and managing environmental disasters, providing real-time data collection and transmission functionalities. Their application is especially crucial in flood-prone areas, where prompt detection and action can reduce substantial human, economic, and infrastructural losses. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) comprise spatially distributed sensors that monitor environmental parameters, including water levels, temperature, and humidity, relaying data to a centralized system for analysis and response. This paper proposes a flood monitoring system based on a wireless sensor network, emphasizing installing water-level sensors in dam basements.  The system employs the ZigBee communication protocol to provide low-power, …

A Review Of Smart Actuation Technologies In Modern Mechatronic Systems, Ivan Gorial Mar 2026

A Review Of Smart Actuation Technologies In Modern Mechatronic Systems, Ivan Gorial

Engineering and Technology Journal

Smart actuation has transformed mechatronics over the past six years by harnessing materials that turn heat, electricity, magnetism, or light into finely tuned motion. Our survey of developments from 2019 to 2025 reveals clear trade-offs: electro-active polymers can stretch beyond 200% but operate at roughly 30% efficiency, whereas piezoelectric devices achieve over 95% efficiency with displacements under 0.1%. Ionic polymer–metal composites and magnetorheological actuators strike the best balance for precision work, delivering about 50% stroke at 60% efficiency. Real-world examples show that packing tiny shape-memory alloy bundles into soft exosuits grants sub-millimeter accuracy without sacrificing comfort, and that materials capable …

In contrast, the PID controller manages the angular velocities of the wheels. The mobile robot has been designed and constructed with two holders to facilitate the transportation of logistical items and constrain the weight to the center of the …

An Optimal Area Power System-Based Automatic Load Frequency Control Using A 1-D Lookup Table Method, Ekhlas Thajeel

Engineering and Technology Journal

Automatic load frequency control (ALFC) is an important part of auxiliary services in power systems. To sustain system accuracy and ensure the safety of power systems, ALFC system design is a vital issue. Power system networks must quickly address the imbalance between generation and demand, or else the power line frequency will depart from its nominal value. However, performance might be disappointing, and frequency deviation can occur when a substantial disturbance occurs, such as when a rapid, significant load change happens. In particular, an enormous number one- and two-dimensional lookup table is used; in this study, the 1-D Lookup Table …

The Effective Of The Passive And Active Techniques On The Vibration Control System, Firas Jasim, Mohammed Mohammed, Hatam Kadhom

Engineering and Technology Journal

The interaction between structures and fluid flow in a direction perpendicular to the body can induce vibrations in the structure, a phenomenon known as vortex-induced vibration (VIV). This phenomenon may lead to structural failure due to resonance, which occurs when the natural frequency of the structure matches the vortex shedding frequency. Therefore, it is essential to employ vibration control devices to address the resulting high-amplitude instabilities. In this study, a subsonic wind tunnel with open-circuit specifications was constructed. This open-type wind tunnel generates airflow at varying velocities through the test section. To control vibrations around the cylindrical pipe, an Open-Loop …

Performance Enhancement Of Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors: A Review, Shrooq Ali, Jalal Jalil, Ahlam Shuraiji

Engineering and Technology Journal

Solar thermal energy is essential for industrial and home applications, such as solar drying, space heating, water heating, and water desalination. Solar collectors are essential elements in these systems, as they transform solar irradiance into thermal energy. Evacuated heat pipes (EHPs) have emerged as efficient thermal transfer devices among sophisticated solar thermal technologies, capable of handling heat with low losses. These pipes function by employing a vacuum-sealed environment that markedly diminishes thermal resistance and convective heat loss. The heat transfer process is facilitated by the phase change of a working fluid, which evaporates at the heat source and condenses at …

The inputs of this geostatistical model are the vegetation index and the humidity index extracted from Landsat 8, the rainfall from CHIRPS, and the LULC from ESA. The correlation between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), and …
