Enhancing Wind Tunnel Computational Simulations Of Finite Element Analysis Using Machine Learning-Based Algorithms, Luttfi Al-Haddad, Alaa Jaber, Latif Ibraheem, Sinan Al-Haddad, Naseem Ibrahim, Fawaz Abdulwahed

Engineering and Technology Journal

Wind tunnels are essential for examining aircraft model aerodynamics, accurately simulating real-world conditions, and enhancing design and performance evaluations. This study introduces a novel technique to improve the time and accuracy of stress distribution forecasts in wind tunnel simulations. This method combines Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with two regression models: Support Vector Machine (SVM) and k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN). The investigation begins with a thorough analysis of ANSYS fluent flow data, which reveals intricate fluid dynamics details within the wind tunnel. A comparative analysis of stress projections, supplemented by Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) metric, demonstrates the proposed methodology’s viability. High …

Application Of Discrete Wavelet Transform For Condition Monitoring And Fault Detection In Wind Turbine Blades: An Experimental Study, Ahmed Ogaili, Mohsin Hamzah, Alaa Jaber, Ehsan Ghane

Engineering and Technology Journal

Effective structural monitoring maximizes efficiency in wind turbines, a crucial renewable energy asset. Using advanced condition monitoring techniques is crucial for reliability. This experiment shows how to use DWT and FFT for wind turbine blade fault detection. DWT allowed for multiresolution analysis of vibration signals from a healthy and eroded lab-scale turbine blade under controlled wind speeds. A 5-level DWT decomposition identified frequency sub-bands with localized fault information. The FFT post-processing of level 5 approximation coefficients revealed precise modal frequency shifts between blade states. The healthy blade showed a dominant 16 Hz mode that matched operational dynamics. Erosion caused a …

Corrugation ratios (e/dh) of 0.1 and 0.13, pitch (p) of 10, 20, and 30mm, and two types (x/d) …

An Analytical Solution To Buckling Of Thick Beams Based On A Cubic Polynomial Shear Deformation Beam Theory, Charles Ike Mar 2026

An Analytical Solution To Buckling Of Thick Beams Based On A Cubic Polynomial Shear Deformation Beam Theory, Charles Ike

Engineering and Technology Journal

This paper presents analytical solutions for the buckling of thick beams. The Bernoulli-Euler beam theory (BEBT) overestimates their critical buckling load. This paper has derived a cubic polynomial shear deformation beam buckling theory (CPSDBBT) from first principles using the Euler-Lagrange differential equation (ELDE). It develops closed-form solutions to differential equations using the finite sine transform method. The formulation considers transverse shear deformation and satisfies the transverse shear stress-free boundary conditions. The governing equation is developed from the energy functional, Õ, by applying the ELDE. The domain equation is obtained as an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The finite sine transformation of …

Engineering and Technology Journal

The present study utilizes the commercial software ANSYS-Fluent to explore the influence of the geometry of thick S- S-series airfoil on the near-wake region. Four different S-series airfoils, namely S809, S811, S814, and S818, were investigated at a wide range of angles of attack, which were varied from 0 degrees to 20 degrees with an increment of 2 degrees and at a Reynolds number based on chord length Re = 1x106. Analysis of the resultant data revealed that the aerodynamic performance of the S811 and S818 airfoils superseded that of the S809 and S814 airfoils. To illustrate, at the critical …

Additionally, ultimate …

Single Variable Thick Plate Buckling Problems Using Double Finite Sine Transform Method, Charles Ike Mar 2026

Single Variable Thick Plate Buckling Problems Using Double Finite Sine Transform Method, Charles Ike

Engineering and Technology Journal

This paper derives buckling solutions for single variable thick plate buckling problems using the double finite sine transform method (DFSTM). The problem governing partial differential equation (GPDE), originally formulated by Shimpi and others, uses a refined plate theory (RPT) and accounts for transverse shear deformations, rendering it applicable to thick plates. The thick plate is simply supported and subjected to (i) uniform uniaxial compressive load in the x direction. (ii) uniform biaxial compressive load in the x and y axes. The DFSTM was applied to the GPDE, and the problem transformed into an algebraic equation, which was simpler in this …

A Static And Dynamic Analysis Of A High-Speed Turbo Machine Foundation, Ameer Ahmed, Mohammed Fattah, Makki Mohsen

Engineering and Technology Journal

The foundation plays a significant role in safe and efficient turbo machinery operation. Turbomachinery generates harmonic load on the foundation due to its high-speed rotating motion, which causes vibration in the machinery foundation. Any increase in machine vibration reduces the machine's performance. In studying engineering problems, using numerical programs helps get a well-designed foundation. Before conducting a parametric study, the program used shall be validated and/or verified by conducting a series of analyses to ensure that the program output represents the reference studied cases well. In many cases, the real problem is simplified by assuming that the machine's loads are …

A Proposed New Mix Proportioning Method For Fly Ash-Based Geopolymer Concrete, Mazin Alhifadhi, Tareq Al-Attar, Qais Hasan

Engineering and Technology Journal

Global warming on planet Earth results from the high emission of greenhouse gases, especially CO2. The Portland cement industry releases high amounts of CO2 and is responsible for about 5-8% of total emissions. Efforts have been made to look for alternative cementless binders to mitigate the impact on the environment. Geopolymers are one of the highlighted alternatives and can be obtained from the reaction of any aluminosilicate material with an alkaline solution. Aluminosilicate materials are found in byproduct materials such as fly ash. Geopolymer concrete is a promising environmentally friendly option. However, previous conventional mix proportioning methods for fly ash-based …

All mixtures incorporate 10% silica fume (SF) as a cement replacement by weight. Results reveal decreased workability, fresh density, compressive, and splitting tensile strength with increasing rubber replacement proportions. However, utilizing tire rubber aggregate …

The problem is governed by a fourth-order partial differential equation (PDE) and boundary conditions dependent on the end restraints. The governing PDE is transformed into an algebraic eigenvalue problem for harmonic vibrations and harmonic response. Analytical solutions of the governing equations are difficult and complex. Hence, other …

The beam is assumed to be homogeneous and prismatic, and the vibration is assumed to be harmonic. As a result, the field equation becomes a fourth-order homogeneous ordinary differential equation (ODE). The Elzaki transform method is chosen in this study due to its proven ability to solve ODEs, …

Engineering and Technology Journal

Image encryption is a crucial area for researchers in information security, which protects digital images from unauthorized access. This paper proposes a novel image encryption scheme based on the multi-chaotic system. This paper is about encrypting color images based on a 2D Henon map and a 3D Lorenz map. We used the 2D Henon map equation to generate a new S-Box, thus creating a solid cipher that is difficult to break (for the confusion operation). We then generate keys from the 3D Lorenz map for the shifting process (for diffusion operation). A comparative analysis and the simulation test show that …
