Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a family-based treatment program for youth with externalizing behavior problems, often involved in juvenile justice and child welfare systems. FFT is an evidence-based program and has been implemented across many states, including the state of Virginia. Objective. The present study performed a program evaluation and observational study of the implementation and sustainment of FFT in Virginia, during the first five years of implementation. Method. Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) is pivotal in advancing human-computer interaction by enabling machines to understand and respond to human emotions. Despite significant progress with self-supervised learning models, SER systems often struggle with generalization across diverse languages and unseen data distributions, limiting their real-world applicability. This thesis addresses these challenges by first introducing a large-scale benchmark to evaluate the robustness and adaptability of state-of-the-art SER models in both in-domain and out-of-domain settings. The benchmark includes a diverse set of multilingual datasets, emphasizing cross-lingual and out-of-domain evaluations to assess model generalization. For centuries, the Jewish people have faced expulsions, pogroms, massacres, and Propaganda. that runs so deep it would be like staring into an abyss. This oppression has motivated Jewish activists worldwide to fight back not only on behalf of the Jewish community but for many areas of perceived need. Jewish involvement in social activism in the U.S. has been particularly recognized by scholars of the labor and Civil Rights movements. Purpose:

To determine the effect of local anesthesia on postoperative comfort in patients undergoing dental care under general anesthesia.

Methods:

This study was modeled as a double-blinded randomized control trial. Patients included healthy children under the age of 6 years scheduled for restorative dental treatment under general anesthesia (GA). Patient behavior was evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively using the Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability (FLACC) or other pain score and postoperatively using the Parent’s Postoperative Pain Measure (PPPM). Transgender and gender nonbinary (TGNB) individuals experience high rates of discrimination and microaggressions that can lead to internalized cisgenderism and adverse mental health outcomes such as depression, anxiety, and suicidality. Individuals with disabilities similarly experience high rates of discrimination and microaggressions that can lead to internalized ableism and increased adverse mental health outcomes. An Examination Of Hiring Practices And Employee Retention Today Compared With Pre-Pandemic Characteristics In Orthodontics, Logan Passey

Purpose: Evaluate current hiring practices and employee retention characteristics in orthodontic private practices.

Methods: Orthodontists (n=1000) were surveyed regarding their hiring methods and outcomes. Responses were summarized with descriptive statistics. Chi-square tests were used to compare hiring practices and perceptions. Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis tests were utilized in analysis of retention thresholds.

Results: Survey response rate was 7.2% (72 responses). When comparing thresholds previous to, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in open clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial positions (p=.0008). 68% of orthodontists reported a decrease in qualified applications for clinical positions compared with non-clinical and managerial …

Objective: Outcomes related to healing following an avulsion injury are multifactorial. However, contemporary literature suggests that tooth survival can be enhanced after such injuries by promptly replanting the tooth and adhering to proper management guidelines. TGF-β1 is a potent regulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transtion (EMT), a cellular
transdifferentation process that promotes cellular motility and matrix remodeling, critical to tumorigenesis and metastasis. TGF-β1-induced EMT promotes the assembly of FN, which synergistically binds latent TGF-β1 to aid in its activation. The purpose of of this work is to further probe the effects of autocrine TGF-β1 signaling during EMT progression by utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 deletion of the TGFB1 gene in in vitro models of triple-negative breast cancer. Silicon and silicon-germanium alloy nanostructures have garnered increasing attention in the past 25 years due to their favorable optical properties, visible to near-IR luminescence, and inherently low toxicity. While many synthetic routes have been discussed in the literature, the high-temperature, solid-state disproportionation of hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) has become the most popular way to produce highly crystalline, size-tunable Si and Si-based nanostructures (NCs). Urine filtration microscopy (UFM) lacks sensitivity in detecting low-intensity Schistosoma haematobium infections. In pursuit of a superior alternative, this study evaluated the performance of FlukeCatcher microscopy (FCM) at detecting S. haematobium eggs in human urine samples. Urine samples were collected from 572 school-age children in Afar, Ethiopia in July 2023 and examined using UFM and FCM approaches. Using the combined UFM and FCM results as a reference, the sensitivity, negative predictive value, and agreement levels for the two testing methods in detecting S. haematobium eggs in urine samples were calculated. Inclusive education is widely acknowledged as a beneficial opportunity for students with disabilities. However, the location of the instruction is only one factor in creating inclusive opportunities for all students. For education to be truly inclusive, appropriate support to foster participation and learning within the chosen setting must also be provided. Despite international acceptance of this ideal, implementation of inclusive education is challenging. Through a review of current research, I will examine how current inclusion practices in special education impact the social-emotional development and academic achievement of students with diverse learning needs.
