Preemption’S Climate Action Gap: How Chevron U.S.A. Inc. V. County Of Monterey Perpetuates Big Oil Capture In California, Lilia Alameida
Chapman Law Review
The oil and gas industry has argued that the use of unconventional extraction methods, such as fracking, is one way to reduce emissions, combat climate change, and bolster national security through energy independence. While fracking increases extraction output, modern research suggests that fracking increases the risk of earthquakes, water contamination, and disastrous spills. These risks deserve special attention in California, which is particularly susceptible to water scarcity and increased seismic activity.
In light of these concerns, the California state legislature enacted multiple amendments to the mandate of the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), including the ambitious goal of reaching …

Cipher security is becoming an important step when transmitting important information through networks. The algorithms of cryptography play major roles in providing security and avoiding hacker attacks. In this work two hybrid cryptosystems have been proposed, that combine a modification of the symmetric cryptosystem Playfair cipher called the modified Playfair cipher and two modifications of the asymmetric cryptosystem RSA called the square of RSA technique and the square RSA with Chinese remainder theorem technique. The proposed hybrid cryptosystems have two layers of encryption and decryption. In the first layer the plaintext is encrypted using modified Playfair to get the cipher …

Where We Are: The Datafication Of Location, Conor Mcgarrigle
Conference Papers
This contribution seeks to examine the centrality of location and the activity of walking as everyday practices essential to extractive digital capitalism. The argument is that location – physical presence - is the glue that binds together data into individualised profiles adding contextual value to the myriad data points captured in the accelerating data colonisation of everyday life. Location in this sense is an everyday attribute (or technology), the capture and datafication of which, has become a byproduct of basic participation in contemporary life. Location and urban movement are well theorised in urban and artistic practice, from Baudelaire's flaneur, the …

Since the 1960s, development patterns influenced by upstream land use planning policies have favoured a more suburban car-based approach for street and neighbourhood design (McGrath, 1992), subsequently influencing transport system needs and scheme design. In turn, transport policy and design influence population physical activity levels and emissions. As we moved to this more suburban design, our university campuses followed suit and now we have challenges that deter physical activity to and through our university campuses. Furthermore, air quality issues encouraged by a suburban design can enhance an individual's discomfort in participating in physical activity and may influence their decision to …

It had been noticed that 3-phase and 4-phase computed tomography protocols with contrast serve as standard examinations for diagnosing liver tumors. Additionally, many patients require periodic follow-up, which entails significant radiation exposure for them. Advancements in image processing facilitate automated liver lesion segmentation. However, the challenge remains in classifying these small lesions by doctors, especially when the liver has different types of lesions with very little intensity difference. Therefore, deep learning can be utilized for the classification of liver lesions. The present work introduces a CNN-based module for the classification of liver lesions. The module consists of four stages: data …
