Culture And Sustainability: Understanding The Roles Of Values, Norms, And Cultural Tightness In Sustainable Consumption Behaviour, Sook Sum Au

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

The past decade has seen an increased interest in environmental sustainability. Yet, few studies have examined the relationship between culture, sustainable consumption intention (SCI), and sustainable consumption behaviour (SCB). This study addresses this gap by examining the roles of values, norms and CTL in an integrative model to predict SCI and SCB. This study focuses on four types of values that are considered most relevant in environmental research (biospheric, altruistic, egoistic, and hedonic). Drawing on data from a sample across the 10 most culturally "tight" and 10 most culturally "loose" states in the US, this study applied multilevel modelling to …

Entrepreneurial Orientation In Family Firms: The Role Of Intergenerational Dynamics, Firm Size, And External Working Experience, Wai Sam Kong Apr 2025

Entrepreneurial Orientation In Family Firms: The Role Of Intergenerational Dynamics, Firm Size, And External Working Experience, Wai Sam Kong

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

Family firms are key contributors to the global economy, yet their long-term entrepreneurial sustainability remains uncertain, particularly during intergenerational transitions. While entrepreneurial orientation (EO) has been studied widely in general business contexts, the interplay between intergenerational dynamics and EO remains underexplored in family firms. This study addresses the existing gap by methodically studying how family-specific factors influence EO, thereby contributing a novel perspective to entrepreneurship and family business research. Drawing on Constructivist Learning Theory, we conceptualise EO not as a static firm attribute but as a developmental process shaped by intergenerational interactions, governance structures, and external influences. Using a multi-method …

Divided Motherhood: Narrative Within The Domestic Vessel, Jacqueline Denaway Apr 2025

Divided Motherhood: Narrative Within The Domestic Vessel, Jacqueline Denaway

Masters Theses

This research explores the story of motherhood through that of art, craft, and the domestic vessel. It analyzes how the installation, Motherhood Divided, can be viewed as an exemplification of the conflicted divide inherent within contemporary motherhood. I posit this divide to be a result of the tension created between the impossibility of the current normative maternal ideal of intensive motherhood, and its contradiction to that of the private hidden realities of mothering.

The historical origin of intensive mothering is explored, along with its impact on current societal maternal standards. These concepts are juxtaposed with the art of Camille Henrot …

Exploring Ballast Water As A Vector For The Spread Of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease, Kathleen Beadling Apr 2025

Exploring Ballast Water As A Vector For The Spread Of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease, Kathleen Beadling

Masters Theses

Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD) has led to high mortality rates of reef-building coral species throughout the greater Caribbean region since it was first documented off the coast of Miami in 2014. The pathogen is currently unknown, but it is suspected that ballast water discharge is a vector of disease transmission. As a step towards better understanding SCTLD transmission, this study aimed to identify locations of ballast water exchange that coincide with outbreaks of the disease. Spatial and temporal patterns of SCTLD outbreaks and ballast water exchanges conducted within 50 nautical miles of coastlines were explored using Density-Based Spatial …

Analyzing The Resilience Of Infrastructure-Based Vs. Camera-Based Lane Detection In Autonomous Vehicles, Pritesh Yashaswi Patil Apr 2025

Analyzing The Resilience Of Infrastructure-Based Vs. Camera-Based Lane Detection In Autonomous Vehicles, Pritesh Yashaswi Patil

Masters Theses

Traditional autonomous vehicle perception subsystems that use on-board sensors have the drawbacks of high computational load and data duplication. Infrastructure-based sensors, which can provide high-quality information without the computational burden and data duplication, are an alternative to traditional autonomous vehicle perception subsystems. However, these technologies are still in the early stages of development and have not been extensively evaluated for lane detection system performance. Therefore, there is a lack of quantitative data on their performance relative to traditional perception methods, especially during hazardous scenarios, such as lane line occlusion, sensor failure, and environmental obstructions. This need is addressed by evaluating …

Social Support As A Buffer Of The Association Between Intimate Partner Violence And Anxiety Among Sexual And Gender Minorities Assigned Female At Birth, Shariell T. Crosby Apr 2025

Social Support As A Buffer Of The Association Between Intimate Partner Violence And Anxiety Among Sexual And Gender Minorities Assigned Female At Birth, Shariell T. Crosby

Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University

Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals experience similar to higher rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) compared to the general population (Basile et al., 2020; Whitfield et al., 2021). Additionally, exposure to IPV has been linked to negative mental health outcomes including anxiety (Charak et al., 2019; Henry et al., 2021; Reuter et al., 2017; Strauss et al., 2020). One possible factor that may buffer against the negative effects of IPV on anxiety is social support. The theoretical model of the buffering effect of social support suggests that social support may “buffer” against the harmful mental health effects of stressful/traumatic …

Scenes Of Self: Redressing Patriarchy Ii, C. Rose Smith Apr 2025

Scenes Of Self: Redressing Patriarchy Ii, C. Rose Smith

Theses

Drawing together self-portraits and photographic documents, Scenes of Self: Redressing Patriarchy II threads a narrative in black and white on the underpinnings of elitism in US history and culture—a history dating back to the 19th century—of an emerging wealthy economy sustained by the slave market and commodities of its production. A meticulous interpretation of a historicized past eliding with the future, this thesis charts a path toward ancestral recollection to critique the livelihoods of merchants who were also enslavers. This thesis takes up the concept of Afro-surrealism (a movement led by Black artists of the 1970s concerned with the future-past) …

Towards Robust Deep Learning For Medical Imaging With Limited And Noisy Labeled Data, Bidur Khanal Apr 2025

Towards Robust Deep Learning For Medical Imaging With Limited And Noisy Labeled Data, Bidur Khanal

Theses

Deep learning has emerged as a powerful tool in medical imaging, assisting healthcare professionals with several decision-making tasks, such as disease diagnosis, surgical intervention, and treatment planning. Supervised deep learning methods typically require large amounts of high-quality labeled data for training. However, acquiring high-quality labeled data in the medical domain is challenging due to factors such as the high cost of expert annotation and the presence of label noise, often due to inherent user/expert annotation variability. Models trained on limited or noisy labeled data suffer from poor performance due to overfitting, thus reducing their generalizability and trustworthiness for medical applications. …

Microphysics Regimes Due To Haze–Cloud Interactions: Cloud Oscillation And Cloud Collapse, Fan Yang, Hamed F. Sadi, Raymond Shaw, Fabian Hoffmann, Pei Hou, Aaron Wang, Mikhail Ovchinnikov Apr 2025

Microphysics Regimes Due To Haze–Cloud Interactions: Cloud Oscillation And Cloud Collapse, Fan Yang, Hamed F. Sadi, Raymond Shaw, Fabian Hoffmann, Pei Hou, Aaron Wang, Mikhail Ovchinnikov

Michigan Tech Publications

It is known that aqueous haze particles can be activated into cloud droplets in a supersaturated environment. However, haze–cloud interactions have not been fully explored, partly because haze particles are not represented in most cloud-resolving models. Here, we conduct a series of large-eddy simulations (LESs) of a cloud in a convection chamber using a haze-capable Eulerian-based bin microphysics scheme to explore haze–cloud interactions over a wide range of aerosol injection rates. Results show that the cloud is in a slow microphysics regime at low aerosol injection rates, where the cloud responds slowly to an environmental change and droplet deactivation is …

The Idea Of Inclusivity: The Fallacy Of School Choice, Harleigh Summerville Apr 2025

The Idea Of Inclusivity: The Fallacy Of School Choice, Harleigh Summerville

Arkansas Law Notes

As calls for reform in public education grow, students with disabilities have become the poster children for a failing system that is not equipped to handle students’ varying needs. With the number of children receiving services for learning disabilities growing, some argue that the current system not only is failing to provide students with appropriate education but is actively causing harm. Issues gaining adequate funding, disparities in educational access to racial minorities, and failure to adhere to federal mandates have made it difficult for public schools to meet the individualized needs of all students, particularly students with disabilities. One example …

Falling Women And Empty Skies: Returning To 9/11 In Fiction By Daniel Alarcon, Claire Vaye Watkins, And Otessa Moshfegh, Jeffrey Gonzalez Apr 2025

Falling Women And Empty Skies: Returning To 9/11 In Fiction By Daniel Alarcon, Claire Vaye Watkins, And Otessa Moshfegh, Jeffrey Gonzalez

Department of English Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Daniel Alarcon’s “Absence,” Claire Vaye Watkins’s “Rondine al Nido,” and Otessa Moshfegh’s My Year of Rest and Relaxation are American works of fiction that save their most substantive commentary on the 9/11 terror attacks for their final page, despite each text largely focusing on other matters. This gesture illustrates the works calling upon and questioning the gravitas afforded to the tragedy of September 11. Reviewing the reception history of 9/11 fiction and making comparisons to canonical 9/11 narratives, I argue that these texts complicate these canonical and criticial frameworks: they treat 9/11’s significance as a variable, rather than a constant.

New Approach Single Valued Neutrosophic Sets For Teaching Quality Challenges Evaluation In College Public English Broad Impacts, Xiao Ma Apr 2025

New Approach Single Valued Neutrosophic Sets For Teaching Quality Challenges Evaluation In College Public English Broad Impacts, Xiao Ma

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Previous research on teaching quality challenges in college public English has relied on methods that accept vague or fuzzy inputs. Single-valued neutrosophic Sets (SVNSs) are used to handle uncertain or unclear expert assessments by allowing both precise and imprecise data to be analyzed together. This approach ensures that valuable information is not lost during the evaluation process. To improve decision-making in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems, this study introduces a new integrated framework that combines the EDAS method with the MEREC method for criteria weight computation under the SVNS environment. The MEREC method is applied to determine the importance of each …

Rethinking Reverse Logistics: Neutrosophic Strategies For Warehouse Management Challenges, Thanh- Ngan Le, Quoc-Hieu Phan, Phi Hung Nguyen, Lan-Anh Thi Nguyen

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Implementing warehouse management platforms (WMPs) in Vietnam's smart reverse logistics (SRL) sector faces numerous barriers, hindering operational efficiency and competitiveness. This study develops a robust multi-stage decision-making framework to identify, analyze, and address these barriers, filling a critical research gap in SRL practices. The proposed model integrates Neutrosophic Sets (NS) for managing uncertainties in expert evaluations with the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to examine cause-and-effect relationships among barriers. Additionally, the Neutrosophic Combined Compromise Solution (NS COCOSO) method ranks solutions for overcoming these challenges. In the first stage, key barriers—such as insufficient strategic planning, lack of expertise in …

Isotopic Properties Of Neutrosophic Soft Quasigroup And Its Application In Decision-Making, Benard Osoba, Oyebo Tunde Yakub, Abdulkareem Abdulafeez Olalekan, Oyewole Oluwapamilerin, Adenibuyan Micheal Tokunbo, Oluwatobi Balogun, Adekola Lanrewaju Olumide

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

A Q-neutrosophic soft quasigroup (ϕ Q, A) represents a novel mathematical framework designed to address scenarios characterized by indeterminate occurrences. This paper seeks to extend the classical examination of quasigroups to include Q-neutrosophic soft quasigroups. It provides a thorough investigation into isotopism, homomorphism, isomorphism, and the direct product concerning the hybrid concept of neutrosophic soft sets under a non-associative structure. This research expands the concept of the Q-set to a groupoid, which facilitates the development of an algorithm for Q-neutrosophic soft quasigroups. The definitions of isotopism and homomorphism for Q-neutrosophic soft quasigroups are introduced, revealing that every isotope of a …

Expanded Triangular Fuzzy Neutrosophic Numbers For Safety Risk Evaluation Of Urban Rail Transit Engineering: An Innovative Method For Better Risk Assessment, Xiuli Liu Apr 2025

Expanded Triangular Fuzzy Neutrosophic Numbers For Safety Risk Evaluation Of Urban Rail Transit Engineering: An Innovative Method For Better Risk Assessment, Xiuli Liu

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Safety assessment of urban rail transit (URT) operations plays a crucial role not only in shaping passenger travel choices but also in urban development planning. The findings of such assessments are valuable for both passengers and transport operators. In this study, we propose an integrated multi-stage evaluation framework to assess URT operations from a safety perspective. This framework considers decision-makers' (DMs') risk preferences and the uncertainty of available information. We employ two key methods: the CRITIC method to determine the weights of evaluation criteria and the MOORA method to rank the alternatives. Both methods operate within the framework of triangular …

Landscape Design Quality Evaluation Of Abandoned Coal Mine Sites Using Single-Valued Triangular Neutrosophic Numbers, Ye Liang

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This research uses Single-Valued Triangular Neutrosophic Numbers (SVTNNs) to address uncertainty and vague problems in the Abandoned Coal Mine Sites evaluation. By adjusting the subjective assessments, Single-Valued Triangular Neutrosophic Numbers handle degrees of affiliation and disassociation as well as additional unclear degrees of neutral opinion. The WENSLO approach is used to compute criteria weights. To develop a hybrid model that handles ambiguity more adaptable, this study combines the WENSLO method with the Single Valued Triangular Neutrosophic Numbers-based REGIME strategy. In conclusion, we used these methods to confirm the precision of the calculations made using the suggested approach. The fundamental idea …
