Regenerating Publics - Developmental Inclusion: Neighborhood Opportunities And Public Realm Obstacles In Plymouth, Uk, Alessandro Aurigi

School of Art, Design and Architecture

The area around Union Street in Plymouth, UK, has been facing processes of decline. Key historical buildings sit empty, with deteriorating fabrics, epitomizing the socio-economic condition of the neighborhood. This paper explores perceptions of ‘inclusion’ in Union Street, and visions to improve it, through interviews with key stakeholders from community groups, the local authority, local businesses, landlords, local health organizations, visitors and designers. Whilst some local actors amplify inclusive processes - for example in the low-cost re-use of spaces to host micro, alternative businesses or community initiatives – these efforts clash with a general perception of a depleted and unsafe …

Exploiting Uncertainty Of Computational Methodology In Optimizing User Interface In Human-Computer Interaction, Nada Mohamed, Alshaimaa A. Tantawy

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Human-computer interaction (HCI) evaluation and optimization of user interfaces (UIs) constitute a complex multi-criteria decision-making challenge, marked by conflicting evaluation dimensions, subjective expert judgments, and inherent uncertainty in user experience assessment. Traditional evaluation approaches, such as heuristic expert reviews and user satisfaction surveys, rely on sharp, binary classifications that fail to capture the gradual and overlapping nature of human cognitive and affective states. This limitation necessitates a more robust uncertainty-aware methodology that can model the true complexity of HCI evaluation. This paper proposes a hybrid mathematical model that integrates various Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques of Entropy, and Simple Additive …

Recursive Neutrosophic Superhypergraphs With Illustrative Applications, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Suman Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal, Volkan Duran

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Finite hypergraphs generalize ordinary graphs by permitting each hyperedge to join any nonempty set of vertices, and thus provide a natural model for truly multiway interactions. To represent hierarchical and multi-layer structure, SuperHyperGraphs iterate the powerset operation so that set-valued entities created at one level can be treated as vertices at higher levels. Independently, recursive hypergraphs allow edge recursion: an edge may contain not only vertices but also lower-level edges, yielding nested (and possibly self-referential) incidence controlled by a specified recursion depth. In this work we introduce and axiomatize Recursive Neutrosophic SuperHyperGraphs, a unified framework that combines vertex …

Modelling Of Dust Devil Flow Dynamics: Effects Of The Sharpness Parameter On Velocity And Pressure, Deepanshu Kumar, Hossein Jafari Jun 2026

Modelling Of Dust Devil Flow Dynamics: Effects Of The Sharpness Parameter On Velocity And Pressure, Deepanshu Kumar, Hossein Jafari

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This work discusses the development of a straightforward model of dust devils, demonstrating a method for estimating wind speed and pressure. The current model incorporates momentum equations and the mass conservation equation for steady, axisymmetric, inviscid, and incompressible flow. In this model, the radial velocity is first considered, which is restricted in both the radial and axial directions. The sharpness parameter is also incorporated into the radial velocity formulation, as described by Vatistas model. Using the radial velocity as a foundation, we derive the azimuthal and axial velocities. The study further evaluates the pressure. Notably, for large values of the …

Dynamical Behavior, Extinction And Persistence In A Stochastic Delayed Two-Strain Epidemic Model With A Generalized Crowley-Martin Incidence Rate, Amina Allali, Dounia Bentaleb, Saida Amine Jun 2026

Dynamical Behavior, Extinction And Persistence In A Stochastic Delayed Two-Strain Epidemic Model With A Generalized Crowley-Martin Incidence Rate, Amina Allali, Dounia Bentaleb, Saida Amine

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This paper develops and analyzes a novel delayed stochastic SIR epidemic model with two interacting strains and general incidence functions. By establishing the existence and uniqueness of a positive global solution, the well-posedness of the model under stochastic perturbations is ensured. Extinction occurs when the stochastic reproduction number falls below unity, as demonstrated through Itô calculus and martingale convergence theorems, while persistence is guaranteed under the Crowley–Martin incidence when it exceeds one. Numerical experiments based on the Positive Preserving Truncated Euler–Maruyama (PPTEM) scheme confirm the analytical predictions and highlight the influence of time delay and noise intensity on the long-term …

Tumor–Immune Dynamics With Memory And Time Delay: A Fractional-Order Model With Ctla-4 Regulation, Mutaz Mohammad, Mohyeedden Sweidan, Alexander Trounev, Fathalla Rihan

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4$^{+}$ T cells, IFN-$\gamma$, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. Theoretical properties, including positivity, boundedness, equilibrium structure, and fractional-order stability, are examined to establish the biological and mathematical consistency of the model. The delayed fractional system is then investigated computationally by comparing several numerical methods, including finite difference discretization, Daubechies wavelet collocation, Euler wavelet collocation, and a predictor-corrector scheme. …

Stochastic Analysis Of Epidemic Size And Peak Infection In An Svir Model With Imperfect Vaccine And External Source Of Infection, María Gamboa Pérez Jun 2026

Stochastic Analysis Of Epidemic Size And Peak Infection In An Svir Model With Imperfect Vaccine And External Source Of Infection, María Gamboa Pérez

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

The dynamics of an infectious disease outbreak are studied under a stochastic framework in a closed population where individuals are homogeneously mixed. A vaccination program is implemented in the community prior to the start of the epidemic. The administered vaccine is imperfect, meaning that vaccinated individuals may still become infected upon contact with infected individuals. The mathematical Susceptible-Vaccinated-Infected-Recovered (SVIR) model describing the evolution of the epidemic is formulated as an absorbing, continuous-time, three-dimensional Markov chain with compartments for vaccinated, susceptible, infected and recovered individuals. The aim of this study is to characterize two fundamental epidemiological quantities: the maximum number of …

Numerical Method For Strongly Variable-Density Flows At Low Mach Number: Flame-Sheet Regularisation And A Mass-Flux Immersed Boundary Method, Matheus P. Severino, Fernando F. Fachini, Elmer M. Gennaro, Daniel Rodríguez, Leandro F. Souza Jun 2026

Numerical Method For Strongly Variable-Density Flows At Low Mach Number: Flame-Sheet Regularisation And A Mass-Flux Immersed Boundary Method, Matheus P. Severino, Fernando F. Fachini, Elmer M. Gennaro, Daniel Rodríguez, Leandro F. Souza

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

A low-Mach-number flow, in the laminar regime, has intrinsically two characteristic spatial scales for a given time scale, or two characteristic temporal scales for a given spatial scale, and these dual scales are very different due to the disparity between the flow and acoustic speed. Therefore, low-Mach-number flows impose mathematical and computational challenges in their description. Standard numerical methods for compressible flows, which are typically designed for problems with a single dominant spatial and temporal scale, require alternative approaches, such as preconditioning techniques or solvers tailored for low-Mach-number equations. The present work introduces a simplified fluid dynamics model for flows …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC) comprises a heterogeneous group of tumors with emerging molecular subtypes. Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated SNSCC is a distinct entity, although actionable genomic alterations beyond HPV-driven pathways remain underexplored. Distinguishing HPV-associated SNSCC from carcinoma ex inverted papilloma can be particularly challenging in limited biopsy specimens, as these lesions may appear morphologically similar. We report a case of HPV-associated SNSCC with concurrent FGFR3::TACC3 fusion and NOTCH1 p.C1416 stop-gain mutation.

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background: The preferred treatment for hypogonadism, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), has a varying efficacy that is currently not fully understood. This observation may be explained by polymorphism of the androgen receptor (AR), a ligand-binding transcription factor whose polyglutamine tract length affects various health conditions and androgen sensitivity. It has been theorized that this polymorphism may also affect the severity of hypogonadism. This study sought to determine a correlation between hypogonadism severity, TRT efficacy, and number of CAG trinucleotide repeats in the AR gene.

Methods: One hundred sixty-two males presenting to a single institution with symptoms of hypogonadism were recruited for …

Oncocytic Intraductal Carcinoma Of The Parotid Gland With Strn::Alk Fusion, Reham H Soliman, Chris Shi, Kevin E Fisher, Hong Yu, Fouad El-Dana, Xu Cao, Li Liang, Pei Ying, Songlin Zhang Jun 2026

Oncocytic Intraductal Carcinoma Of The Parotid Gland With Strn::Alk Fusion, Reham H Soliman, Chris Shi, Kevin E Fisher, Hong Yu, Fouad El-Dana, Xu Cao, Li Liang, Pei Ying, Songlin Zhang

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Intraductal carcinoma (IDC) of the salivary gland is an uncommon epithelial neoplasm characterized by a predominantly intraductal or intracystic proliferation rimmed by a myoepithelial cell layer. Advances in molecular profiling have revealed recurrent gene fusions in IDC, most frequently involving RET, although fusions implicating other kinase genes have also been described. Among these, ALK rearrangements are rare and remain poorly characterized. Herein, we report a case of oncocytic IDC of the parotid gland harboring a STRN::ALK fusion, further expanding the molecular landscape of this tumor. Although this fusion has been previously reported in intercalated duct IDC, to our knowledge, this …

Entrenchment And Expansion: How Political Dynasties Affect Poverty Within And Between Philippine Provinces, Jurel K. Yap

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review

The persistence of poverty in the Philippines is linked in the literature to the prevalence of political dynasties, yet the precise mechanisms of this relationship remain underexplored. This study sought to disentangle two distinct phenomena: the effect of long-term dynastic entrenchment (structural, between-province differences) from that of dynamic dynastic expansion (changes within a province over time). To do so, this paper employed a within-between panel data model on a unique dataset covering 80 provinces from 2004 to 2021, with the Political Concentration Index (Political HHI) as the primary measure of dynastic power. The results showed that while dynastic entrenchment and …

A Case Study Of Sport And Racism In Australia: A Qualitative Document Analysis, Vegneskumar Maniam, Kristy O’Neill

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review

Australia is well known as a ‘sporting nation’ with outstanding elite sporting achievements and grassroots-level sports participation. The reality for Australia’s First Nations people and those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, however, tends to differ from the mainstream Australian population. One of the contributing factors being argued within this paper is the prevalence of historical and contemporary racism in Australian sport. This study focuses on four of Australia’s most popular community-participation sports, including Australian Rules Football (ARF), Cricket, Netball, and Swimming. Using a Qualitative Document Analysis method, this research investigates both primary and secondary sources for instances of …

Institutionalizing Public Consultation In Thai Health Legislation: Lessons From Ria And Pls Practices, Stithorn Thananithichot, Wichuda Satidporn, Chompunoot Tangthavorn

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review

Public consultation is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of democratic governance, yet its institutionalization in middle-income democracies such as Thailand remains uneven. Although the 2017 Constitution and the 2019 Act on Legislative Drafting and Legal Evaluation mandate participatory processes through Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) and Post-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS), implementation has often remained procedural rather than substantive. This study examines how consultation practices operate within Thailand’s public health legislation, a policy domain characterized by significant distributive and ethical implications. Using a qualitative comparative case study design, the research analyzes three legislative processes: the National Health Security Act B.E. 2545 (2002), the …

Monte Carlo Analysis Of Dose Distribution In Tumour And Adjacent Healthy Tissues During 192Ir Hdr Brachytherapy In The Presence Of Gold Nanoparticles, Damian P. Tippe, Innocent J. Lugendo

Tanzania Journal of Science

High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy using 192Ir is an effective modality for cancer treatment; however, its therapeutic efficiency is often constrained by unintended radiation exposure to healthy tissues surrounding the tumour. Fortunately, the incorporation of high atomic number (Z) nanoparticles as radiosensitizers has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance tumour dose while sparing adjacent normal tissues. In this study, the dose distribution in tumour and nearby healthy tissues during 192Ir HDR brachytherapy was investigated in the presence of gold (Au) nanoparticles using Monte Carlo simulations based on the Geant4 toolkit. Radial dose distributions and anisotropy characteristics were analysed …

Natural Radioactivity And Radiological Hazards In Sediments From The Lindi Coast, Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Viator Mujuni, Innocent J. Lugendo

Tanzania Journal of Science

The Lindi coast of the Indian Ocean, located in southeastern Tanzania, supports rich biodiversity and has recently experienced rapid growth in socio-economic activities such as fishing, mining, and oil and gas exploration. These activities may enhance levels of natural radioactivity in coastal sediments, potentially increasing radiation exposure to local populations. Therefore, monitoring radioactivity levels and estimating associated radiation doses in this region is important. In this study, thirty-six sediment samples were collected from twelve locations along the Lindi coast and analysed for naturally occurring radionuclides using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry. The activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and …

Linear Programming Model For Optimal Crop Allocation Under Varying Land Sizes In Pawaga, Tanzania, Mustapha Abbas Kiswanya, Seleman Ismail, Saul Mpeshe

Tanzania Journal of Science

Farmers often rely on intuition when selecting crops, which can lead to suboptimal profits. In this study, we examine the optimal annual crop allocation under varying land sizes for farmers in Pawaga, Iringa District, Tanzania. A parametric linear programming (LP) model is developed to determine crop allocation combinations that maximise profit subject to land, labour, and capital constraints. Unlike conventional approaches that require separate models for different farm sizes, the proposed model accommodates land holdings ranging from 1 to 9 acres and integrates nine crop types within a single framework. Data were collected over three (3) agricultural seasons from extension …
