The Dwellings Of Ybor City Project: Using Archival Recovery And Mapping To Examine Historical Erasure, Stephanie M. Mackin
The Dwellings Of Ybor City Project: Using Archival Recovery And Mapping To Examine Historical Erasure, Stephanie M. Mackin
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This article examines how digital archives and spatial humanities can address historical erasure. It focuses on reconstructing the lost residential landscapes of Ybor City, a culturally significant Tampa, Florida, neighborhood. The area was transformed by mid-twentieth-century slum clearance and urban renewal. The Dwellings of Ybor City project uses archival theory, participatory ethics, and GIS-based storytelling to geolocate and reinterpret a Depression-era album called "Photographs Showing Dwellings in the Ybor Slum Area." By pairing digitized historical photographs with contemporary rephotography and mapping them to their original sites, the project restores visibility to homes and neighborhoods largely erased from both the physical …

Creating a digital preservation implementation plan is a thoughtful exercise that allows archivists from a broad range of institutions to articulate achievable goals and create a roadmap towards a mature digital preservation program. Using tools that are flexible will help small repositories take the first step towards better stewardship of their electronic records. This article will discuss the creation of a digital preservation implementation plan at a small institution that includes activities such as surveys, benchmarking, and creating documentation. Practical steps …
Russian Linguistic Policy In The Post-Soviet World, Payton G. Deichler
Russian Linguistic Policy In The Post-Soviet World, Payton G. Deichler
The Dialogue
This paper examines the role of the Russian language as an instrument of soft power in the post-Soviet space, arguing that its geopolitical influence extends beyond demographic prevalence to the institutional frameworks through which it is promoted and mediated. Rather than functioning solely as a neutral medium of communication, Russian operates as an infrastructural component of influence that shapes access to media ecosystems, educational systems, and professional mobility across former Soviet republics. Drawing on the concept of a “Monopoly of Interpretation,” this study proposes that the centralized, state-linked promotion of Russian enables the consolidation of political narratives within shared linguistic …
Religion In Hobbes’ Political Project: God And Secularism In The Leviathan, Lea Mancarella
Religion In Hobbes’ Political Project: God And Secularism In The Leviathan, Lea Mancarella
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
This article argues that Hobbes views religion as a fundamental threat to political stability because competing religious authorities and claims of divine revelation undermine obedience to the sovereign and risk returning society to a state of civil war. Through close readings of Leviathan, it shows how Hobbes reframes religion as a human invention rooted in fear, critiques the political power of the Church, and ultimately uses contradictions about God’s nature to suggest that divine law cannot be rationally known. The author concludes that Hobbes’s political project requires a secular commonwealth in which religion has no public role, ensuring that civil …
The Fall Of France And Public Opinion During The 1940 United States Presidential Election, Ethan Moyer
The Fall Of France And Public Opinion During The 1940 United States Presidential Election, Ethan Moyer
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
This article argues that the fall of France in 1940 triggered a profound shift in American public opinion, weakening long‑standing isolationist attitudes and creating fertile ground for Franklin Roosevelt’s internationalist agenda. Drawing on contemporary polling and political developments, it shows how period effects, elite signaling, and coordinated media messaging converged to move the United States toward greater engagement in global security. Ultimately, the study demonstrates how Roosevelt leveraged both crisis and persuasion to redefine the boundaries of mainstream foreign policy in the 1940 election cycle.
From Superstition To Stability: Hobbes On Religion And Political Order, Erin Schulz
From Superstition To Stability: Hobbes On Religion And Political Order, Erin Schulz
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
In this article, the author argues that Hobbes treats religion as a profound political problem because its psychological origins, susceptibility to manipulation, and competing claims to authority can fracture obedience and destabilize the commonwealth. Through a systematic reinterpretation of miracles, prophecy, spirits, and Scripture, Hobbes strips religious authorities of independent power and places all public religious meaning under the sovereign’s control. The paper concludes that Hobbes does not abolish religion but domesticates it, transforming faith into a politically safe instrument that reinforces unity, obedience, and civil peace.
Why Right-Wing Populism Endured In Hungary But Collapsed In Brazil: A Comparative Institutional Analysis, Cooper Fensterstock
Why Right-Wing Populism Endured In Hungary But Collapsed In Brazil: A Comparative Institutional Analysis, Cooper Fensterstock
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
The main argument of this article is that right‑wing populism has endured in Hungary but collapsed in Brazil because of fundamental differences in institutional design, party cohesion, media control, and the strength of horizontal accountability. Orbán leveraged Hungary’s parliamentary fusion of powers, disciplined Fidesz party, and near-total media dominance to consolidate illiberal rule, while Bolsonaro was constrained by Brazil’s fragmented presidential system, weak party ties, independent judiciary, and pluralistic press. Through this comparative analysis, the paper shows how structural conditions—not just populist rhetoric—shape the durability of democratic backsliding.
Final Report: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap), Chelsea Livingstone
Final Report: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap), Chelsea Livingstone
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
The article evaluates the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), arguing that while it is one of the nation’s most effective anti-hunger policies—reducing food insecurity, lifting millions out of poverty, and stabilizing household resources—it continues to produce uneven outcomes due to administrative burdens, geographic disparities, and barriers faced by rural, immigrant, and mixed‑status households. Using Kingdon’s Multiple Streams Framework, the paper explains how SNAP’s expansions and limitations reflect shifting alignments among problem recognition, feasible policy solutions, and political will. It concludes with evidence‑based recommendations to improve equity and access, including streamlined enrollment, regionally adjusted benefits, strengthened outreach, and reduced stigma to …
Can Counterterrorism Be Taken Too Far?, Charles Tracy
Can Counterterrorism Be Taken Too Far?, Charles Tracy
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
The article evaluates three major counterterrorism tools—surveillance, torture, and drone warfare—through the lens of Just War Theory, arguing that each raises distinct ethical and strategic dilemmas. It concludes that surveillance can be morally permissible when tightly regulated, torture is indefensible both legally and morally, and drone strikes are conditionally ethical only under strict oversight that minimizes civilian harm and ensures accountability. Overall, the paper contends that effective counterterrorism is possible without abandoning human rights, but only when transparency, proportionality, and legal constraints guide state action.
Maritime Piracy In The Straits Of Malacca And Singapore, Brian Kenny
Maritime Piracy In The Straits Of Malacca And Singapore, Brian Kenny
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
This article examines the sharp rise in maritime piracy in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, arguing that the surge stems from the convergence of structural vulnerabilities—dense shipping traffic, poverty-driven motivated offenders, and limited state enforcement capacity—now intensified by global supply chain disruptions and new technologies. It shows that piracy, though currently less violent than in past decades, poses significant economic and security risks for Southeast Asia and the broader global economy. The paper concludes that effective long‑term mitigation requires both strengthened regional maritime cooperation and domestic reforms addressing the socioeconomic roots of piracy, particularly in Indonesia.
Restrictive Voting Laws In The United States, Brian Kenny
Restrictive Voting Laws In The United States, Brian Kenny
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
In this article, the author argues that the recent wave of restrictive voting laws in the United States is driven less by genuine concerns about voter fraud and more by Republican efforts to counteract demographic and political changes that disadvantage the party electorally. Reviewing political science research, it shows that while some restrictions—especially felon disenfranchisement—clearly suppress turnout among marginalized groups, the overall electoral effects of most laws remain mixed due to backlash mobilization and uneven implementation. The paper concludes that despite uncertain partisan gains, these restrictions pose significant risks to democratic equality and require both short‑term mobilization and long‑term structural …
The Equal Pay Act Of 1963, Alyssa Dawson
The Equal Pay Act Of 1963, Alyssa Dawson
The Political Realm: Journal of Undergraduate Research in Political Science and International Relations
In this article, the author argues that while the Equal Pay Act of 1963 marked an important early milestone in addressing gender‑based wage discrimination, its narrow “equal work” standard, ambiguous language, and employer‑friendly judicial interpretations have limited its long‑term effectiveness. Through policy analysis and case law, it shows how the Act’s incremental design, business‑driven compromises, and failure to address structural and intersectional causes of pay disparity have left significant gaps—particularly for women of color and workers in emerging sectors like the gig economy. The paper concludes that meaningful progress requires strengthening existing enforcement mechanisms and pursuing new, adaptive policies that …

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences
Oral administration through the digestive tract is still the most common means by which drugs are given, as it is simple and cheap. However, it has some biopharmaceutical limitations in general, such as varying gastrointestinal conditions, enzymatic degradation, and extensive hepatic first-pass metabolism, which decrease drug stability and bioavailability To address these challenges, drug delivery through the oral mucosa (OMDD) has emerged as a potential non-invasive option. The buccal mucosa is well supplied with blood, provides a relatively mild environment, and avoids hepatic first-pass metabolism, thereby resulting in a faster onset of action and improved bioavailability. Mucoadhesive buccal films have …

On-Device Multi-Sensor Fusion With Machine Learning For Continuous Transit Navigation, Hui Ling Shi, Louis Lai, Oliver Dolk, Gul Kamisli Hasanoglu, Si Min Ong
Defensive Publications Series
Mobile navigation applications for public transit can experience degraded performance in environments with poor global positioning system signals, such as subway tunnels, which may cause a user's location display to freeze and guidance to cease. A described on-device system may address this by fusing data from a plurality of sensors, such as a barometer, magnetometer, and accelerometer, on a computing device like a smartphone or wearable device. A lightweight machine learning model can process this sensor data to generate a real-time probability that the user is on a moving transit vehicle. This probability may then be combined with a user's …

Commerce Identity Backend For Deterministic Online-To-Offline Transaction Attribution, Keith Hall, Alan Stapelberg
Commerce Identity Backend For Deterministic Online-To-Offline Transaction Attribution, Keith Hall, Alan Stapelberg
Defensive Publications Series
Connecting a user's online discovery with their offline purchasing behavior can be challenging due to fragmented ecosystems and a lack of visibility at physical point of sale (POS) terminals, which can impede transaction attribution. A headless commerce identity backend system is described that can address this gap by establishing a cloud-based account-level primitive. This primitive may use a payment account reference, a stable, non-sensitive identifier, as a federated key to map a user's account to their offline transactions. Such an architecture can facilitate the ingestion of stock keeping unit-level receipt data from POS terminals (e.g., cash registers, payment kiosks) via …
5t-Isc-Awg Technical Addendum 8, Vesa Olavi Lius
5t-Isc-Awg Technical Addendum 8, Vesa Olavi Lius
Defensive Publications Series
This Addendum extends the 5T-ISC-AWG Defensive Publication (2026) with a rigorous long-term thermal balance analysis of the bedrock-tunnel condenser, addressing a question that the parent publication acknowledged as a known limitation but did not quantify in detail: how the plant maintains passive operation over decadal timescales when the bedrock condenser is continuously absorbing latent heat of condensation at megawatt-class rates. The analysis confirms that the published Nordic and Mediterranean yields (0.93 and 1.16 ML/day respectively) are fully sustainable in passive 24/7 operation, and identifies the physical mechanisms through which long-term thermal balance is achieved: dew-point-pinning of the warm inlet wall …

Mapping The Void In Electric Vehicle (Ev) Adoption Research: Uncovering Lack Of Socio-Economic Study In The Global South, Satvik Pandey, Rahul Tiwari, Rajat Soni
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are considered an effective contemporary alternative to Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. Research in the domain of EV is being conducted globally across a variety of fields; among them, our study explored research on consumer adoption. Going through the bibliometric analysis of the data taken from the Scopus database, what came to our attention is the minimal amount of work that is done on understanding consumers of EVs. From the literature, we found that consumer preferences are shaped through the influence of several parameters related to EVs, and this influence varies according to the consumer’s socio-economic and …
Grace And Generosity: A Nt Defense Of Christian Giving And Stewardship, Jermaine Mcinnis
Grace And Generosity: A Nt Defense Of Christian Giving And Stewardship, Jermaine Mcinnis
Masters Theses
This thesis holds that Christian stewardship and giving remain divinely appointed activities in the NT, despite growing skepticism in modern ecclesial and academic circles. Firmly grounded in biblical theology and canonical exegesis, the research argues that the disciplines of tithing, giving, and sacrificial stewardship are not eliminated by grace but are redirected and intensified with Christ. The research examines OT assumptions, Jesus’ instruction, and apostolic instruction to illustrate consistency in God's expectation of His people's obedience regarding finances. Drawing on current scholarship, the thesis refutes assumptions that giving is optional or less culturally relevant, underlining its vital importance to church …
The Sacrificial Vs. The Luzhinian Figure: Comparing Sacrificial Love In Crime And Punishment, Pride And Prejudice, And A Tale Of Two Cities, Natalie Rose Kubala
The Sacrificial Vs. The Luzhinian Figure: Comparing Sacrificial Love In Crime And Punishment, Pride And Prejudice, And A Tale Of Two Cities, Natalie Rose Kubala
Masters Theses
Many works of art and literature exploring the theme of love focus on trying to define what love is; in contrast, this thesis dives deeper into defining what love is not, specifically focusing on the relationship between love and sacrifice. This thesis argues that love is not the same as sacrifice because a true sacrifice requires that love is already present prior to the sacrifice being made. This thesis will compare those who perform true sacrifices to those who perform sacrifices for their own personal gain by exploring grandiose narcissistic characters who perform (or attempt to perform) sacrifices without love …

Patient Follow-Ups For Hospital Nurses: Addressing Nurse Well-Being After Rapid Response Events, Quean Brown, Cristin Phillips, Molly Liddell, Katherine Thompson, Tala Fuad Hatem Abu Zahra, Jacqueline Christianson
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background: Bedside registered nurses (BRNs) in the hospital setting care for patients who may unexpectedly deteriorate. When nurses witness patient deterioration, it is helpful for them to engage in meaning-making and contextualization to facilitate compassion satisfaction, mitigate secondary traumatic stress, and improve job satisfaction (Kopacz et al., 2019; Sattler & Smith, 2020). When a rapid response team (RRT) intervention is called and the patient warrants transfer to intensive care (ICU), BRNs rarely receive formal follow-up regarding the outcomes of their patients. Lack of feedback regarding critical situations may contribute to secondary traumatic stress, moral distress, decreased job satisfaction among BRNs, …
