The Role Of Animals In Pediatric Occupational Therapy Telehealth Interventions: A Survey Of Therapist Perspectives., Macy Burr, Catherine Le
Occupational Therapy Collection
AIMS: Animal-assisted interventions (AAI) incorporate animals in health, education, or human services to improve participant health and well-being. AAI can decrease stress, increase happiness, and improve motor skills. During the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual AAI programs became more common. Telehealth also became more prevalent in occupational therapy. This study explored the perceptions of occupational therapy (OT) practitioners regarding including animals in telehealth OT pediatric interventions.
METHODS: Survey responses were collected from 18 occupational therapists who have included animals in OT pediatric telehealth interventions.
RESULTS: Most participants agreed that incorporating animals into telehealth enhanced the therapeutic experience for their clients, as they …

Today’s force still has plenty to learn about counterinsurgency from Operation Desert Storm. John Nagl’s Knife Fights: A Memoir of Modern War in Theory and Practice “a book about counterinsurgency and its journey from the far periphery of US military doctrine to its center, for better and, some would argue, for worse.” The reviewer notes, Nagl’s work “provides a tangible example of the impact junior leaders can have on the service.”

First Among Equals: The Lived Experiences Of College Presidents Of Color At Pwis, Kevin L. Booker Jr.
JWU Dissertations & Theses
College presidents serve as key members of a campus administration, but college presidents of color are in the minority, representing only 25% of all campus CEOs (Melidona et al., 2023). The lack of access to higher education for people of color, historically coupled with systemic oppression and racism in the United States, has created an unwelcoming and exclusive environment on many college campuses today (Bitar et al., 2022; Pulley, 2022). As progress is made toward more racially inclusive communities, college presidents of color at Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs) stand uniquely positioned to drive transformative change and expand opportunities for all …

Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers
Background/Objectives: Accurate patient-specific dosimetry is essential for optimizing radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT), but current tools lack validation in clinically realistic conditions. This work aimed to develop a workflow for designing and fabricating patient-derived, organ-realistic RPT phantoms and evaluate their feasibility for commissioning patient-specific RPT radioactivity quantification. Methods: We used computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of representative patients, computer-aided design, and in-house 3D printing technology to design and fabricate anthropomorphic kidney and parotid phantoms with realistic organ spacing, anatomically correct orientation, and surrounding tissue heterogeneities. We evaluated the fabrication process via geometric verification (i.e., volume comparisons) and leak testing …

Modalities, Anti-Modalities, And The Social Psychology Of Persuasive Constitutional Argument, Asma T. Uddin
Modalities, Anti-Modalities, And The Social Psychology Of Persuasive Constitutional Argument, Asma T. Uddin
Catholic University Law Review
Constitutional argumentation traditionally relies on modalities such as text, history, doctrine, and structure. However, the exclusion of certain “anti-modalities”—such as policy arguments, fundamentalist views, and emotional appeals—can create a “resonance gap” between legal reasoning and public understanding. This paper explores how social science insights, particularly from cultural cognition theory (CCT) and moral foundations theory (MFT), can help bridge this gap by guiding the strategic incorporation of pathos and moral intuitions into constitutional arguments. Techniques such as self-affirmation, expressive overdetermination, and aporetic reasoning can make opinions more persuasive and inclusive without compromising legal integrity. The paper examines how these strategies can …
The Challenges Facing Academic Freedom And Free Speech, Keith E. Whittington
The Challenges Facing Academic Freedom And Free Speech, Keith E. Whittington
Catholic University Law Review
There are growing challenges to free speech and academic freedom on American college campuses. There is pressure from both the political left and the political right to suppress controversial speech on campus, and there are calls to restrict speech that come both from members of the campus community and from those beyond the campus gates. In this difficult environment, it is essential that academics both understand the principles of academic freedom and campus free speech and work to advocate for them.

Re-Evaluating Fulton V. City Of Philadelphia: A “Narrow” “Wisp” Of A Decision Or Free Exercise “Bedrock?”, Mark Rienzi
Catholic University Law Review
In Fulton v. City of Philadelphia (2021), a unanimous Supreme Court held that Philadelphia violated the Free Exercise Clause by excluding Catholic Social Services from participating in its foster program because CSS would not certify same-sex couples. Both supporters and critics of the Court’s decision publicly characterized the decision as “narrow” and noted that Philadelphia (and other governments) can easily sidestep Fulton and continue excluding religious providers from foster and adoption programs.
Four years later, the evidence shows that Fulton is anything but narrow. In Philadelphia and in other jurisdictions, Fulton has played a strong role in ending litigation against …
Prenatal Personhood, State Duties, And Congress’S Abortion Power Under The Fourteenth Amendment, David R. Upham
Prenatal Personhood, State Duties, And Congress’S Abortion Power Under The Fourteenth Amendment, David R. Upham
Catholic University Law Review
Many antiabortion jurists have contended that by its original meaning, the Fourteenth Amendment not only (1) recognizes the personhood of prenatal human beings, but also (2) requires states to have and enforce the antiabortion laws necessary to the equal protection of these prenatal persons, and even (3) empowers Congress to pass remedial antiabortion laws where the state fail to protect such persons.
In this essay, I will contend that the Amendment does indeed recognize the personhood of prenatal human beings, but largely leaves with the states the authority to determine the scope of the protection to be afforded such persons. …
The Final Frontier Of Federal Power: Understanding, Defining, And Enforcing “Necessary And Proper” To Enhance The General Welfare And Limit Federal Power, Thomas Ralph
Catholic University Law Review
This comment explores the long and inconsistent history of the Necessary and Proper Clause and its unique role as both a grant of power to Congress and a limit on the outer reach of the federal government. The federal government is in theory one of limited powers; however, this promise of the Constitution cannot be truly recognized without developing a robust framework for applying the Necessary and Proper Clause as a reliable source of federal power. After establishing the need for a framework, this comment provides five judicial decision rules that can be applied by trial and appellate courts to …

Dictating The Divine: Revisiting Authorship, Intention, And Authority From Sacred Texts To Generative Ai, James Hutson, W. Travis Mcmaken
Faculty Scholarship
This article interrogates the historical practice of mediated authorship in religious texts to draw critical parallels with contemporary debates surrounding generative artificial intelligence (AI), specifically large language models (LLMs). By juxtaposing the mediated authorship of sacred texts, such as the Hebrew Bible and New Testament—where figures like the Apostle Paul dictated theological concepts to scribes who infused these directives with their interpretive insights—with the generative processes of LLMs, this research underscores the shared dynamics of co-constructed authorship across historical and technological contexts. Employing interdisciplinary methodologies from art history, textual studies, and reception theory, as well as theological and biblical studies, …

Introduction: Hemophilia A (HA) patients (HAPs) with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-class-II (HLAII) haplotype DRB1*15:01/DQB1*06:02, and thus antigen presenting cells which express HLAII β-polypeptide chains that form heterodimers of DR15- and DQ6-serotypes, respectively, have an increased risk of developing factor (F)VIII inhibitors (FEIs)—neutralizing antibodies against the therapeutic-FVIII-proteins (tFVIIIs) infused to prevent/arrest bleeding. As DRB1*15:01 and DQB1*06:02 exist in strong linkage disequilibrium, association analysis cannot determine which is the actual risk allele.
Methods: To establish the true risk allele of this haplotype, we analyzed the tFVIII-derived peptides (tFVIII-dPs) bound to either the DR or DQ molecules that comprise the individual HLAII …

Awareness Of Parental Trauma History And Intergenerational Trauma In Second Generation Trauma Survivors, Tram Nguyen
Honors Scholar Theses
The relationship between awareness of intergenerational trauma and engagement in preventive health screenings for pre-diabetes, diabetes, and hypertension among second and third-generation Cambodian, Lao, and Vietnamese trauma survivors was explored through survey using Chi-Squared and Fisher Exact tests. The analysis aimed to determine whether trauma awareness influences participation in health screenings. Primary analyses revealed no statistically significant association between trauma awareness and preventive health behaviors. However, secondary analyses highlighted the importance of parental health status, the quality of the parent-child relationship, and generational status in shaping health behaviors. Individuals aware of their parents' health conditions were more likely to engage …

OBJECTIVE: Understanding the regulation and function of plant genes is essential for addressing the challenges faced by modern agriculture. Plant transformation, in conjunction with fluorescence microscopy, offers a powerful approach to investigate the dynamic behavior of plant genes and the proteins they encode. We previously developed a set of Gateway-compatible tissue-specific plant transformation vectors. In this paper we aim to expand the toolkit of vectors available for Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and protoplast transfection.
RESULTS: Here, we introduce new Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation vectors by introducing additional fluorophores to create the pJRA vector series. Additionally, we introduce the pLCS series of vectors, …
