Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt
Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt
Senior Honors Theses
At the end of the fifth century BC, Greek society underwent major changes as a result of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. While the origin of the war and its course of events are described in contemporary sources, the impact of the war on Athenian society is mostly overlooked. However, another contemporary source, the comedies of the Athenian playwright Aristophanes, provides an alternative perspective from which to consider Athenian society. A thematic study of Aristophanes’ eleven extant plays offers a window into changes in various aspects of Athenian society during and immediately after the Peloponnesian War, such as …

In this nonpayment proceeding, a guardian ad litem (GAL) sought compensation from the landlord for services rendered to a tenant residing permanently in a nursing home. The court denied the GAL's post-judgment motion, finding no statutory basis or justification to obligate the landlord to pay, as the litigation was not "unnecessary, unfounded or purely self-serving." The decision highlighted the systemic issues of the underfunded GAL Program, noting that the Human Resources Administration (HRA) typically declines to fund GALs for individuals "safely housed," even if they are rent-stabilized tenants. The court emphasized the need for legislative or agency-level solutions for GAL …

Orchestrator-Worker Llm Architecture For Mitigating Prompt Injection Via Separated Privileges, Jason Mayes
Defensive Publications Series
Agentic systems powered by a large language model (LLM) can be vulnerable to prompt injection attacks, where malicious instructions hidden in untrusted data may cause the system to perform unauthorized actions. An orchestrator-worker architecture can be implemented to mitigate this risk by separating system privileges. The design can feature an orchestrator component, comprising software logic and a privileged master LLM, that manages user commands and powerful tools, alongside one or more unprivileged, sandboxed worker LLMs that process untrusted data with a restricted toolset. When a worker LLM returns data, the orchestrator LLM can be configured to encapsulate the output in …
Biologically Inspired Segmented Electric Traction Motor With Load-Adaptive Stator Recruitment And Thermal-Aware Control, Justin Miles Jorgensen
Biologically Inspired Segmented Electric Traction Motor With Load-Adaptive Stator Recruitment And Thermal-Aware Control, Justin Miles Jorgensen
Defensive Publications Series
Abstract
This disclosure describes an electromagnetic traction motor architecture that mimics the distributed, modular torque production of biological motors (e.g., flagellar motors). The system utilizes a stator divided into independently energizable sectors (circumferential or axial). A supervisory controller dynamically “recruits” or “de-recruits” these sectors based on real-time torque demand, efficiency maps, and thermal headroom. This architecture enables improved part-load efficiency, 800V+ operation with reduced I²R losses, and “limp-home” fault tolerance by isolating degraded sectors without shutting down the entire machine.

On‑Chip Current Sensor For Resistance Calibration Of High‑Speed Input/Output Peripherals, Karthikeyan Subramanian, Kasi Chunduri
Defensive Publications Series
Resistance calibration in high‑speed input/output (HSIO) physical layers typically uses dedicated automatic test equipment (ATE) channels to force current and measure voltage at an external reference pin. This traditional approach increases testing overhead and limits the capacity for concurrent multi‑site device testing. This disclosure describes a method and system for performing resistance calibration using an on‑chip current sensor. The sensor’s differential voltage sensing pins are connected to the internal resistance network. A mixed‑signal transconductor converts the detected voltage drop into a current, which is then integrated, sampled, and digitized. Internal resistance is calculated from these measurements using Ohm’s Law, and …

Reducing Test Time Through Parallel Execution Of Analog And Digital Bist Sequences, Karthikeyan Subramanian, Kasi Chunduri, Achin Grover, Gurumoorthy, Suman Jayachandra
Defensive Publications Series
Traditional test methodologies for semiconductor devices typically execute Analog and Memory Built‑In Self‑Test (MBIST) sequences in a standalone, serial fashion. This sequential approach involves separate initialization and execution phases for each test block, which contributes to total tester time. Specifically, standalone sequences for components (e.g., Phase Locked Loops (PLL), Digital to Analog Converters (DAC), memory blocks) run independently through Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) or external interfaces. The disclosed method utilizes a concurrency algorithm based on the IEEE 1687 IJTAG standard and Procedural Description Language (PDL) to interleave these test sequences. Digital and analog initialization phases may be combined, followed …

The Veil Of Jurisprudence: How International Law Masks Coercive Violence, Kenneth H. Mcmillen
Linfield University Student Symposium: A Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Achievement
Who enforces international law? The answer lies in the different countries that make up international treaties and bodies that legislate international law. These laws conceptually are supposed to serve the same purpose that laws domestically do. They are meant to preserve justice for the different nations, with a theoretical framework that follows liberal ideals popularized by theorists like H.L.A Hart. However, these conceptions are wholly inaccurate as they lack the historical context that any analysis and justification of a system must need to be valid. I begin with a historical analysis of how the legal system has been used under …

Single treatments with psychedelics produce rapid, long-lasting antidepressant effects. Psychedelics may also exert anxiolytic effects and be useful in treating more complex psychiatric conditions, such as PTSD. However, less is known about the impact of these agents on PTSD-related symptoms. Thus, we aimed to determine whether a single administration of psilocybin could reverse PTSD-like sequelae induced by stress-enhanced fear learning in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were placed in Context A (circular, white conditioning box) and exposed to several uncontrollable footshocks (Stress) or no footshocks (No Stress). The next day, the rats were placed in Context B (square conditioning box with clear …
