The Unseen Women Of Japan: Marginalization Of Single Mothers, C. Bo Boja
The Unseen Women Of Japan: Marginalization Of Single Mothers, C. Bo Boja
International Studies Undergraduate Honors Theses
In recent times, Japan has been grappling with a shockingly wide gender gap, as calculated by the Global Gender Gap Report. The contradiction of a prosperous country with disproportionate gender inequality points to underlying trends within Japanese society that continue to work towards undermining women’s opportunities and rights, especially those who do not fit into the ideal standards set for women, specifically single mothers. Studies have shown that multiple external societal factors work towards perpetuating the poverty of single mothers. This thesis analyzes primary and secondary research from government data, academic articles, books, news articles, and interviews of this population's …
Japanese Women In The Workforce: Tradition Versus Equality, Sierra Kehrwieder
Japanese Women In The Workforce: Tradition Versus Equality, Sierra Kehrwieder
International Studies Undergraduate Honors Theses
For decades, women in Japan have advocated for gender equality, especially for increased support in entering the work force. However, it has been difficult to increase women’s rights without compromising traditional ideals. As more women needed to enter the workforce in the 1990s due to economic circumstances, gender equality has become increasingly called into question. The role of the office lady and the role of female politicians reflect the limited role women have in the workplace. This is reinforced by state legislation, which are created by a government overrepresented by men. These policies aim to promote economic development and address …

Concealed Carry Legislation And Firearm-Related Deaths In The United States: Possible Causes And Ramifications, Amelia Liu, Kyle Willette
Scholarship in Medicine - All Papers
Background: Previous research has shown that there is not an association between the legislation of constitutional carry and firearm deaths, but rather it is predominantly associated with socioeconomic status and location. On the national scale, the factors that most significantly affected firearm related deaths, firearm homicides, and firearm suicides were partisan lean, urbanization, and poverty rate over these three categories. Concealed carry legislation was not significantly associated with deaths. Objective: We are looking at whether the passage of constitutional carry laws have impacts on the rates of firearm-related deaths or violent crime across states. Important variables we are considering include …

IAPC Written Histories
Matthew Lipman befriended me at an APA meeting in 1974. Through more than twenty years of phone calls, I got to chat with, consult with, and learn from Matt the details and challenges of developing philosophy for children. He acknowledged that I convinced him that the program needed “branding,” lest anyone present similar-sounding programs—some of which might be good and others not. He got a snippet of a video of my teaching troubled sixth-graders with his book Harry Stottlemeier’s Discovery on the Today Show with Bryant Gumbel. That did much to shape my future, as did branding for sustaining Matt’s …

Journal of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology
Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is now established as an important non-invasive imaging tool in the assessment of cardiovascular disease. Standard CMR protocols are able to perform functional analysis, tissue characterisation and flow/ velocity analyses which will be covered in this review. Furthermore, advances are being made to expand CMR’s capabilities opening new horizons for faster scanning times, improved accuracy of diagnosis and improved prognostic information for patients. These techniques include vascular and intraventricular 4D flow, quantitative stress perfusion, exercise CMR, strain analysis and artificial intelligence. The reader will be provided with a stateof- the-art review on the application of CMR …

However, no precise mechanism supported the implementation of …
An Ontology Design Pattern For Role-Dependent Names, Rushrukh Rayan, Cogan Shimizu, Pascal Hitzler
An Ontology Design Pattern For Role-Dependent Names, Rushrukh Rayan, Cogan Shimizu, Pascal Hitzler
Computer Science and Engineering Faculty Publications
We present an ontology design pattern for modeling Names as part of Roles, to capture scenarios where an Agent performs different Roles using different Names associated with the different Roles. Examples of an Agent performing a Role using different Names are rather ubiquitous, e.g., authors who write under different pseudonyms, or different legal names for citizens of more than one country. The proposed pattern is a modified merger of a standard Agent Role and a standard Name pattern stub.

BACKGROUND: The contemporary challenges of improving patient engagement in chronic disease management and addressing the growing problem of physician burnout are commonly viewed as separate issues. However, there is extensive evidence that person-centered approaches to patient engagement, such as motivational interviewing (MI), are associated both with better outcomes for patients and improved well-being for clinicians.
METHODS: We conducted an exploratory survey study to ascertain whether resident physicians who perceive that they embrace and utilize the MI approach also report less burnout. A total of 318 residents in several specialties were invited via email to complete a 10-question survey about patient …

These challenges have a direct effect on their performance at the workplace. Correspondents play a pivotal role in the success of media organizations, and research shows that they contribute about 80 percent of media content (Devex, 2022). Odhiambo (2002) states that correspondents are paid on retainers and sometimes need reasonable contracts, making them vulnerable.
