Pelvic Fractures In Pregnancy: Multidisciplinary Management And Outcomes, Kaan Sevgi, Steven Pliskow, Sinan Nazif Aran

Student Publications

Pelvic fractures during pregnancy, though rare, pose significant risks to maternal and fetal health, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach to management. These injuries are predominantly caused by high-energy trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents, and are associated with a high incidence of complications, including maternal hemorrhage, placental abruption, and preterm labor. Advances in diagnostic imaging, such as low-dose CT scans and MRIs, have improved diagnostic accuracy while minimizing fetal exposure to radiation. Similarly, biomechanically tailored surgical interventions and innovative treatment strategies, including minimally invasive fixation techniques, have enhanced maternal survival rates, reaching 95% when multidisciplinary care is implemented. Despite these advancements, …

The histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4) methyltransferase KMT2D (also called MLL4) is one of the most frequently mutated epigenetic modifiers in many cancers, including medulloblastoma (MB). Notably, heterozygous KMT2D loss frequently occurs in MB and other cancers. However, its oncogenic role remains largely uncharacterized. Here, we show that heterozygous Kmt2d loss in murine cerebellar regions promotes MB genesis driven by heterozygous loss of the MB-suppressor gene Ptch via the upregulation of tumor-promoting programs (e.g., oxidative phosphorylation [OXPHOS]). Downregulation of the transcription-repressive tumor suppressor NCOR2 by heterozygous Kmt2d loss, along with Ptch

Tumour-Associated Macrophage Infiltration Differs In Meningioma Genotypes, And Is Important In Tumour Dynamics, Ting Zhang, Claire L. Adams, Gyorgy Fejer, Emanuela Ercolano, Jonathan Cutajar, Juri Na, Felix Sahm, C. Oliver Hanemann

Peninsula Medical School

Background: Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumours, with clinical behaviours ranging from benign to highly aggressive forms. The World Health Organisation classifies meningiomas into various grades, guiding prognosis and treatment. While surgery is effective for low-grade meningiomas, certain grade 1 tumours, as well as grade 2, 3, and recurrent cases are more aggressive and require new therapeutic approaches. Immunotherapy shows promise, with early-stage clinical trials demonstrating encouraging results. The tumour microenvironment (TME), particularly tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs), plays a pivotal role in tumour progression. TAMs influence tumour growth, metastasis, and immune evasion. However, their role in meningiomas, especially in …

The Canadian Press Views The 1908 American Presidential Election, Harvey Strum

Journal of 20th Century Media History

"How many people appreciate the tragedy of the defeat of Mr. Bryan," asked the anti-Bryan Toronto World on 5 November 1908. This expression of sympathy for the Great Commoner's defeat by Republican candidate William Howard Taft, represented the opinion of a minority of the Canadian press. Newspapers representing western agrarian progressives, trade unions, militant Protestant nativists, independent reformers, and social reform Liberals regretted Bryan's defeat since he symbolized reform that might creep across the 49th parallel. If Bryan's third defeat did not prompt the majority of Canadian editors to dance in the streets it did prompt them to raise their …

1960s Teen Fan Magazines And The Beatles: An Exploration Of Community, Fandom, And The Beatles Narrative, Allison Bumsted

Journal of 20th Century Media History

In the 1960s, before the days of the internet, there were few places a young person could read about popular music – as a limited number of print media outlets took popular music, especially rock, seriously. In order to read about popular music (beyond the reprinting of lyrics, industry news, or promotions), one would turn to newly developed teen-type and teen fan magazines like DIG or 16 Magazine, where pages were full of artists such as Elvis, Annette, Leslie Gore, Connie Francis, and Paul Anka. In 1964, the teen fan magazine reached a new height with the arrival of …

“To Prepare The Mind For Wonder”: Popular Science And Mass Media In The 1920s, Alexander Olson

Journal of 20th Century Media History

This article examines the creation and development of the Science Service, a 1920s initiative aimed at popularizing science through mass media. Founded by biologist William Ritter and newspaper magnate Edward Scripps, the wire service sought to disseminate accurate scientific information to the American public via newspapers, radio, and other popular media. While Scripps favored a commercially viable, accessible style that used entertainment to hook readers, Ritter envisioned science journalism as a tool for democratic education and intellectual empowerment. These conflicting philosophies created lasting tensions within the organization around how to address challenges such as sensationalism, editorial independence, and public skepticism. …

Cross-Border Limitations And Exceptions To Copyright: “Powered By Ai”, Marketa Trimble

Joint PIJIP/TLS Research Paper Series

Businesses and institutions that wish to utilize copyright-protected works in multiple countries face a multiplicity of national copyright laws; although national copyright laws have been harmonized in accordance with several international treaties, and harmonized even more in the European Union member states by European Union legislation, countries’ copyright laws continue to vary. The multiplicity of national copyright laws raises costs of transnational operations, including for businesses and institutions that rely on limitations and exceptions to copyright (“L&Es”) in multiple countries. For example, AI companies might want to rely on L&Es to train and deploy their AI in multiple countries, as …

The number of reactivations increased in the Güzelyalı-Erenköy landslide area after 2013 in Çanakkale, Türkiye, where historical landslide activity has been recorded since 1875. This area is home to numerous summer residences and experiences ongoing slow-moving landslide activity along a 400-m-long slope, extending from the heavily trafficked Çanakkale-İzmir highway to the coastline. In this study, the nature of the reactivations was evaluated by considering the conditioning and triggering factors that contributed to the landslide. The evaluation was based on geochemical analyses, field observations, geoelectric measurements, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) data. The results revealed that the sliding occurred along a …

Apatite Chemistry From The Xv Ioa Deposit, The Bafq–Saqand Metallogenic Province (Bsmp), Central Iran: Constrains On The Genesis Of Ioa Deposits, Sakine Amraei, Majid Ghasemi Siani, Mohammad Yazdi, Liang Qiu, Chang–Zhi Wu, Minghua Ren, Shahrokh Rajabpour May 2025

Apatite Chemistry From The Xv Ioa Deposit, The Bafq–Saqand Metallogenic Province (Bsmp), Central Iran: Constrains On The Genesis Of Ioa Deposits, Sakine Amraei, Majid Ghasemi Siani, Mohammad Yazdi, Liang Qiu, Chang–Zhi Wu, Minghua Ren, Shahrokh Rajabpour

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In this study, we present petrographical and microanalytical (EPMA, LA–ICP–MS) results of apatites associated with Fe–Ti±P mineralization in the XV deposit in the BSMP. Apatite is predominantly observed as subhedral to euhedral, homogeneous grains, with no zoning or inclusions. Geochemically, apatite is fluorapatite of magmatic origin, with Cl/OH and Cl/F ratios of <0.05 and 0.01 to 0.07, respectively. Apatites from XV and other IOA deposits in the BSMP display a high F/Cl ratio, which is likely the main characteristic of IOA–type deposits such as the Kiruna-type deposit. Apatites from both rock types (gabbro and pyroxenite) exhibit similar rare earth elements (REEs) and multitrace element patterns, indicative of a shared origin. The highly light rare earth elements (LREEs)–enriched pattern in chondrite–normalized fractionation trends, along with positive Eu and slight negative Ce anomalies, as well the high (La/Sm)N and (La/Yb)N ratios of XV apatite, further corroborates the magmatic genesis of fluorapatite. The Eu/Eu* and Ce/Ce* ratios in XV rocks imply a high oxidation condition, as well as other IOA deposits in BSMP. The sulfur content is less than 1 wt% and shows a positive correlation with SiO2, implying coupled dissolution–reprecipitation of primary fluorapatite. Considering the geological setting of XV and other IOA deposits in the BSMP, the parental magma(s) appear to have originated from oxidizing Fe-Ti±P-rich magma(s), likely formed within an extensional postcollisional setting, influenced by the Proto–Tethys and Central Iranian Microcontinent (CIMC) convergence events.

Experiences Of Group Support For Partners Of Sex Offenders, Monika Szabo May 2025

Experiences Of Group Support For Partners Of Sex Offenders, Monika Szabo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Intimate relationships with individuals who have committed sex offenses significantly stigmatize and traumatize partners. Partners also face barriers to effective treatment, negatively impacting both themselves and their children affected by these offenses. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to gain an understanding of partners’ experiences with support groups in coping with trauma symptoms and stigma, thus addressing a gap in the literature. Grounded in theoretical concepts of trauma, mutual aid, and stigma, how social support dynamics facilitate healing by investigating coping strategies and support group stages to understand participants’ healing journeys were examined. Data were collected from 10 …

Dna Repair And The Contribution To Chemotherapy Resistance, Ksenija Nesic, Phoebe Parker, Elizabeth M Swisher, John J Krais

2020-Current year OA Pubs

The DNA damage response comprises a set of imperfect pathways that maintain cell survival following exposure to DNA damaging agents. Cancers frequently exhibit DNA repair pathway alterations that contribute to their intrinsic genome instability. This, in part, facilitates a therapeutic window for many chemotherapeutic agents whose mechanisms of action often converge at the generation of a double-strand DNA break. The development of therapy resistance occurs through countless molecular mechanisms that promote tolerance to DNA damage, often by preventing break formation or increasing repair capacity. This review broadly discusses the DNA damaging mechanisms of action for different classes of chemotherapeutics, how …

The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Esg: A Conceptual Framework For Practitioners And Policymakers, Mario Marlito R. Domingo May 2025

The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Esg: A Conceptual Framework For Practitioners And Policymakers, Mario Marlito R. Domingo

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

The growing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into corporate ecosystems has reshaped the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) landscape. While AI offers powerful tools for sustainability optimization, social equity advancements, and governance automation, it also introduces significant challenges such as high energy consumption, bias in algorithmic decision-making, and regulatory uncertainties. Existing research often isolates these aspects rather than examining AI’s role within an interconnected ESG framework. This paper presents a conceptual framework—the AI-ESG Integration Model—for systematically analyzing AI’s dual impact on ESG initiatives. The model categorizes AI’s influence into three pillars: 1) AI’s role in environmental sustainability (E), addressing energy-intensive …

Combating Corruption In Heavily Indebted African Nations: The Role Of A Transparent Public Procurement System, Lauren G. Harkins

Washington Semester Program

This paper explores the implementation of transparency-focused public procurement reforms adopted during the HIPC Initiative and compares longitudinal corruption trends in 18 African countries after the reform initiative. Using IMF documentation and WGI corruption data, the study compares countries that implemented procurement and financial transparency measures with those that did not. The results show no consistent link between these reforms and improved corruption scores, highlighting the influence of political instability, sector-specific conditions, and limited implementation capacity. The study underscores the importance of realistic, incremental reforms and adequate institutional support, especially as countries adopt electronic procurement systems.
