Surface Classification And Predictive Path Analysis For Hazard Avoidance In Wearable Display Devices, Michael Christopher Yu May 2026

Surface Classification And Predictive Path Analysis For Hazard Avoidance In Wearable Display Devices, Michael Christopher Yu

Defensive Publications Series

Wearable electronic devices face challenges in identifying surface hazards, such as ice, potholes, or cliffs, while providing relevant safety information is prioritized for the wearer. Traditional methods often struggle with detecting translucent or low-contrast hazards and can result in information overload. This disclosure describes a method for hazard identification and avoidance that utilizes signal artifacts from time-of-flight sensors combined with predictive path analysis. Surface composition is classified by analyzing the noisiness and reflection patterns of sensor signals, which allows for the differentiation of materials like snow, ice, or water from diffuse surfaces like gravel. Concurrently, a projected path is generated …

Automated Generation And Dynamic Insertion Of Image Alternative Text Via Generative Models, Benjamin Albert Azose

Defensive Publications Series

Missing or low-quality alternative text, or alt text, frequently impedes web and document accessibility. Alt text includes descriptive information attached to an image that screen readers use to describe visual content to visually impaired users. A deficiency in alt text creates a barrier for users who depend on screen readers to interpret visual content on webpages. The disclosure describes a method whereby a web browser or document viewer utilizes a generative model to analyze the content of an image to be displayed. If the image is not associated with alternative text that describes the image adequately, the web browser or …

Holographic Data Sharding For Cross-Jurisdictional Storage And Ephemeral Edge Reconstruction, Mohsin Alam May 2026

Holographic Data Sharding For Cross-Jurisdictional Storage And Ephemeral Edge Reconstruction, Mohsin Alam

Defensive Publications Series

A waveform security model may use a holographic sharding process to transform a data object into a set of mathematically incomplete and individually unintelligible interference patterns. An orchestration engine can distribute these shards across multiple storage providers and/or jurisdictions, configured to prevent a single entity from possessing sufficient information for reconstruction. The complete data object can be reconstituted, for example, ephemerally within a secure processing environment on an authorized client device (e.g., a smartphone, a laptop computer) at a time of use. This process can render data non-local, disaggregated, and mathematically incomplete at rest, potentially improving data sovereignty and secrecy …

Autonomous Reconciliation Of Cloud Configuration Drift Into Infrastructure As Code, Paras Mamgain May 2026

Autonomous Reconciliation Of Cloud Configuration Drift Into Infrastructure As Code, Paras Mamgain

Defensive Publications Series

Cloud environments can experience configuration drift, where manual interventions may cause the live state of resources to diverge from their infrastructure as code (IaC) definitions, creating a risk that automated deployments could overwrite certain fixes. To address this, an autonomous reconciliation agent can programmatically discover live cloud resources, analyze their configurations and dependencies, and synthesize relational IaC that represents the current environment. This generated code may then be integrated into a version control system, for example, by creating a pull request for human review. The process can provide an automated pathway to codify out-of-band changes, helping to reduce drift and …

The Living Memory System: A Framework For Transforming Death Care Infrastructure Into A Perpetual Relational Ecosystem For Memory Preservation, Family Continuity, And Citizen-Governed Memorial Stewardship, Joseph Jm Walker

Defensive Publications Series

The death care industry operates under structural conditions that systematically disadvantage grieving families through information asymmetry, compressed decision timelines, relationship termination at the point of transaction, fragmented archival systems, and the absence of citizen-governed transparency standards. Simultaneously, the digital era has created a second layer of fragmentation in which human lives generate vast quantities of meaningful material that remains structurally disconnected from permanent physical memorial locations and inaccessible across generations.

This disclosure presents the Living Memory System — a modular, globally applicable framework repositioning memorial infrastructure from a primarily transactional service category into a long-term continuity ecosystem serving families, communities, …

Innocent Until Proven Guilty: Native Valve Staphylococcus Lugdunensis Infective Endocarditis Complicated By Embolic Stroke In A Peritoneal Dialysis Patient: A Case Report, Hasan Obeidat, Sandeep Kshetri, Mohamad Mansour, Rabin Shrestha

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a coagulase-negative staphylococcus (CoNS) with unique virulence traits that mimic Staphylococcus aureus, despite traditionally being grouped among less pathogenic skin flora. Unlike other CoNS, S. lugdunensis can infect native valves and cause aggressive infective endocarditis (IE). We present a rare and instructive case of S. lugdunensis native mitral valve endocarditis complicated by cerebral embolic infarctions and requiring surgical valve replacement in a patient on chronic peritoneal dialysis. This case underscores the diagnostic challenge of CoNS bacteremia, highlights the embolic potential of S. lugdunensis, and represents one of the few documented cases of stroke complicating S. …

Subaltern Alternatives: Reclaiming Agency Through Spatial Articulation, Nadirah Ali May 2026

Subaltern Alternatives: Reclaiming Agency Through Spatial Articulation, Nadirah Ali

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

The concept of the subaltern, introduced by Antonio Gramsci to describe populations excluded from political, social, and economic power while still being used to sustain dominant systems. Today, migrant construction workers often occupy this condition: essential to urban growth, yet denied dignity, visibility, and participation in the cities they build. Their housing is frequently reduced to an instrument of control—spaces designed to contain labor rather than support life. This thesis proposes an architectural alternative.

The project examines contemporary cases of labor exploitation in the United States, Qatar, and Singapore, where migrant workers have faced unsafe conditions, wage theft, …

Learned Resilience, Rebeca Ortiz May 2026

Learned Resilience, Rebeca Ortiz

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Haiti faces a complex web of environmental and social pressures, from deforestation and soil erosion to climate instability and strained institutional support. While regenerative farming and community-led development are often discussed in the context of sustainability, architecture is frequently relegated to the background, treated as a secondary or isolated fix rather than a primary driver of change. My work challenges this by positioning architecture as the central, regenerative framework that weaves together food production, collective learning, and civic life. I see the built environment not just as shelter, but as an active agent for resilience and a sense of belonging. …

Not The Only Game In Town: Unconsolidated Democracy, Elite Capture, And Shifting Alliances In Georgia, Leah Mayerhauser

CISLA Senior Integrative Projects

This paper examines Georgia’s post-Soviet political development to explain why the country, once viewed as a leading candidate for democratic consolidation, has experienced sustained democratic erosion and shifting geopolitical alignment. Drawing on Juan Linz and Alfred Stepan’s theory of democratic consolidation, it argues that Georgia never fully achieved a consolidated democracy after independence, leaving key institutional arenas including civil society, political society, rule of law, state bureaucracy, and economic society, unevenly developed and vulnerable to elite capture. Through a historical and institutional analysis from 1991 to 2026, this paper traces how early failures in state formation, unresolved questions of stateness, …

The Collapse Of Coffee: Latin American State Capacities To Respond To Market Liberalization, Eli M. Craddock May 2026

The Collapse Of Coffee: Latin American State Capacities To Respond To Market Liberalization, Eli M. Craddock

CISLA Senior Integrative Projects

The International Coffee Agreement (ICA) was an export quota market agreement that governed the international coffee trade from September 1963 until 1989. During its nearly 30-year tenure, it had a strong regulatory function that was dedicated to stabilizing the global coffee industry. The collapse of the ICA in 1989 marked a critical turning point in the global coffee economy, triggering a sharp decline in prices and exposing producing countries to market volatility. This paper examines why national responses to this liberalization shock varied across Latin American coffee producers. By integrating the Varieties of Capitalism (VoC) and Global Value Chain (GVC) …

Fault Location In Dc Microgrids Using Traveling Waves, Sajay Krishnan Paruthiyil May 2026

Fault Location In Dc Microgrids Using Traveling Waves, Sajay Krishnan Paruthiyil

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

In DC power systems, rapid fault location is crucial for maintaining reliable operation, particularly with the prevalence of DC-DC converters. This study investigates fault location techniques in DC systems utilizing Traveling Waves (TWs). Following data normalization, multi-resolution analysis employs discrete wavelet transform to capture high-frequency patterns of TW's wavelet coefficients. Parseval's theorem is utilized to quantify the energy of these coefficients. First, a curve-fitting technique is employed to estimate fault locations in DC microgrids. Then, two transfer learning approaches are proposed: first approach integrates Parseval energy curves into a Gaussian process estimator, while second employs feedforward neural network for fault …

An Analysis Of Pass Neurocognitive Processing Profiles On The Using The Cas-2 Standardization Sample, Danielle Lacey

ETD Collection

Cognitive assessments have long played a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of human intelligence. Serving as cornerstones for measuring cognitive abilities, IQ tests provide essential insights that inform educational and psychological interventions. This study builds upon Naglieri’s (2000) research examining cognitive processing using the original Cognitive Assessment System (CAS) by conducting a similar analysis with standardization data from the CAS-2. Grounded in PASS theory, the CAS-2 was designed to assess cognitive processes rather than acquired knowledge. Its research emphasizes intra-individual variations in cognitive functioning and offers a process-oriented alternative to traditional, content-based intelligence tests. This approach promotes a more …
