Organic Cherry Pest Management, Marion Murray, Ann Mull

All Current Publications

Tart cherry (Prunus cerasus) and sweet cherry (P. avium) are important commercial crops and popular backyard trees. Tart cherries are commonly processed into dried or canned products, while sweet cherries are generally eaten fresh. Organic cherry production in the Intermountain West can be challenging because of pests such as western cherry fruit fly and arid growing conditions. However, with careful planning and appropriate management practices, it is possible to produce a good crop using organic pest management strategies. This fact sheet outlines general, pest, and disease management options.

Mara Nathan v. Alamo Heights Independent School District

On Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit

From the Summary of Argument

For more than seventy years, this Court has made clear that a state “may not coerce anyone ... to take religious instruction” or use public schools to “force ... religion on any person.” Zorach v. Clauson, 343 U.S. 306, 314 (1952). For good reason. Doing so advances one of the “true evil[s] of religious establishment" that Founding-era Americans rejected: “the use of government power” to foster “uniformity …

Unlocking Potential: Rural Community College Students And Preparation For Post-Secondary Studies, Lindley M. Gilliaum

College of Education

Rural community college students often encounter educational, financial, and structural barriers that influence their readiness for college and their transition into postsecondary education. Although community colleges serve as a primary point of access to higher education for many rural students, limited research has examined how these students perceive their own college readiness and the experiences that shape those perceptions. The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry was to examine the lived experiences of first-year rural community college students and their perceptions of college readiness, secondary educational experiences, and barriers to postsecondary success. Guided by Perna's (2006) Nested Model of College …

A Framework For Understanding The Vulnerabilities Of New Money-Like Products, Kenechukwu Anadu, Patrick Mccabe, J.P. Perez-Sangimino, Nathan Swem

Journal of Financial Crises

New money-like products, such as tokenized money market funds (MMFs), money market exchange-traded funds, and stablecoins, could be transformative for finance. These products may offer significant benefits, but like other money-like assets, they also have certain vulnerabilities. We introduce a framework to analyze the vulnerabilities of new products by comparing their features to those that contribute to vulnerabilities in MMFs. Specifically, we examine the extent to which each product engages in liquidity transformation, is subject to threshold effects, serves as a money-like asset, poses contagion risks, and has reactive investors. Our framework is useful for assessing the potential effects of …

Scheduling The Charging Of Battery-Electric Vehicles Under Heterogeneous Scheduling Constraints, Justin Whitaker, Greg Droge, Mario Harper Sep 2026

Scheduling The Charging Of Battery-Electric Vehicles Under Heterogeneous Scheduling Constraints, Justin Whitaker, Greg Droge, Mario Harper

Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Research

Adopting battery electric vehicles (EVs) for vehicle fleets requires scheduling charging alongside day-to-day operations. This problem is complicated by complex utility cost structures, limited battery capacity, and competition for shared charging resources. Existing methods that simultaneously schedule routes and charging neither address the full cost structure nor employ high-fidelity charging models, and no prior work analyzes fleets containing vehicles with heterogeneous routing constraints. This work addresses these gaps by combining a state-of-the-art flexible-schedule formulation with time-of-use (TOU) demand costs and a non-linear, variable-rate charging model as drawn from additional state-of-the-art works. The proposed method is validated against two state-of-the-art methods, …

Superiorgat: Graph Attention Networks For Sparse Lidar Point Cloud Reconstruction In Autonomous Systems, Khalfalla Awedat, Mohamed Abidalrekab, Gurcan Comert, Mustafa Ayad, Negash Begashaw Sep 2026

Superiorgat: Graph Attention Networks For Sparse Lidar Point Cloud Reconstruction In Autonomous Systems, Khalfalla Awedat, Mohamed Abidalrekab, Gurcan Comert, Mustafa Ayad, Negash Begashaw

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

LiDAR-based perception in autonomous systems is fundamentally limited by sparse vertical sampling and further degraded by structured beam dropout caused by occlusions, sensor faults, or reduced-cost LiDAR hardware. These degradations disrupt vertical geometric continuity and negatively affect downstream perception tasks such as object detection, localization, and scene understanding. Existing reconstruction approaches often struggle to balance reconstruction accuracy with the computational efficiency required for real-time autonomous operation. This paper presents SuperiorGAT, a graph attention–based framework for reconstructing missing elevation information in sparse LiDAR point clouds under structured beam loss. The proposed method models LiDAR scans as beam-aware graphs and enhances standard …

Developing The Self-Care Guilt Scale, Mary Lynn Fahey Sep 2026

Developing The Self-Care Guilt Scale, Mary Lynn Fahey

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Purpose: A qualitative study (Fahey, 2023) using Story Theory identified "self-care guilt"—moral distress when engaging in health activities—as a barrier to wellbeing among fathers of children with ASD. This proposed study will develop and validate the first instrument measuring this construct.

Background: Fathers of children with ASD experience depression 3x general population rates (Hoyle et al., 2021) yet show lowest self-care engagement among caregivers (Martinez et al., 2021). Our preliminary work revealed guilt transforms self-care from stress-reducer to stressor, making traditional interventions paradoxically harmful. No existing measure captures guilt as self-care barrier.

Theoretical Framework: Story Theory (Smith & Liehr, 2018) …
