Detecting And Managing Plant-Parasitic Nematodes On Peanut In South Carolina, Zachary Dantzler, Dan Arco, Joe E. Varn, Shelby Hammond, John D. Mueller Apr 2026

Detecting And Managing Plant-Parasitic Nematodes On Peanut In South Carolina, Zachary Dantzler, Dan Arco, Joe E. Varn, Shelby Hammond, John D. Mueller

Peanuts

Several species of nematodes cause significant yield losses on peanuts in the southern United States (Table 1). Among row crops, peanuts are unique because nematodes can damage peanuts at two different growth stages. First, nematodes can affect the emerging radicle and secondary roots, causing reductions in water and nutrient uptake, and subsequently causing stunting or chlorosis. In many cases, the most significant impact of nematodes on peanut is a decrease in grade caused directly by the nematodes feeding on peanut pegs and shells. These wounds allow pathogenic fungi to enter the shells, causing pod and seed rots (Figure 1). The …

Backlash: How Racial Justice In Higher Education Is Being Trumped By Politics, Aaron N. Taylor

AccessLex Institute Research

This article discusses contemporary social and political backlash to racial justice and how it has overshadowed and flouted higher education antidiscrimination law and principles of racial justice. The first three parts chart the evolution of U.S. Supreme Court precedent in higher education affirmative action cases. Part I interrogates the Court’s fallacious detachment of affirmative action from its racial justice origins in Defunis and Bakke. Part II discusses how the Grutter majority tacitly departed from Bakke, using the vague concept of critical mass to seemingly empower schools to engage in affirmative action as a racial justice tool. Part III explains how …

Policy Brief For Evidence-Based Telehealth Use In Ems: A Comprehensive Reference For Program Administrators, Field Leaders, And Clinical Directors, Florida Center For Emergency Medical Services

Florida Center for Emergency Medical Services Research Reports

Executive Summary

Telehealth-supported emergency medical services (EMS) represents an evidence- based approach to enhancing prehospital care delivery, expanding access to physician expertise, and improving resource utilization. The evidence base demonstrates clear benefits in appropriate contexts: for time-sensitive emergencies, telehealth enables significant reductions in treatment times; for low-acuity conditions, programs report transport reductions of 50–67% while maintaining high safety profiles.

Successful implementation requires appropriate patient selection, robust technical infrastructure, comprehensive training, and systematic quality assurance. Programs demonstrate success when targeting patients with stable vital signs and absence of conditions requiring immediate physical intervention. Implementation barriers commonly include regulatory and reimbursement limitations, …

Policy Brief For Vital Signs: Findings From Florida’S 2024 Ems Workforce Statewide Survey, Florida Center For Emergency Medical Services

Florida Center for Emergency Medical Services Research Reports

Executive Summary

Florida's Emergency Medical Services workforce stands at a critical juncture. The 2024 statewide survey of nearly 50,000 certified EMTs and paramedics reveals both strengths and vulnerabilities that demand immediate policy attention. While Florida's EMS professionals demonstrate strong commitment to their communities and confidence in clinical leadership, significant challenges threaten long-term workforce sustainability.

Most concerning are persistent gaps in compensation satisfaction, high rates of mental health challenges, and troubling retention patterns among early-career providers. These findings suggest that without strategic intervention, Florida may face escalating shortages in emergency medical response capacity, particularly in underserved and rural communities.

The Offshore Origins Of Regulatory Arbitrage, Ian J. Murray Apr 2026

The Offshore Origins Of Regulatory Arbitrage, Ian J. Murray

William & Mary Business Law Review

Especially since the 2007–08 financial crisis, commentators have seized on the term “regulatory arbitrage” to describe a sprawling range of strategic compliance behavior spanning diverse sectors of the contemporary economy. Despite the term’s prevalence, there is scant agreement on the scope of activities it describes. To some, it has become a catch-all for legal avoidance from time immemorial. Such an expansive understanding obscures the context that led the term to acquire salience and fosters a fatalist view that all regulation is futile. Resisting this trend, this Article answers calls to situate regulatory arbitrage in a richer socio-historical context. Tracing the …

The Hidden Tax Game, Doron Narotzki Apr 2026

The Hidden Tax Game, Doron Narotzki

William & Mary Business Law Review

Taxation is not just a legal duty; it is a game, and the best players always win. While governments rely on laws and penalties to enforce compliance, corporations, high-net-worth individuals, and elite tax strategists exploit loopholes, turning complexity into opportunity. This Article argues that tax avoidance is not a flaw in the system, but an expected outcome. Modern tax law does not just permit avoidance; it actively encourages it. The more intricate the rules, the more valuable it becomes to manipulate them.

Using game theory as an analytical lens, this Article reframes taxation as a high-stakes competition, where strategic players …

Impact Of Oil And Petroleum Crisis On The Philippine Economy, Caesar B. Cororaton Apr 2026

Impact Of Oil And Petroleum Crisis On The Philippine Economy, Caesar B. Cororaton

Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (AKI)

This policy note presents simulation results examining the impact on the Philippine economy of global oil and petroleum price shocks triggered by geopolitical tensions stemming from U.S.–Israel military actions (unprovoked bombing) against the Islamic Republic of Iran. These developments have contributed to significant disruptions in global energy markets, including sharp increases in oil prices and heightened risks to key supply routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The analysis considers multiple scenarios, comparing outcomes with and without government intervention to assess the effectiveness of different policy responses under such external shocks.

Trade Liberalization Under Safta And Bimstec: Evidence From A Cge-Gtap Case Study Of A Small Open Economy, Gita Bhushal, Pankaj Lal

Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Regional trade liberalization via preferential agreements increasingly shapes economic outcomes in small open economies embedded in overlapping regional frameworks. This study evaluates the short-run economy-wide effects of tariff and non-tariff measure (NTM) reforms under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) using a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model calibrated to the GTAP 10 database. Gravity-based estimates of ad valorem equivalents (AVEs) of NTMs are integrated into the CGE framework, enabling explicit modeling of regulatory barriers alongside tariff reductions. Policy simulations examine scenarios involving a 90 percent tariff …

Dnp Final Report: An Evidence-Based Project To Decrease Stress In Undergraduate Nursing Students, Elaine Wallace

DNP Final Reports

Stress among undergraduate nursing students is a well-documented concern that negatively affects academic performance, clinical readiness, well-being, and program retention. Stress levels are often heightened before clinical skills check-offs, highlighting the need for practical, evidence-based interventions. This Doctor of Nursing Practice quality improvement project examined whether mindfulness-based mandala coloring could reduce perceived stress in undergraduate nursing students. Using the PICOT framework, the project evaluated whether undergraduate nursing students (P) who participated in mindfulness-based mandala coloring (I), compared with no intervention (C), experienced reduced perceived stress levels (O) over a 12-week implementation period (T).

Targeting Oncogenes: Development And Characterization Of Aurka And Her2 Inhibitors, Itzel Montoya Apr 2026

Targeting Oncogenes: Development And Characterization Of Aurka And Her2 Inhibitors, Itzel Montoya

Chemistry Theses

Targeted inhibition of oncogenes has remained a key strategy in the development of more potent, effective, and less toxic therapeutic anticancer agents. Among the most clinically significant signaling pathways are those mediated by the Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) and Aurora Kinase A (AurKA). HER2 is a member of the ErbB receptor family that supports cell growth and proliferation through downstream signaling of the PI3K and MAPK pathways and is closely linked to more aggressive tumors and therapeutic resistance. AurKA is a protein kinase essential for mitotic spindle assembly, centrosome maturation, and other key processes in cell cycle …

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Background: Moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) remains a major cause of neonatal mortality and lifelong morbidity. Following publication of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network trial in 2005, therapeutic hypothermia (TH) became the standard of care for infants with moderate to severe HIE. However, national trends in HIE-related infant mortality before, during, and after TH implementation across racial and ethnic groups have not been comprehensively evaluated.

Objective: To assess the impact of therapeutic hypothermia on HIE-related infant mortality by comparing mortality rates before (2000-2005), during (2006-2009), and after (2010-2017) implementation of TH among different racial and ethnic groups in the …

Habitat Preference Of Invasive Lionfish (Pterois Spp.) In The Gulf Of Mexico, River Barnett Apr 2026

Habitat Preference Of Invasive Lionfish (Pterois Spp.) In The Gulf Of Mexico, River Barnett

Theses & ETDs

Lionfish (Pterois spp.) are an invasive species in the Gulf of Mexico that originated from the Indo-Pacific. They have no natural predators within this area and are known to prey on anything they can fit into their mouths, as well as having a high fecundity rate. This thesis investigated the habitat preferences of the invasive lionfish (Pterois volitans and P. miles) in the Gulf of Mexico, focusing on depth distribution and substrate preference. Specifically looking at quantifying depth-related patterns in lionfish abundance across shallow (< 20 m), intermediate (20–40 m), and mesophotic (>40 m) zones, assessing the influence of habitat structure, including artificial and natural habitats, on …

Voting The Bums Out Or Echoes Of Weimar?: The Fdp, Greens, Afd, Left Party, And Bsw In The 2025 Bundestag Election, David F. Patton

Government and International Relations Faculty Publications

In all likelihood, Germany’s 2025 federal election has driven a final nail in the coffin of a party system marked by two traditional catch-all parties and several small parties. The FDP, Greens, AfD, Left Party, and BSW together received a record vote share. However, not all of them were electoral winners. Led by the AfD, smaller opposition parties on the ideological extremes surged, while hinge parties in government lost ground. A clear pole position offered an edge in a polarized and fragmented field. This article examines pre-election developments, manifestos, candidates, results, and outlooks of five parties that have emerged as …
