The Role Of Adverse Childhood Events On The Progression Of Chronic Kidney Disease In Children: A Ckid Study, Ana Cortez, Matthew Matheson, John Cowden, Bradley Warady, Darcy K. Weidemann

Posters

There is a paucity of research on the relationship between adverse childhood events (ACEs) and chronic kidney disease. The effect of ACEs on the long-term health outcomes of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and chronic lung disease first emerged in a paper published in 1998. The National Institutes of Health sponsored the ACE Study, which Kaiser Permanente carried out in California. The study used a 17-question survey addressing seven exposures: psychological, physical, contact-sexual abuse, substance abuse, mental illness, mother being treated violently, and criminal behavior in the household. The results revealed a strong relationship between childhood exposure to ACEs and health outcomes. …

Trajectories Of Depression Severity In The First Semester Of College, Nicole A. Kelso May 2024

Trajectories Of Depression Severity In The First Semester Of College, Nicole A. Kelso

Theses and Dissertations

Depression is a major public health concern among students in higher education. Prior work suggests that depressive symptoms increase during the transition to college. Transfer students face unique challenges during the transition to a new academic institution that may make them particularly vulnerable. There is a critical need to expand prevention efforts. Research that improves identification of students at greatest risk for developing impairing depressive symptoms, and etiological processes contributing to depressive symptoms could aid in the provision of limited prevention resources. Furthermore, longitudinal research tracking symptom trajectories during the transition to college could help inform the timing of preventive …

Fine-Grained Address Space Layout Randomization Through Non-Contiguous Per-Function Memory Segment Assignment, Andrew Kramer May 2024

Fine-Grained Address Space Layout Randomization Through Non-Contiguous Per-Function Memory Segment Assignment, Andrew Kramer

Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations

Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) is a popular exploit mitigation provided by most modern operating systems today. ASLR works by randomizing the base address of position-independent code and data segments loaded in memory at run-time in order to make it more difficult for an attacker to guess their locations.

This design choice makes ASLR fast and efficient, but suffers from a major flaw: If an attacker is able to leak any pointer to the randomized memory mapping, they can easily calculate the corresponding base address, and in turn calculate the address of any other code or data in that segment, …
