Taking Flight Or Taking A Pass? Exploring Factors Influencing Consumer Willingness To Pay For Evtol Travel, David C. Ison
Taking Flight Or Taking A Pass? Exploring Factors Influencing Consumer Willingness To Pay For Evtol Travel, David C. Ison
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
The Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry is experiencing significant growth due to technological advancements and increasing demand for efficient travel experiences. The market is expected to reach $45 billion by 2030, with major players like Joby, Archer, Beta, and Wisk dominating. This study aimed to assess public willingness to pay for AAM services using eVTOLs, using Amazon's Mechanical Turk platform. The survey yielded a response rate of 85.8%, with 1,622 completed surveys. The study found that younger urban consumers were more willing to pay higher prices for AAM electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft trips than older participants, possibly …

Risk Management Practices In The Aviation Industry: Lessons Learned And Effective Tools… A Mixed Method Approach, Jim W. Marion Jr. Phd, Tracey M. Richardson, Valerie Denney, Carlos Chaves
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
This paper provides a data-driven approach to apply lessons learned from Project Risk Management in the aviation industry. This is accomplished by performing a qualitative analysis to inform a second-pass quantitative analysis using tools like surveys, word clods and analysis through NVivo and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The results of this analysis show that the most important lessons are elements of early identification, rigorous risk identification and analysis and a focus on reducing risks inherent within the aviation history. Furthermore, the analysis yielded the following top tools for risks management within their phases of the project life-cycle: document review, checklists …

Delphi Panel For Establishing Land Use Compatibility Areas And Standards For Vertiports, David C. Ison
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
This study aimed to determine land use compatibility guidelines for vertiports, which are locations where vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft operate. The study employed a three-round e-Delphi panel to establish vertiport land use compatibility zones and standards. The results reached a consensus of at least 70%, providing comprehensive land use compatibility recommendations for vertiports. The study provides a foundation for vertiport land use compatibility planning, ensuring the integration of vertiports in existing communities. The findings can also increase public and local officials' awareness of the needs and requirements of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure development. The uniformity between existing …
Comparative Analysis Of Aviation And Ground Transportation Safety Standards Applicable To The Integration Of Unmanned Aircraft Operations, Andrew Walker
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
This study performed a comparative analysis of SMS in both the aviation and ground transportation industries to identify any gaps that may impact aviation safety by incorporating UAS operations within the ground transportation industry. The study reviewed relevant literature and compared the FAA SMS and FMCSA SMC policy components. The study also compared the implementation of OSHA requirements within the aviation and ground transportation industries. After reviewing the relevant policy components, the study finds that differences in safety standards between the FAA SMA and FMCSA SMC would impact safety. The study recommends that the SMC incorporate process descriptions for SRM …
Non-Technical Skills Proficiency In Aviation Pilots: A Systematic Review, Seda Ceken
Non-Technical Skills Proficiency In Aviation Pilots: A Systematic Review, Seda Ceken
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
This systematic review aims to examine the role of non-technical competencies in pilot selection and flight operations, and explore the methods used for their assessment. It has been discerned that relying solely on technical flying skills is insufficient for a pilot; there is a growing understanding that a pilot candidate must possess and adeptly employ non-technical skills, commonly referred to as Crew Resource Management (CRM) skills. This systematic review was designed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. For this review, a systematic search was conducted across seven databases. Seventeen publications were included in …

This essay documents approaches to growing honors affiliate faculties through community and university partnerships. The need for new strategies to prepare non-traditional faculties is shown by evidence that the student population is changing and by the critical responsibility honors programs have in the mentorship of diverse students. Professionals, local experts, student affairs administrators, and international scholars can make valuable contributions to honors programs and colleges, given their practical insights and hands-on experiences. Methods for selecting, recruiting, and integrating affiliate faculty into honors education are also shared. The authors cite examples of successful collaborations with community leaders, officers in multicultural affairs …

In a plenary address at the 2023 NCHC annual conference in Chicago, the former Vice Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee issued a challenge for honors students and educators to use their voices and positions of local leadership to promote peace. The call for peace advocacy extended in Chicago resonated with the large audience, as leadership development represents a high-impact practice that many honors programs embrace. As national and international conflicts produce increasing polarization and divisiveness that seep into our campuses and local communities, the urgency for honors students to hone critical thinking and practical skills needed for citizen leadership …

The Transnational Human Rights Review
This paper presents insights and implications from a two-day research symposium organized by the Regional Health Governance Study (RHGS) in 2024. The symposium examined how a regional approach to health governance within the Inter-American System, which comprises the Commission, the Court and the Pan-American Health Organization, can support the development of an equitable pandemic management system. It also examines the limitations of WHO-led pandemic response measures, identifies regional governance mechanisms, and offers policy recommendations to strengthen pandemic preparedness in the Americas. A qualitative thematic analysis using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was employed to assess barriers, facilitators, and …

Back To The Future? Rishi Sunak's Industrial Strategy, James Silverwood, Richard Woodward
Back To The Future? Rishi Sunak's Industrial Strategy, James Silverwood, Richard Woodward
Articles
Since becoming Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has been variously described as pursuing a ‘furtive', ‘surreptitious' and ‘apologetic' industrial strategy. Terms such as industrial policy and industrial strategy have been expunged from official speeches and policy documents, yet industrial intervention remains widespread. In adopting this approach, the article argues that Sunak has returned the UK to an industrial policy consensus established under Thatcherism. This consensus places in the foreground pro-market rhetoric and policies suggesting that industrial strategy should be limited to the correction of market failure, while in the background the state actively intervenes to shape the structure of the economy …

Cryptocurrency — Legally Navigating The “Highway To Climate Hell”, Steven Ferrey

The U.S. electric system is regarded as history’s greatest engineering achievement and the second most important invention in history. This Article analyzes the provocative legal ‘dark side’ of crypto currency now compromising the sustainability and resiliency of the U.S. electric system. Crypto currency miners have migrated in mass during the 2020s from Asia to several areas of the U.S., choosing inefficiently to waste large amounts of fossil-fuel and electric power. Scholars suggest that Bitcoin’s indirect carbon emissions at the current rate, alone with no other increases by world nations (which in fact are still increasing rapidly) are enough to push …

Saving The Permit Streamlining Act: The California Supreme Court Must Depart From Horn V. County Of Ventura, Milene Minassians
UC Law Environmental Journal
The Permit Streamlining Act (PSA) ensures swift resolution of permit applications by simplifying the processing of permits for development projects. To achieve this end, the California Legislature set forth various time limits within which local permitting bodies must approve or disapprove of a complete application. After the time expires, the PSA provides that a project shall be “deemed approved” so long as affected landowners are given “public notice required by law.” The PSA’s statutory framework butts up against Horn v. County of Ventura—a 1979 California Supreme Court case that is inconsistent with California due process principles. The Horn decision has …
