Nurse Resident Job Satisfaction With A Formal Mentorship Program, Jessica Hoehne

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Purpose: Job satisfaction is a predictor of nursing turnover and intent to stay. New nurses are especially vulnerable to turnover during their first year creating a significant barrier to building the nursing workforce. Research shows reasons contributing to the high attrition rates of new nurses include a lack of confidence, an inability to cope with work-related stress and a decreased sense of belonging. Several studies have shown that mentorship promotes personal and professional development, increases learning, and builds confidence. The goal of implementing a mentorship program is to create a culture of support for nurse residents resulting in increased job …

Baccalaureate Nursing Students Identify Positive And Negative Belongingness Behaviors In Clinical Practice: Lessons For Clinicians, Missy Ofe Fleck, Cathrin L. Carithers, Lynnette Leeseberg Stamler, Leeza A. Struwe Mar 2026

Baccalaureate Nursing Students Identify Positive And Negative Belongingness Behaviors In Clinical Practice: Lessons For Clinicians, Missy Ofe Fleck, Cathrin L. Carithers, Lynnette Leeseberg Stamler, Leeza A. Struwe

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Creating inclusive clinical learning environments in which students thrive is a priority in nursing education and practice to foster belongingness (Metzger & Taggert, 2020), address person-centered care needs (Marjadi et al., 2023), and prepare a diverse nursing workforce (Charania & Patel, 2022). Relationships nurtured among health care team members and nursing students provide the fundamental social context for acceptance and efficacious learning (Levett-Jones et al., 2007). Levett-Jones and Lathlean (2008) identified belongingness as a “deeply personal and contextually mediated experience that evolves in response to the degree to which an individual feels (a) secure, accepted, included, valued, and respected by …

Mostly Haunted: A Socio-Spatial Analysis Of Ghost Tourism In England And Wales, Tom Clark, Joseph O. Baker, Christoper D. Bader

Sociology Faculty Articles and Research

There is now a well-established literature on ghost tourism. However, much of this work examines aspects associated with the demand side of the industry, or the motivations and experiences of consumers. There are currently no studies that have sought to explore the supply of ghost tourism and the spatial, social, and economic relationships that exist between these places. Using Lower Tier Local Authorities (LTLAs) in England and Wales as the units of analysis, this study draws on a bespoke range of local government and Census data to examine the prevalence of ghost tourism and explore how these sites are differentiated …

Robots, Ledgers, And Revpar: A Blockchain-Enabled Ai–Robotics Conceptual Model For Sustainable Hotel Revenue And Asset Management, Leonard A. Jackson Mar 2026

Robots, Ledgers, And Revpar: A Blockchain-Enabled Ai–Robotics Conceptual Model For Sustainable Hotel Revenue And Asset Management, Leonard A. Jackson

Faculty Articles

Introduction: Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly reshaping hospitality by automating frontline and back-of-house processes, augmenting service encounters, and expanding the analytical scope of revenue management. Yet, existing research remains fragmented: service-robot studies largely emphasize adoption and human–robot interaction, while revenue-management research prioritizes pricing and distribution, sustainability research focuses on environmental practices, and hotel real-estate scholarship foregrounds governance and asset value. Meanwhile, blockchain technologies—through distributed ledgers, smart contracts, digital identity, and tokenization—offer a complementary trust and value-transfer layer that can address coordination and verification problems across hotel ecosystems (e.g., data sharing, sustainability claims, and owner–operator contracting).

Methods: Drawing on …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy (ICI) with nivolumab+ipilimumab is a first-line (1L) standard for metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), yet outcomes remain heterogeneous. Increasing evidence suggests that host factors influence the tumor microenvironment and response to ICI. Although higher body mass index (BMI) has been associated with improved outcomes in several malignancies, BMI is an imprecise surrogate for underlying adipose and muscle compartments. We evaluated the association between body composition and outcomes with 1L nivolumab+ipilimumab in metastatic ccRCC.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with mccRCC treated with 1L nivolumab+ipilimumab at MD Anderson Cancer Center between June 2015 and …

Cancer occurs in ∼1 per 1000 pregnancies; thousands of patients may require radiation procedures for diagnosis and treatment each year in the United States alone. This rare but high-risk scenario, coupled with fear of radiation, has created ambiguity in the ideal management of pregnant patients. Without a comprehensive guide for the use of radiation in imaging and treatment for pregnant cancer patients, it is difficult for providers to offer optimal patient-centered care without introducing disparities. The goal of this paper is to provide guidance on the use of radiation for screening, diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer, while highlighting gaps …

Place And Time: Interrogating The Spatial And Temporal Patterns Of Social Vulnerability In Tennessee, Max Bangham Dixon Mar 2026

Place And Time: Interrogating The Spatial And Temporal Patterns Of Social Vulnerability In Tennessee, Max Bangham Dixon

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Social vulnerability is essential for research and as a framework in disaster management. Despite a common understanding that social vulnerability is spatially and temporally variable, the ways in which it is variable are not well understood. This research examines the dynamic nature of social vulnerability through two indices (SoVI and SVI) at a census tract-level using Fuzzy-C Means clustering and spatial analyses. Drivers of vulnerability are examined to understand what influences place-based vulnerability and discover how those drivers vary across space. Findings suggest that Fuzzy-C Means clustering is effective in creating interpretable groups of vulnerability indicators that are consistent with …

Arbitrability Of Government Contracts Disputes Between State Sovereignty And Investors’ Guarantees: A Comparative Study, Arem Sayed Aboelazm, Fady Tawakol, Mohammad Rababa

All Works

This paper examines the balance between state sovereignty and the subordination of states to non-national jurisdictions. It explores jurisprudential and legal perspectives on arbitration in state contracts and highlights its implications for the legal framework governing such contracts (Alanzi, 2021a; Abbas, 2020). The analysis focuses on Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), assessing the legitimacy of arbitration in state contracts within both jurisdictions. A descriptive-analytical method is applied to investigate the debates among public law scholars regarding the admissibility of arbitration in disputes involving state contracts, as well as the arguments underpinning their positions. In parallel, a comparative analytical …

Objective.Accurate lung function assessment is essential for diagnosing and managing diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, pulmonary emboli, and lung cancer. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) provides valuable 3D functional imaging of ventilation and perfusion, but is limited by low spatial resolution, availability, additional radiation, and cost. Alternative methods, including CT-based perfusion (CT-P) and deep learning models, require large datasets to validate results that are often scarce. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) offer rapid and noninvasive global lung function measures and are clinically widely used. While ventilation correlates well with PFTs, perfusion imaging presents challenges due to complex blood flow and …

Dynamic Deep Prompt Optimization For Defending Against Jailbreak Attacks On Llms, Doniyorkhon Obidov, Honggang Yu, Xiaolong Guo, Kaichen Yang

Michigan Tech Publications

Large Language Models (LLMs) demonstrate impressive capabilities across many applications but remain vulnerable to jailbreak attacks, which elicit harmful or unintended content. While model fine-tuning is an option for safety alignment, it is costly and prone to catastrophic forgetting. Prompt optimization has emerged as a promising alternative, yet existing prompt-based defenses typically rely on static modifications (e.g., fixed prefixes or suffixes) that cannot adapt to diverse and evolving attacks.

We propose Dynamic Deep Prompt Optimization (DDPO), the first jailbreak defense based on deep prompt optimization. DDPO uses the target LLM’s own intermediate layers as feature extractors to dynamically generate defensive …

Molecular profiling has identified 3 groups of meningiomas, with MenG C tumors exhibiting the vast majority of recurrences. Efforts to find effective treatments for recurrent meningiomas have remained elusive. Higher WHO-grade meningiomas have exhibited greater Programmed Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression through various methods, but the prognostic value of PD-L1 expression has not been described in the context of molecular profiling. Additionally, trials investigating PD-1/PD-L1-targeted immunotherapies have produced disappointing results. Here, we find that PD-L1 positivity, while prevalent in MenG C tumors, does not predict recurrence in the benign MenG A and B tumors. PD-L1 positivity also occurs independently of …
