Disrupting The Link Between Exposure To Violence And Adolescent Delinquency: The Protective Role Of Expectations About The Future, Eunbyeor Sophie Yang, Seohyun Kim, Su-Kyung Oh, Hyeyoung Kang, Ick-Joong Chung

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

Exposure to violence significantly influences adolescent delinquency, posing a critical public health concern. We examine the moderating role of expectations about the future in this context, particularly whether their impact differs between minor and severe delinquency. Analyzing data from the fifth wave of the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being (n=1,272), we employed hierarchical linear regression and the PROCESS macro. Our findings reveal that exposure to violence is positively associated with delinquency; meanwhile, expectations about the future are negatively associated with adolescent delinquency. Positive expectations about the future significantly mitigate the impact of exposure to violence on adolescent delinquency …

The Single Story In Translation: Domestication As A Tool Of Colonial And Neocolonial Hegemony, Younes Aich Apr 2026

The Single Story In Translation: Domestication As A Tool Of Colonial And Neocolonial Hegemony, Younes Aich

Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts

This study examines how translation has been used to sustain colonial and neocolonial hegemony by producing reductive representations of the East. Drawing on Adichie’s notion of the “single story” and postcolonial translation theory, it argues that domestication may function as a hegemonic strategy when foreign texts are adjusted to the expectations, values, and stereotypes of the dominant target culture. Such practice constructs the West as the universal model of progress while positioning Eastern cultures as inferior, exotic, or dependent. The study uses a qualitative hermeneutic design to interpret selected concepts and examples related to colonial discourse, neocolonial representation, domestication, and …

Global Distribution And Origin Of Manganese Deposits: Insights Into Oman's Role In Production And Economic Significance, Abdulrahman Kayode Shehu, Salah Al-Khirbash, Mohammed Farfour

Sultan Qaboos University Journal For Science

Manganese is a globally significant industrial metal essential for steelmaking, battery technologies, and emerging green-energy applications. As demand increases, understanding the geological diversity, distribution, and economic context of manganese deposits is critical. Manganese deposits occur in a range of tectonic settings and include hydrogenetic, diagenetic, and hydrothermal–exhalative systems associated with ophiolites, mid-ocean ridges, back-arc basins, and sedimentary basins. These genetic types exhibit distinct mineralogical, geochemical, and isotopic signatures that reflect processes such as hydrothermal precipitation, hydrogenetic crust formation, and diagenetic remobilization. These different genetic Mn types have distinct mineralogy, major and trace element compositions, REE geochemistry, and isotopic compositions, reflecting …

Health education is practiced in patient encounters via verbal communication and educational pamphlets. However, these techniques are faulty and do not provide true patient comprehension of their conditions and treatments reform is necessary to prevent the mortality and hospitalization rates that are linked to poor health literacy. Visual aids and metaphors are individually known to be powerful educational tools. A student organization at Stony Brook University, Artists in Medicine, has sought to synergize these tools to create visual metaphors artwork that links everyday concepts to patient illnesses to facilitate comprehension of this information. For example, one project “Aortic Dissections” depicts …
