“Force Majeure”, Extension Of Time Clauses And The Prevention Principle In Shipbuilding Contracts, Zoran Tasic
Seatific Journal
Under English law, it is entirely up to the contract parties to agree on “force majeure” events that are beyond the builder’s control. Under an old English law principle known as the “prevention principle”, no party to a contract should be allowed to benefit from its own failure to perform. In the context of shipbuilding contracts, this principle should give protection to a shipyard in the case of delays in the delivery of a vessel that are caused by the buyer’s defaults. It is the builder’s fundamental duty to deliver the vessel to the buyer on the delivery date set …

A Domestic Waste Heat Recovery System: Mathematical Model Of A Green Kitchen Module, Stefano Maria Spagocci
A Domestic Waste Heat Recovery System: Mathematical Model Of A Green Kitchen Module, Stefano Maria Spagocci
Seatific Journal
A lumped parameter model of a domestic heat storage/recovery system is described. This is a typical green kitchen application, where the heat dissipated by kitchen appliances is stored in suitable materials by temperature rise and/or phase transitions. To this aim, sensible heat materials and phase change materials are considered. Based on the model, a number of design solutions are proposed, making use of fixed beds or shell-and-tube heat exchangers, where heat is stored in spheres or cylinders made up of (or encapsulating) suitable materials. The best solution (a PCM-based shell-and-tube exchanger) corresponds to ~50×50×25 cm, ~30 kg modules.
Low-Computational Adaptive Mpc Algorithmization Strategy For Over And Undershoots Instantaneous Water Heaters Stability, Ismael Ehtiwesh
Low-Computational Adaptive Mpc Algorithmization Strategy For Over And Undershoots Instantaneous Water Heaters Stability, Ismael Ehtiwesh
Seatific Journal
Tankless gas Hot Water users' comforting perception is severely affected by sudden changes in temperature apart from the desired temperature. The instability of the water temperature with overshoots and undershoots is the most common disadvantage that appears mainly because of the sudden changes in the water flow demanded by users and the response delays inherent to the heating system. Classical controllers for heat cells have difficulties in responding to temperature instability in a timely manner because they do not have the capacity to anticipate the effects of sudden variations in water flow rate. The model predictive control with adaptive function …

Taper Ratio Influence On The Performance Of 3-D Cavitating Hydrofoils Moving Under Free Surface, Şakir Bal
Seatific Journal
Taper ratio influence on the performance of three-dimensional (3-D) cavitating hydrofoils moving steadily under a free water surface has been investigated numerically. An iterative boundary element method (IBEM) developed before has been modified and extended to solve this problem. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid, incompressible and the flow irrotational. All variables and equations are made non-dimensional to achieve a consistent numerical scheme and a very quick convergence. The IBEM solves the hydrofoil problem and free surface problem separately with the effects of each other via their potential values in an iterative way. Both the 3-D hydrofoil surface and …

Maximum Entropy Production And Constructal Law: Variable Conductance And Branched Flow, Phillip Johnson
Maximum Entropy Production And Constructal Law: Variable Conductance And Branched Flow, Phillip Johnson
Seatific Journal
Within the scope of modern thermodynamics, several new principles have been advanced. Yet a coherent picture has not yet fully emerged beyond classical thermodynamics, in part because of the disparate nature of these principles. This work analyzes two such principles, that of maximum entropy production and also the constructal law. These ideas are compared in two examples scenarios, atmospheric convection and riverbed generation. It is shown that both ideas utilized a flow network with variable conductivity, particularly that of a branched system. Comparison is made to show underlying shared principles.

“Crusades Against Bolshevism”?: International Dimensions Of The Russian Civil War In Four Countries, Maxwell R. Markwald
Student Scholarship
The Russian Civil War (1917-1922), fought between Bolshevik and anti-Bolshevik factions, was one of the most pivotal conflicts of the 20th century. It led directly to the rise of the world’s first socialist state, the Soviet Union, which for decades was at the forefront of the international communist movement and a major global power until its collapse in 1991, around 70 years after its founding. The victory of the Bolsheviks was not always a guaranteed outcome, however. In fact, to an outside observer in February of 1917, it would have appeared one of the less likely. The six months that …
