Educating After-School Program Staff On Trauma-Informed Care, Emma Lowery May 2025

Educating After-School Program Staff On Trauma-Informed Care, Emma Lowery

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

After-school program staff often lack training on trauma-informed practices. Without a clear understanding of trauma-informed care, staff may not appropriately handle situations where a student's behaviors may be rooted in trauma, which can make emotional and behavioral outbreaks worse. By training after-school program staff on trauma-informed practices, the staff can more effectively support students and give them a sense of belonging in the program, while potentially decreasing negative behaviors. In order to address this issue, I created a two-day training session to educate staff at Barrett Elementary School in Morgan Hill, California on the principles and practices of trauma-informed care.

Effects Of Plant Growth-Promoting Microorganisms On Microbial Community Dynamics And Plant Growth Responses Of Aeroponically Cultivated Spinach, Veronica Snow

All NMU Master's Theses

Regional food insecurity caused by the inability to use conventional farming techniques year-round in cold climates increases the need for access to quality, locally sourced, and affordable foods year-round. Shifting from a soil-based system to aeroponics can increase yields, as aeroponic systems are not weather-reliant and can operate year-round. Aeroponics, a subgroup of hydroponics, induces growth by misting nutrient-rich solutions onto the plant roots. These systems use space and water more efficiently and rely less on fertilizers and pesticides but are vulnerable to errors in nutrient application, power loss, and rapid pathogen spread. Adding Vermicompost (VCT) and plant growth-promoting microorganisms …

Faith Formation And Discipling For Metamoderns, Kenley Hall May 2025

Faith Formation And Discipling For Metamoderns, Kenley Hall

Journal of Adventist Youth and Young Adult Ministries

What does the future of faith formation and discipling look like for “Metamoderns” with their cultural logic of toggling, which presents both a challenge and opportunity to the corporate and the local church? The unique cultural logic of Metamodernism has the potential not to weaken faith but rather create a deeper faith than that seen in previous generations and will suggest how the church can create a space for that faith to develop. Metamodernistic spirituality is still in its nascent formation. Depending on how the church, corporately and locally, responds on both levels will either lead Metamoderns into a deeper …

Achieving Reward-Based Crowdfunding Project Success: An Examination Of Value Congruence, Bright Frimpong, Emmanuel Wusuhon Yanibo Ayaburi, Francis K. Andoh-Baidoo

Information Systems Faculty Publications

Crowdfunding founders increasingly rely on reward-based platforms to raise capital for their projects. However, the low success rate of reward-based project campaigns remains a concern for many founders and platform managers. Prior studies investigating participants’ motivations have focused on either the founder or backer perspective, with little research examining the joint effects of founder and backer motivations. Drawing on the theory of basic human values, we assert that founders and backers are strategic about their motivations for engaging in crowdfunding campaigns. We identify four basic human values—self-transcendence, self-enhancement, openness to change, and conservation—that may reveal their intrinsic motivations and investigate …

Random Processes With High Variance Produce Scale Free Networks, Josh Johnston May 2025

Random Processes With High Variance Produce Scale Free Networks, Josh Johnston

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The degree distribution of a real world network --- the number of links per node --- often follows a power law, so some hubs have many more links than traditional graph generation methods predict. For years, preferential attachment and growth have been the proposed mechanisms leading to these scale free networks, exemplified by the Barabási–Albert model. This dissertation provides an alternative model using a randomly stopped linking process, showing that mixtures of geometric distributions can lead to power laws, an intuition suggested by the Central Limit Theorem for distributions with infinite variance. Having a collection of Bernoulli trials with high …

Modeling Language And Vision At Human Scales, Clayton Fields May 2025

Modeling Language And Vision At Human Scales, Clayton Fields

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The impressive results that have recently been achieved in natural language processing and artificial intelligence have been primarily driven by the introduction of the transformer deep learning architecture, increasingly large models with many parameters and using enormous datasets. The size of models and their training data requirements present costly demands that freeze many researchers out of training with cutting edge models. Beyond these practical implications, current methods learn from text alone, without the rich array of sensory information that human beings use in learning language. This means that language models are often incapable of reasoning about the concrete world that …
