Towards Reliable Large Language Models For Cyber Threat Intelligence, Md Tanvirul Alam Jul 2026

Towards Reliable Large Language Models For Cyber Threat Intelligence, Md Tanvirul Alam

Theses

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) helps security analysts respond to evolving threats, but the evidence it draws on is often scattered across noisy reports, advisories, and threat descriptions. Large language models (LLMs) provide a flexible interface for security analysis, yet reliable use requires grounding their outputs in source evidence, domain schemas, and CTI standards. We address this problem through structured threat representation, task-specific evaluation, and verifier-guided post-training. First, we study how unstructured CTI reports can be converted into structured threat knowledge. We develop an ontology-guided extraction framework that normalizes attack patterns, extracts typed entities and relations, and constructs a threat intelligence …

Activity Transition Graph Generation: How Far Are We?, Jiakun Liu, Peixin Zhang, Han Hu, Yonghui Liu, Wei Minn, Ferdian Thung, Shahar Maoz, Eran Toch, Debin Gao, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Android applications (i.e., apps) are indispensable nowadays and are getting bigger and bigger with an increasing number offunctionalities. To understand how to access functionalities in an app, prior studies proposed tools to model the transitionsbetween functionalities with the activity transition graph (ATG). ATG is an important data structure and has been used forvarious Android app analyses, including app design, understanding, and testing. However, there is no benchmarking work onATG generation. It is still unclear whether the transitions identified by tools are correct and how many transitions are missed. To fill this gap, we manually identified all transitions in 98 applications to …

How Cultural Homogeneity Couples With Organizational Climate In Public School Environments, Steven R. Peterson Jul 2026

How Cultural Homogeneity Couples With Organizational Climate In Public School Environments, Steven R. Peterson

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This quantitative study examines how cultural homogeneity influences teachers’ perceptions of school climate in Indiana public schools. Grounded in systems thinking and organizational theory, the study analyzes how shared values and norms shape teachers’ responses to leadership practices and stakeholder demands. Data were collected from educators using the School Culture Survey and a custom scenario-based climate instrument capturing reactions to organizational challenges. Statistical analyses explored relationships between cultural homogeneity and teachers’ perceptions of stability, workload, and adaptive capacity. Results indicate that alignment in key cultural dimensions—particularly Collaborative Leadership—significantly shapes climate experiences, while overall homogeneity alone does not predict workload pressures. …

Designing Functional Nanolaminates From Complex Atomic Layer Deposition Reactions, Joseph Joel Muhanga Jul 2026

Designing Functional Nanolaminates From Complex Atomic Layer Deposition Reactions, Joseph Joel Muhanga

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) enables precise cycle by cycle control over film thickness and composition. This kind of control is ideal for the engineering of functional nanolaminate coatings with tailored optical properties. Since ALD synthesized composite films are deposited as discrete, stratified layers and not as homogeneously intermixed solids, it is not yet clear when such composites can be be treated with the effective medium approximation (EMA). EMA is simplification that is important to the design of mixed oxide coatings. This dissertation addresses that question using a model system, and then asks whether the same approach can be used to …

Survey On Learning-Based Dynamic Fault Localization: From Traditional Machine Learning To Large Language Models, Chunyan Liu, Yan Lei, Huan Xie, Jinping Wang, Yue Yu, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Learning-based dynamic fault localization techniques play a crucial role in the field of software engineering. These techniques dynamically execute test cases to meticulously extract useful knowledge from the execution information in the program, with the aim of identifying fault locations by leveraging machine learning, deep learning, and large language models. Currently, there is already a flourishing body of research that is intensely focused on learning-based dynamic fault localization. Research literature can be categorized into two main aspects for learning-based dynamic fault localization: data-based enhancements (i.e., the datasets) and model-based enhancements (i.e., the suspiciousness algorithms). Thus, we conduct an extensive literature …

Scattered Hypothesis Generation For Open-Ended Event Forecasting, He Chang, Zhulin Tao, Lifang Yang, Xianglin Huang, Yunshan Ma Jul 2026

Scattered Hypothesis Generation For Open-Ended Event Forecasting, He Chang, Zhulin Tao, Lifang Yang, Xianglin Huang, Yunshan Ma

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Despite the importance of open-ended event forecasting for risk management, current LLM-based methods predominantly target only the most probable outcomes, neglecting the intrinsic uncertainty of real-world events. To bridge this gap, we advance open-ended event forecasting from pinpoint forecasting to scatter forecasting by introducing the proxy task of hypothesis generation. This paradigm aims to generate an inclusive and diverse set of hypotheses that broadly cover the space of plausible future events. To this end, we propose SCATTER, a reinforcement learning framework that jointly optimizes inclusiveness and diversity of the hypothesis. Specifically, we design a novel hybrid reward that consists of …

Harnessing Tio2-Based Nanofilaments: A Pathway To Enhanced Optoelectronic Performance In Dye-Sensitized And Perovskite Light Harvesters, Zahraa Ismail, Tarek A. Elmelegy, Hassan Nageh, Sameh Abdellatif

Mechanical Engineering

This study explores the integration of TiO2-based nanofilaments into dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and perovskite solar cells (PSCs) to enhance their optoelectronic performance. Despite the advancements in one-dimensional lepidocrocite TiO2 nanofilaments, there remains a significant gap in understanding their optical scattering mechanisms and dual applicability in both types of solar cells. We synthesized TiO2 nanofilaments and compared their performance to conventional P25 TiO2 in terms of morphology, electrical, and optical properties. The results indicate that the DSSC utilizing nanofilaments achieved a short-circuit current density of 8.2 mA/cm² and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.9%, compared to 7.1 mA/cm² and …

The Due Diligence That Investors In Family Businesses Must Not Skip, Yuanto Kusnadi, Kenneth T. Goh Jul 2026

The Due Diligence That Investors In Family Businesses Must Not Skip, Yuanto Kusnadi, Kenneth T. Goh

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) Yuanto Kusnadi and Kenneth Goh, Director of Private Wealth Management at UOB Kay Hian, opined that minority shareholders should understand the specific risks highlighted in company filings. They noted that the greatest risk of investing in a family-controlled company lies not only in its business performance, but also in how controlling families exercise their influence. While Singapore's regulatory framework provides safeguards for minority shareholders, these protections are not foolproof. However, they require significant transactions to be disclosed and give minority shareholders a voice, provided they review the circulars and exercise their …

Personal Goal Facilitation, Burnout And Work Engagement: The Role Of Self-Discrepancy, Jacinth Jia Xin Tan, Bek Wuay Tang Jul 2026

Personal Goal Facilitation, Burnout And Work Engagement: The Role Of Self-Discrepancy, Jacinth Jia Xin Tan, Bek Wuay Tang

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

Employees who perceive greater personal goal facilitation through work (PGFW) experience lower burnout and higher work engagement. This research examined whether self-discrepancies and emotional experiences explain these relationships across two cross-sectional studies involving a nationally representative sample of working adults (Study 1; N = 889) and a sample of public school teachers (Study 2; N = 228) in Singapore. Participants listed personal goals and rated how much their jobs facilitated these goals, alongside measures of self-discrepancy, emotions, burnout, and engagement. Across both samples, higher PGFW predicted lower burnout and greater engagement. These associations were consistently explained by lower ideal self-discrepancy …

Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, systematic searches were carried out across five published literature databases and two supplementary search sources. Title and abstract screening, followed by full-text eligibility assessment, were conducted independently by three authors. The same three authors then performed data extraction …

A 10-Minute Walk From The Mrt. But For Whom?, Paulin Tay Straughan, Yi Wen (Chen Yiwen) Tan, Wensi Lim Jul 2026

A 10-Minute Walk From The Mrt. But For Whom?, Paulin Tay Straughan, Yi Wen (Chen Yiwen) Tan, Wensi Lim

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

They highlighted that as people age, mobility naturally declines, adding that the convenient shorthand such as a “10-minute walk” to define accessibility is ultimately a social construct – one that must be grounded in lived realities and evidence. They noted that ageing in place is not just the ability to remain at home as one transitions into later life – it is about living in an environment that fosters attachment, continuity and well-being, which requires both the built and social environments to be supportive. Responses must be guided by solid evidence – through ongoing conversations with those whose needs we …

The results are published on the court’s website and circulated to other stakeholders. In the post-exercise survey, participating …

Online Planning Of Power Flows For Power Systems Against Bushfires Using Spatial Context, Jianyu Xu, Qiuzhuang Sun, Yang Yang, Huadong Mo, Daoyi Dong Jul 2026

Online Planning Of Power Flows For Power Systems Against Bushfires Using Spatial Context, Jianyu Xu, Qiuzhuang Sun, Yang Yang, Huadong Mo, Daoyi Dong

Research Collection College of Integrative Studies

A power station or transmission line can be affected due to bushfires, increasing operation costs. We study a fundamental but challenging problem of planning the optimal power flow (OPF) for power systems under bushfires. We develop a model to capture the stochastic nature of bushfire spread based on Moore’s neighborhood model and propose an online optimization modeling framework to sequentially plan power flows in the electricity network. Our framework assumes that bushfire spread is non-stationary over time and that the spread and containment probabilities are unknown. To address these challenges, we develop a contextual online learning algorithm that treats the …

Dragging The Self: Manifesting Genderqueer Identity As A Drag King Performer And Teacher, Jasmine Mcmasters

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates drag performance as a site of gender identity formation, pedagogical practice, and arts-based inquiry through a critical autoethnographic methodology. Drawing on my lived experience as the drag king, Jas Mania, I investigate how drag functions as a dialogical relationship between performance and self, facilitating an ongoing exploration of my identity as a queer, non-binary artist and educator. Situated within theories of gender performativity, queer phenomenology, queer temporality, and performative pedagogy, this research considers how embodied performance generates knowledge that extends beyond the stage and into everyday life. Using improvisatory arts-based methods of reflective journaling and performance production, …

Purifai: Detecting And Fixing Search-Induced Distortions In Web-Augmented Llms, Guoqing Wang, Zhao Zhang, Zeyu Sun, Xiaofei Xie, Yizhou Chen, Yanchao Tan, Dan Hao Jul 2026

Purifai: Detecting And Fixing Search-Induced Distortions In Web-Augmented Llms, Guoqing Wang, Zhao Zhang, Zeyu Sun, Xiaofei Xie, Yizhou Chen, Yanchao Tan, Dan Hao

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

As Large Language Models (LLMs) increasingly serve as interfaces for proprietary data (e.g., enterprise knowledge bases, legal statutes), ensuring their fidelity to trusted internal information is paramount. While integrating real-time web search can enhance model utility, it introduces a critical vulnerability: the ingestion of conflicting, misleading, or hallucinated content from the open web can override the model's adherence to its verified internal knowledge. We define this failure mode as search-induced distortion, a significant risk in high-stakes domains where the internal knowledge base serves as the absolute ground truth. To address this challenge, we present PurifAI, a proactive, model-agnostic, cache-level purification system …

Verbalizing Lightgcn: Direct Learning Of Textual Representations From User-Item Interaction Graph Via Llms, Manh-Khanh Ngo Huu, Hady Wirawan Lauw Jul 2026

Verbalizing Lightgcn: Direct Learning Of Textual Representations From User-Item Interaction Graph Via Llms, Manh-Khanh Ngo Huu, Hady Wirawan Lauw

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this work, we propose VerbaLightGCN, a novel LLM-based recommendation framework that integrates the semantic understanding of LLMs with user-item interaction modeling. Traditional collaborative filtering (CF) models typically embed user and item IDs into a latent space to capture interaction signals. However, pretrained LLMs cannot natively interpret these learned embeddings. To bridge this gap, VerbaLightGCN adopts a CF-as-text paradigm, in which collaborative signals are encoded in textual form and directly learned from the user–item interaction graph, and are then combined with semantic information to construct user and item profiles that function as latent embeddings. Inspired by LightGCN, our method retains …

Generation-Augmented Video Corpus Moment Retrieval, Mingjin Kuai, Qianyin Xiao, Juncheng Li, Jin Peng, Lizi Liao, Wei Ji Jul 2026

Generation-Augmented Video Corpus Moment Retrieval, Mingjin Kuai, Qianyin Xiao, Juncheng Li, Jin Peng, Lizi Liao, Wei Ji

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Video Corpus Moment Retrieval (VCMR) requires models to efficiently retrieve and precisely locate specific moments relevant to natural language queries within a massive, untrimmed video corpus. However, existing discriminative approaches typically rely on shallow visual-textual feature matching mechanisms, which often struggle to capture fine-grained semantic differences. To address this limitation, we propose Video-GAR, a novel framework that reframes the conventional retrieval task from superficial matching to generative understanding, positing that the capability for query reconstruction evidences deep semantic comprehension. Specifically, Video-GAR orchestrates three synergistic components: To overcome the computational efficiency bottleneck, we construct a Bi-Mamba backbone that leverages the linear …

Maternal Health And Sociodemographic Characteristics Influence Infant Growth To 24 Months In The Tunza Mwana Cohort: A Prospective Cohort Study, David Taylor Hendrixson, Mark J Manary, Et Al. Jul 2026

Maternal Health And Sociodemographic Characteristics Influence Infant Growth To 24 Months In The Tunza Mwana Cohort: A Prospective Cohort Study, David Taylor Hendrixson, Mark J Manary, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Upstream pathways influencing child growth are complex. Weight-for-age z-score (WAZ) reflects both ponderal and linear growth and can identify children at high mortality risk. Using data from a prospective cohort of 326 mother-child pairs in Kenya, we evaluated whether associations between maternal exposures and child growth outcomes in early and later childhood. Growth trajectories were examined using locally weighted scatterplot smoothing and piecewise linear mixed-effect models with a knot at age 3 months. Poisson regression models examined associations between maternal characteristics and child underweight (WAZ <  -2) and stunting (LAZ <  -2) before and after 3 months. Mean WAZ increased to a peak at 3 months before declining steadily through 24 months. Lower maternal education (adjusted β [aβ] -0.18; 95% CI: -0.24, -0.13), household crowding (aβ -0.2; 95% CI: -0.28, -0.11), lower wealth quintile (aβ -0.04; 95% CI: -0.06, -0.02) and multiparity (aβ -0.16; 95% CI: -0.23, -0.1) were associated with lower monthly rate of change in WAZ prior to age 3 months. Younger maternal age was associated with an increased monthly rate of change in WAZ (aβ = 0.13; 95% CI: 0.08, 0.18) before 3 months and decreased monthly WAZ (aβ -0.02; 95% CI: -0.03, -0.01) after 3 months. Preterm birth was associated with increased risk of underweight in both periods (aRR 2.77; 95% CI: 1.39-5.50). Maternal mental health, intimate partner violence and adverse childhood experiences were not significantly associated with child growth. Maternal nutritional, socio-economic and household-level factors shape early growth, emphasising the need for cross-sectoral programs to support growth.

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations

The contemporary workforce is characterized by ongoing organizational change, requiring individuals to demonstrate adaptability and the capacity to lead within evolving conditions. Institutions of higher education increasingly emphasize leadership development as a mechanism for preparing students for these demands; however, limited empirical research has examined how participation in formal co-curricular undergraduate leadership roles relates to students’ readiness to engage with organizational change. This study addresses the gap by examining the relationship between leadership self-efficacy and resistance to change among undergraduate student leaders.

Guided by the Leadership Identity Development (LID) model, this quantitative study employed a non-experimental, correlational design. Data were …

Procedural Justice And Instructional Alignment In Body-Worn Camera Policies: A Comparative Policy Analysis Of Large U.S. Urban Police Departments, Michael A. O'Connor Jul 2026

Procedural Justice And Instructional Alignment In Body-Worn Camera Policies: A Comparative Policy Analysis Of Large U.S. Urban Police Departments, Michael A. O'Connor

Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University

This study examined how written Body-Worn Camera (BWC) policies in large U.S. urban police departments operationalize Procedural Justice (PJ) through instructional alignment and how those policies shape expectations for officer training. Policy analysis showed that all departments required BWC activation during key encounters such as traffic stops and arrests and included some form of supervisory review. However, substantial variation existed in policies governing data retention, citizen notification, pre-report viewing safeguards and documentation requirements, and disciplinary guidance. These inconsistencies were most evident in the PJ dimensions of neutrality and voice, particularly where policies permitted pre-report viewing without consistent documentation requirements and …

Analysis Of Clinical Health Worker Notes With Explainable Artificial Intelligence For A Better Perspective In Preventing Readmission, Christopher Scott Klimp Jul 2026

Analysis Of Clinical Health Worker Notes With Explainable Artificial Intelligence For A Better Perspective In Preventing Readmission, Christopher Scott Klimp

Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University

Emergency Department (ED) readmissions remain a major challenge for healthcare systems, affecting both patient care quality and financial costs. Most prediction models depend largely on structured data from clinical tools that assign points to a small set of predefined factors – such as comorbidities, previous hospital visits, and behaviors such as smoking and drinking – and then sum those points to produce an overall risk score. These point-based tools leave out important information from Social Determinants of Health and a wealth of information from Community Health Workers (Community health workers (CHWs), trusted members of a community who help connect people …

Using Recommender Systems To Help Revitalize Local News, Payam Pourashraf Jul 2026

Using Recommender Systems To Help Revitalize Local News, Payam Pourashraf

Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University

Local news outlets have experienced steep declines in readership as national and global online news sources have expanded and consolidated audience attention. Because many local media companies rely primarily on subscription-based business models, they must increase user engagement and provide clearer value to local subscribers. Personalization and recommender systems offer one promising path toward this goal. However, many recommender systems assume that a user’s past behavior can be summarized in a single unified profile. In practice, preferences are often context-dependent: the same person may prefer different content depending on geography, time, task, or situation. Local news offers a socially important …
