A Multimodal Analysis Of Conflicting Discourses On New Mexican Identity, Nicholas L. Chavez, Fátima Holguín
A Multimodal Analysis Of Conflicting Discourses On New Mexican Identity, Nicholas L. Chavez, Fátima Holguín
Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística
We analyze two contrasting discourses on New Mexican identity, as represented in political cartoons from Trever (2021) and García (2018). We show how visual and linguistic elements of the cartoons work together to construct identity through metaphor and metonymy. It was found that Trever (2021) relied on cultural symbols such as the Zia Sun symbol as metonyms for various aspects of New Mexico’s identity, while García (2018) subverted established metaphors for American culture such as the melting pot and Uncle Sam to critique governmental influence on Nuevomexicano (‘New Mexican’) identity formation. Using the critical discourse analysis framework of Fairclough (1995), …

Global Discourse On Special Education, Lingyu Li
Global Discourse On Special Education, Lingyu Li
Open Educational Resources
This assignment directs students to critically examine global inequities in knowledge production by analyzing and expanding existing, underdeveloped Wikipedia articles related to special education. Structured across six phases, the project requires students to conduct a representation analysis, synthesize multilingual sources using translanguaging practices, and draft neutral, encyclopedic content in the Wikipedia Sandbox. The assignment culminates in the publication of these open knowledge artifacts on live Wikipedia pages, alongside a separate critical reflection essay exploring themes of epistemic dominance, coloniality, and how disability is constructed differently across national contexts.

The Effect Of Strength Training On The Development Of Selected Core Muscles And Arm Strength In Young Boxers Aged 17–18 Years, Abbas Tawfeeq Mansoor
The Effect Of Strength Training On The Development Of Selected Core Muscles And Arm Strength In Young Boxers Aged 17–18 Years, Abbas Tawfeeq Mansoor
Modern Sport
This study aimed to investigate the effect of strength training on the development of selected core muscles and arm strength in young boxers. Boxers utilize maximum and fastest arm punches and core movements to achieve optimal performance against their opponents in bouts. Despite the importance of these elements, variations in specific strength levels are observed among young boxers aged 17–18 years. The problem lies in the fact that traditional training may not adequately or specifically focus on the "selected core muscles" that support dynamic balance during a fight, or on the link between core strength development and increased arm strength …

El Forastero Y El Culto: H.P. Lovecraft In The Work Of Mariana Enríquez, Griffin Carty
Lovecraft: “Shadow over Innsmouth” y “The Thing on the Doorstep”.

When Justice Fails: Female Vengeance And Indigenous Memory In Jayro Bustamante’S Film La Llorona (2019), Isabel Ibáñez De La Calle
Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística
Jayro Bustamante’s film La Llorona (2019) reimagines the Latin American myth of the weeping woman to expose the failures of state justice and propose a feminist, decolonial alternative rooted in Indigenous memory and spiritual retribution. The film follows retired general Enrique Monteverde, modeled after Guatemalan dictator Efraín Ríos Montt, as he is tried for genocide against the Maya Ixil people. While the courtroom scenes depict a moment of accountability, they ultimately reveal how legal institutions remain complicit in protecting power. In contrast, the arrival of Alma—an Indigenous domestic worker who embodies La Llorona—introduces a supernatural force that intervenes when the …

COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease transmitted primarily through human contact. Therefore, understanding population mobility is essential for predicting COVID-19 case trends. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning approach for forecasting new COVID-19 cases using a neural architecture called Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Interpretable Time Series (N-BEATS). The N-BEATS model effectively handles long input sequences and large output horizons without information loss or increased computational complexity. We compare the performance of N-BEATS with a state-of-the-art benchmark model, LSTM-Markov, across four major countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Brazil. Three distinct COVID-19 datasets from …

Ecosystems are shaped by communities of microorganisms whose niches and impacts depend on functional profiles influenced by gene gains and losses. Culture-based experiments demonstrate that mobile genetic elements (MGEs) can mediate gene flux, but quantitative understanding of these dynamics in natural systems remains limited. Here we develop and apply a systematic, meta-omic framework to investigate MGEs in a complex natural system using an 8-year soil time series collected at Stordalen Mire, in Sweden’s thawing permafrost margin. In this climate-critical peatland, we identify ~2.1 million MGE recombinases across 89 microbial phyla and assess ecological distributions, affected functions, past mobility and current …

Operationalizing Supply-Chain Hygiene In Graduate Is Education: A Hands-On Module For Secure Software And Ai/Ml Pipelines, Dominic A. Wilson
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Supply-chain attacks (including typosquatting, dependency confusion, compromised builds, dataset poisoning, and backdoored models) pose growing threats to analytics platforms central to Information Systems (IS). While frameworks like the Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) and Supply-chain Levels for Software Artifacts (SLSA) offer guidance, IS curricula often lack accessible, infrastructure-light modules that build practical skills for mitigating these risks. This experience report presents a two-week module embedded in a graduate Secure Coding course required for a Master’s in Applied Security and Analytics degree. The module operationalizes secure development habits across both traditional software and machine learning (ML) pipelines. The module addresses a …

The Nist Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework: Adoption Challenges And Opportunities, Gillian Kennedy, Devin Patel, Humza Sheikh, Paul Wagner, Robert J. Honomichl
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Artificial intelligence (AI) is being adopted at an exponential rate to improve efficiency, decision-making, and cybersecurity, but its rapid integration introduces new and often poorly understood risks, including system errors, algorithmic bias, data privacy concerns, security vulnerabilities, and ethical dilemmas. This paper examines how organizations are implementing AI and evaluates the National Institute of Standards and Technology's AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF) as a tool for managing these risks. It reviews the benefits of AI adoption alongside the risks emerging from its use in business and broader society and examines the legal and ethical challenges organizations face when …
[Early Bird] The Texas Common Ownership Litigation: Sustainability, Competition, And The Boundaries Of Asset Manager Capitalism, Federico Ghezzi
[Early Bird] The Texas Common Ownership Litigation: Sustainability, Competition, And The Boundaries Of Asset Manager Capitalism, Federico Ghezzi
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
This article analyzes the recent attempt by the Texas Attorney General to invoke the common ownership doctrine as a new antitrust weapon against large institutional investors allegedly engaged in coordinated ESG strategies. The case represents a peculiar reversal of the traditional logic of the theory: rather than being used to constrain horizontal shareholdings that may reduce competition, common ownership is deployed here to challenge collective action aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The paper situates this development within the broader debate on the anticompetitive effects of horizontal ownership, briefly examining the economic assumptions underlying the theory, the limits of its empirical …

Empowering Digital Transformation In Human Resource Management: Overcoming Barriers And Treating Paradoxes In The Manufacturing Sector, Lukáš Danko, Lucie Hrbáčková, Jana Matošková, Aleš Gregar
European Management Studies
Purpose: This paper investigates the multifaceted barriers to digitalization of the HRM and explores the paradoxes that arise between technological advancement and organizational culture.
Design/methodology/approach: Based on semi-structured interviews with HR directors from manufacturing firms, this qualitative inquiry employs thematic analysis to identify recurring themes and construct a typology of integration barriers. The Critical Incident Technique (CIT) anchors narratives in real events, while thematic analysis enables abstraction across cases of digitalization of the HRM.
Findings: The findings reveal three critical areas related to (1) organizational resistance rooted in cultural inertia, (2) misalignment between digital strategy and HR processes, and (3) …

Integrating Climate Performance Into The Firm Strategy: The Concept Of Climate-Oriented Leadership, Pawel Chudzinski, Szymon Cyfert, Wojciech Dyduch, Jakub Kubiczek, Maciej Zastempowski
European Management Studies
Purpose: This study proposes the concept of climate-oriented leadership, focusing on how climate-related challenges shape firm strategy and how stakeholder pressures concerning climate performance influence organisational decision-making.
Approach: Using a focused conceptual review and theory-building approach, the article proposes a firm-level framework of climate-oriented leadership.
Findings: The study conceptualises climate-oriented leadership as a bounded, domain-specific firm-level construct that draws on responsible leadership, and strategic leadership. The framework explains how leaders may reconcile shareholder, stakeholder, and climate orientations in organisational strategy and governance.
Research limitations: The article is conceptual in nature and relies on a bounded review corpus rather than an …
