Leveraging Accounting Analytics To Enhance Payroll Accuracy And Fraud Detection In U.S. Public Sector Institutions: A Case Study Approach, Regina Debrah

Beacom School of Business Student Publications

This study explores how accounting analytics can be leveraged to enhance payroll accuracy and improve fraud detection in U.S. public-sector institutions, addressing persistent irregularities amid rising demands for fiscal transparency. The research employs a qualitative design with secondary sources including academic literature, reports, and case studies. The literature identifies successful analytics implementation, such as Treasury OPI’s machine learning for data integration for unemployment claims. These precedents demonstrate direct transferability to payroll’s high volume and rules-based structure. Findings show that analytics significantly reduce improper payments through real-time screening, data integration, and risk prioritization when embedded in workflows. The findings also show …

Digital Financial Innovation, Currency Outside Banking System, And Inflationary Rate In Nigeria: Implications For Exchange Rate Management, Philip Ifeakachukwu Nwosa

Bullion

Digital financial innovation has expanded globally, supporting cashless systems and reducing currency outside banks and inflation in advanced economies. In Nigeria, however, rising use of digital payment platforms has coincided with increasing inflation and higher cash in circulation. This study explores the relationship among digital financial innovation, currency outside the banking system, and inflation from 2009 to 2024, while assessing implications for exchange rate management. Findings show that despite rapid digital payment growth, both inflation and cash outside banks remain elevated, creating challenges for effective exchange rate stability. The study adopts a descriptive research design to examine the relationship among …

Intergovernmental Relations, Market-Preserving Federalism, And Digital Governance In Nigeria, Dhikru Adewale Yagboyaju, Jeremiah Oluwadara Omotayo Mar 2026

Intergovernmental Relations, Market-Preserving Federalism, And Digital Governance In Nigeria, Dhikru Adewale Yagboyaju, Jeremiah Oluwadara Omotayo

Bullion

This paper analyses intergovernmental fiscal relations in Nigeria using Barry Weingast’s theory of market-preserving federalism. It argues that excessive fiscal centralisation, weak subnational autonomy, and recurring disputes over revenue allocation, such as those involving value-added tax and oil derivation, undermine inclusive economic development. Using qualitative analysis of policy documents, legal frameworks, and audit reports, the study finds that embedding digital governance within a market-preserving federal framework could enhance subnational revenue generation, fiscal transparency, and competitive horizontal federalism.

The Fall Of Chevron: What It Means For Irs Authority And Tax Law, Reagan Honn Mar 2026

The Fall Of Chevron: What It Means For Irs Authority And Tax Law, Reagan Honn

Southern Illinois University Law Journal

This Note examines the collapse of Chevron deference and its profound implications for federal tax law, where complexity and ambiguity are the rule rather than the exception. For decades, Chevron allowed courts to defer to the Internal Revenue Service’s reasonable interpretations of ambiguous statutes, promoting uniformity, predictability, and administrability across the tax system. In Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the U.S. Supreme Court dismantled that framework, shifting interpretive authority decisively to the judiciary. This Note argues that the loss of Chevron destabilizes tax administration by inviting inconsistent judicial interpretations, increasing taxpayer challenges, and undermining reliance on agency guidance. It further …

Held Hostage By High Prices: How The Pharmacy System Makes You Pay More, Riley Harris

Southern Illinois University Law Journal

This Note examines how current regulatory policies and practices of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) have led to increased prescription drug costs and diminished patient access to medications. Notably, Schmidtknecht v. OptumRx Inc. illustrates the real-world consequences of current PBM regulation, which allows them to increase medication prices without warning by controlling which pharmacies and insurance plans will cover certain prescription drugs. The Note analyzes existing federal regulations under the Civil Monetary Penalties Law (CMPL), the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act (2018), and the Know the Lowest Price Act of 2018, which seek to increase drug pricing transparency and …

Staff Education To Improve Mental Health Access For Underserved Populations Through Telehealth, Kafayat Olabisi Oluwole Mar 2026

Staff Education To Improve Mental Health Access For Underserved Populations Through Telehealth, Kafayat Olabisi Oluwole

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education doctoral project evaluated whether structured telehealth training improves psychiatric nurses’ knowledge in delivering care to underserved populations. A gap in practice was identified, as many psychiatric nurses lacked formal training in providing culturally competent and effective virtual mental health services. Guided by the ADDIE model and the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice framework, a structured educational intervention was implemented with 25 psychiatric nurses. Participants completed pre- and posttests to assess knowledge gained. Results demonstrated an increase in mean scores from 62.8% to 77.4%, reflecting a 14.6% improvement. A paired t test indicated statistical significance (p < .05), confirming the effectiveness of the intervention. These findings suggest that targeted telehealth education enhances psychiatric nurses’ readiness to deliver high-quality, culturally responsive care. This project supports positive social change by improving access to equitable mental health services for underserved populations.

Beyond The Pipeline: First-Generation College Students’ Community Cultural Wealth And Stem Degree Pathways, Douglas Havard, Zahra Gholami, Jue Wu, Danette Y. Martinez, A. J. Balatico, Lara Perez-Felkner

Education Faculty Articles and Research

This study examines how first-generation college students (FGCS) and continuing-generation college students navigate STEM pathways by modeling four sequential milestones in the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09): high school graduation, college enrollment, STEM major selection, and STEM degree completion. Guided by Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth framework, we use survey-weighted sequential logistic regression to estimate stage-specific associations between academic preparation, psychosocial resources, and institutional context, conditional on prior attainment. Results reveal distinct generational patterns of STEM progression. For FGCS, rigorous high school mathematics preparation exerts a powerful influence on high school completion, while later-developing math self-efficacy and science identity …

Couples Neutrality, Marriage Neutrality, And Two-Earner Deductions, Daniel Shaviro Mar 2026

Couples Neutrality, Marriage Neutrality, And Two-Earner Deductions, Daniel Shaviro

Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review

Tax policy discussions of how to tax married couples, as compared to singles, often focus on the by now much-criticized norms of “marriage neutrality” and “couples neutrality.” While these norms are largely unpersuasive, they do offer a useful analytic starting point, because of both (a) how they relate to more validly expressed concerns, and (b) the significance of the empirical reasons why they generally do not hold.

In evaluating the proper relative tax treatment of different married couples, one of the most important factors that the federal income tax law fails to recognize is the difference between one-earner and two-earner …

Employing Effective Solution Methods For Caputo-Based Sequential Fractional Models, Eman A. A. Ziada, Mohamed F. Abouelenein, Hijaz Ahmad, Monica Botros

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This paper investigates a class of nonlinear sequential singular fractional differential equations (FDEs) involving Caputo derivatives. This type of equation has several key advantages that enhance its value, such as capturing memory and hereditary effects. Viscoelastic materials and anomalous diffusion, as well as biological systems, can take advantage of this feature. In addition, fractional derivatives possess a sequential structure that enables the implementation of multiscale processes and hierarchical memory responses. Moreover, it provides an effective and flexible framework for solving differential equations compared to classical differential equations. It can therefore be used to model complex systems in physics, biology, and …

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

Various infectious diseases, such as Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B virus (HBV), caused by Mycobacterium bacteria and hepatitis B virus, respectively, pose serious threats worldwide. This paper examines the spread of these diseases using a mathematical model that incorporates control measures, including vaccination and awareness programs. We use a system of differential equations with control variables and apply Pontryagin's principle to determine optimal control strategies. The stability of the Disease Free Equilibrium (DFE) has been analysed and demonstrated to be both locally and globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number remains below unity, thereby ensuring disease elimination. Furthermore, the Endemic …

Vision Transformer Model For Multiclass Classification And Localization Of Thoracic Abnormalities In Chest X-Rays, Mohammed Ahmed Talab, Sumia Abdulhussien Razooqi Al-Obaidi, Othman I. Hammadi, Suryanti Awang, Nur Syafiqah Mohd Nafis, Hasan Kahtan

Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data

Chest X-rays (CXRs) have been utilized as an important tool for diagnosing thoracic diseases because of their cost-effectiveness and accessibility. However, subtle signs of diseases, anatomical overlap and lack of expert radiologist in certain areas lead to difficulty in reading the CXRs. This indicates the needs of automated diagnostic systems to be accurate. Existing deep learning methods have shortcomings because they require pixel-level annotations to train models well. To address this problem, this study proposes Vision Transformers (ViT) with transfer learning for multiclass classification and weakly supervised localization of thoracic diseases in chest X-ray images. The technique uses patching, positional …
