Enhancing Aptv Reliability: A Study Of Design And Operational Efficiencies At An Aluminium Manufacturing Company, Mohammad Tayeb Alawadhi
Theses
This paper aims to focus on enhancing the reliability of Anode Pallet Transport Vehicles (APTVs) used in Aluminium Manufacturing Company. The primary objective of the project is to establish the causes of failure modes, assess the operational problems, and implement strategies that would prevent, reduce, or minimize the frequency of failure, low equipment utilization, and high maintenance costs. APTV performance analysis involves the use of maintenance logs, operational data, and engineering specifications to obtain the best results. Applying Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), the study highlights the most critical parts causing the largest effect on operations, which include traction …
Intervention Techniques Targeting Echolalia: A Scoping Review, Adriana Dinello, Allison Gladfelter
Intervention Techniques Targeting Echolalia: A Scoping Review, Adriana Dinello, Allison Gladfelter
CISLL Publications
Purpose:
Although echolalic speech is found in typical development, echolalia is most commonly associated with autism. As such, echolalia has frequently been the focus of various interventions aimed at autistic children. Recent research and the voices of autistic self-advocates indicate that echolalia serves as a meaningful form of communication or functionally supports self-regulation. As a result, the literature on how, or whether, to target echolalia in therapy is full of philosophically diverse approaches. To support evidence-based practice, the purpose of this scoping review was to inform speech-language clinicians about current research on interventions targeting echolalia and how disagreement on this …
Northern Humboldt Indians: History Of Humboldt County People And Places, Jerry Rohde
Northern Humboldt Indians: History Of Humboldt County People And Places, Jerry Rohde
Trade & Scholarly Monographs
In what is now Humboldt County and southern Klamath County, seven Indian tribes made their home: the Mawenok, Whilkut, Tsnungwe, Hupa, Karuk, Yurok, and Wiyot. They arrayed themselves upon the land and sent their roots down into the earth, so that they had become as one with the place. Their villages were of long standing, and even their individual houses could sometimes be traced back, by name, for hundreds of years. In 1850, whites arrived on the shores to rage like a gale across the land. For 15 years the gale would sweep up the rivers and over the ridges …
Weak Formulation For Solving Inverse Problems In Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (With Applications To Learning Dynamical Systems), Victor William Rielly
Weak Formulation For Solving Inverse Problems In Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (With Applications To Learning Dynamical Systems), Victor William Rielly
Dissertations and Theses
We combine numerical and machine learning techniques to present a general framework for solving inverse problems using vector valued reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces in a variational formulation. We present this framework in two papers. In the first paper, we present an original state-of-the-art method derived in the context of our general framework for learning dynamical systems. In the second paper, we generalize the method from our first paper to arrive at the framework for solving inverse problems. Then we apply our general framework to the task of learning dynamical systems. In both papers we consider numerous applications of our methods …
Experiences Of Support And Success For Students Of Color In The Midwifery Educational Setting, Laura Jenson
Experiences Of Support And Success For Students Of Color In The Midwifery Educational Setting, Laura Jenson
Dissertations and Theses
The United States spends more on healthcare than any other developed country, yet perinatal health outcomes are among the worst, particularly for Black and Indigenous pregnant women and people. Structural and societal racism has contributed greatly to these inequities, and while a diverse perinatal healthcare workforce has the potential to mitigate the impact of pervasive racism, professions such as nurse-midwifery have evolved over time to be predominately white. The purpose of this study is to explore how students of color experience support and apply personal strategies for success in the midwifery educational setting. A basic qualitative study was done using …
Integrating Digital And Narrative Medicine In Modern Healthcare: A Systematic Review, Efthymia Efthymiou
Integrating Digital And Narrative Medicine In Modern Healthcare: A Systematic Review, Efthymia Efthymiou
All Works
The increasing integration of digital technologies in healthcare, such as electronic health records, telemedicine, and diagnostic algorithms, improved efficiency but raised concerns about the depersonalization of care. Narrative medicine has emerged as a pedagogical and clinical response to this shift, emphasizing the value of patient stories, socio-cultural contexts, and reflective practice. Understanding how digital tools support, rather than undermine, narrative competencies is critical for developing a more human-centered healthcare education. This review systematically examined empirical and theoretical studies on the integration of digital technologies and narrative medicine within healthcare education. Databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar were searched using …
Two-Sample Bi-Directional Causality Between Two Traits With Some Invalid Ivs In Both Directions Using Gwas Summary Statistics, Siyi Chen
School of Public Health Faculty Publications
Mendelian randomization (MR) is a widely used method for assessing causal relationships between risk factors and outcomes using genetic variants as instrumental variables (IVs). While traditional MR assumes uni-directional causality, bi-directional MR aims to identify the true causal direction. In uni-directional MR, invalid IVs due to pleiotropy can violate assumptions and introduce biases. In bi-directional MR, traditional MR can be performed separately for each direction, but the presence of invalid IVs poses even greater challenges. We introduce a new bi-directional MR method incorporating stepwise selection (Bidir-SW) designed to address these challenges. Our approach leverages public genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets …

Encountering The Imaginary: Félix Régamey In Japan And The Legacy Of Japonisme, Nicolas Moiseyev
Encountering The Imaginary: Félix Régamey In Japan And The Legacy Of Japonisme, Nicolas Moiseyev
Art and Art History Honors Projects
This thesis critically examines Félix Régamey’s transformative role in the development of Japonisme, highlighting his pivotal contribution to bridging Western perceptions and authentic Japanese culture during the late nineteenth century. Through an exploration of his firsthand experiences in Japan, Régamey emerges as a multifaceted and paradoxical figure—an artist, educator, and author—whose pursuits reshaped the narrative of Japanese art and cultural exchange in France amid the fervor of Japonisme. His immersion in Japanese society enabled him to engage directly with its artistic traditions, which he skillfully translated for European audiences. This study reveals Régamey’s efforts to challenge the prevailing Orientalist stereotypes …

Reflections On Teaching The Rule Of Law: An Essay, Christopher R. Kelley
Arkansas Law Notes
This Essay reflects on a Rule of Law course taught at the University of Arkansas School of Law since 2009, exploring its evolution and purpose over fifteen years. Moving beyond a historical survey of the rule of law and debates about its meaning, the course integrates diverse disciplines such as psychology, economics, and current events to cultivate lawyer professionalism through a rule of law lens. Central to the course is a focus on corruption—its causes, consequences, and cures—with professionalism presented as a key antidote, and an emphasis on helping students define what the rule of law means to them and …

Emotional Labour In The Boundary Work Of Filipino Transnational Workers In Indian Cities, Jozon A. Lorenzana
Emotional Labour In The Boundary Work Of Filipino Transnational Workers In Indian Cities, Jozon A. Lorenzana
Department of Communication Faculty Publications
This article examines the boundary work undertaken by Filipino transnational workers in globalizing Indian cities. While the ‘practice turn’ in boundary studies has shed light on boundary work's mundane and performative dimensions, the role of emotions in performing such work needs to be ascertained. To account for both the performative and emotional dimensions of boundary work, I present an ethnographic study on Filipino professionals in India that engages Hochschild's concept of emotional labour. Since the mid-2000s, local and multinational companies have hired Filipino professionals to set up businesses and manage operations. I examined their practices of boundary work through in-depth …
Simplified Control Of Neuromuscular Stimulation Systems For Restoration Of Reach With Limb Stiffness As A Modifiable Degree Of Freedom, Tyler R Johnson, Chase A Haddix, A Bolu Ajiboye, Dawn M Taylor
Simplified Control Of Neuromuscular Stimulation Systems For Restoration Of Reach With Limb Stiffness As A Modifiable Degree Of Freedom, Tyler R Johnson, Chase A Haddix, A Bolu Ajiboye, Dawn M Taylor
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Objective. Brain-controlled functional electrical stimulation (FES) of the upper limb has been used to restore arm function to paralyzed individuals in the lab. Able-bodied individuals naturally modulate limb stiffness throughout movements and in anticipation of perturbations. Our goal is to develop, via simulation, a framework for incorporating stiffness modulation into the currently-used ‘lookup-table-based’ FES control systems while addressing several practical issues: (1) optimizing stimulation across muscles with overlap in function, (2) coordinating stimulation across joints, and (3) minimizing errors due to fatigue. Our calibration process also needs to account for when current spread causes additional muscles to become activated. Approach. …

Age-related white matter (WM) microstructure maturation and decline occur throughout the human lifespan, complementing the process of gray matter development and degeneration. Here, we create normative lifespan reference curves for global and regional WM microstructure by harmonizing diffusion MRI (dMRI)-derived data from ten public datasets (N = 40,898 subjects; age: 3–95 years; 47.6% male). We tested three harmonization methods on regional diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) based fractional anisotropy (FA), a metric of WM microstructure, extracted using the ENIGMA-DTI pipeline. ComBat-GAM harmonization provided multi-study trajectories most consistent with known WM maturation peaks. Lifespan FA reference curves were validated with test-retest data …

Vanadyl Phthalocyanine As A Low-Temperature/Low-Pressure Catalyst For The Conversion Of Fructose To Methyl Levulinate, Juan Luna, Mataz Alcoutlabi, Elizabeth M. Fletes, Helia Magali Morales, Jason Parsons
School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications
In this study, a vanadyl phthalocyanine was synthesized and characterized using XRD, FTIR, and XPS, confirming the successful metalation of the phthalocyanine ring. XRD analysis showed the vanadyl phthalocyanine crystallized in the P-1 crystal lattice, with unit cell parameters a = 12.058 Å, b = 12.598 Å, and c = 8.719 Å, and the lattice angels were 96.203°, 94.941°, and 68.204°. FTIR spectroscopy supported the metalation by the disappearance of the N-H stretch of the non-metalated phthalocyanine. The vanadyl phthalocyanine was tested as a heterogenous catalyst for the conversion of fructose into methyl levulinate in H2SO4–methanol and HCl–methanol systems. The …
