Revisiting Section 2 And The Electors Clause: On The Right Of The People To Choose Presidential Electors, Mark Bohnhorst Jun 2025

Revisiting Section 2 And The Electors Clause: On The Right Of The People To Choose Presidential Electors, Mark Bohnhorst

Denver Law Review

Recent scholarship argues that Section 2 of the Fourteenth Amendment protects the people’s right to elect presidential electors. This Article offers fresh perspectives both on Section 2 scholarship and on the underlying history of the Electors Clause. It begins with a review of modern interpretations of the Fourteenth Amendment. It then summarizes the author's recent research into the text and structure of the Electors Clause and its ratification. It also offers new perspectives on consequential debates over the constitutionality of legislative election that began in 1800 and ended in 1826. When Section 2 was drafted in June 1866, the popular …

Private Campus Police And The Fourteenth Amendment, Vanessa Miller Jun 2025

Private Campus Police And The Fourteenth Amendment, Vanessa Miller

Denver Law Review

The rise and expansion of private campus police forces raises critical concerns about the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment. As state legislatures continue to authorize private police to act as state law enforcement officers and extend their jurisdiction beyond campus boundaries, resembling traditional public law enforcement agencies, the application of the state action doctrine and due process protections remains unclear. This Article examines the state laws that empower private campus police officers to exercise police power off-campus and evaluates the implications for due process protections under the Fourteenth Amendment. The newly established Johns Hopkins University Police Department serves as a …

Collision Kinematics For Fast Positron Impact Ionization Of Argon, Robert D. Dubois, Károly Tőkési Jun 2025

Collision Kinematics For Fast Positron Impact Ionization Of Argon, Robert D. Dubois, Károly Tőkési

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations for 1 keV positron impact ionization of argon are presented. A combination of energy-weighted triple differential cross-sections is shown to provide good to excellent agreement compared with experimental data, depending on the ejected electron azimuthal angular acceptance range used to define in-plane scattering. For ejected electron energies less than 100 eV, information about the influence of pre- (the impact parameter) and post-(the direction of scattering) collision kinematics on the triple differential level is obtained. An overall picture of these kinematic properties is also presented for single differential cross-sections as a function of ejected electron energy …

From Idea To Action: Defining And Measuring Voice Implementation, Ann E. Schlotzhauer, Mark G. Ehrhart Jun 2025

From Idea To Action: Defining And Measuring Voice Implementation, Ann E. Schlotzhauer, Mark G. Ehrhart

Psychological Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Despite increasing interest in the topic, research on managerial responses to voice is underdeveloped. In this article, we differentiate voice implementation from voice appreciation to add much-needed nuance to our understanding of how voice targets respond to voice behavior. We define voice implementation as the extent to which a voice target undertakes voluntary effort with the goal of enacting a suggestion from a voicer, including attempting to put a suggestion into action and/or advocating for the idea to those with the power to enact the suggestion. A 5-item scale based on this definition demonstrated strong content validity, construct validity, and …

Dynamic Environments Generate Geographic Fluctuations In Population Structure Of An Inland Shorebird, Andrea Contina, Scott W. Yanco, Allison K. Pierce, Hannah B. Vander Zanden, Craig A. Stricker, Gabriel J. Bowen, Michael B. Wunder

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications

Species distributions depend on fine-scale ecological processes and population growth trajectories and are influenced by climate and weather changes. However, the characterization of inter-population dynamics underlying the geographic distributions of migratory organisms remains challenging. We adopted a stable isotope approach to investigate the dynamic population geography of a terrestrial migratory bird across multiple generations. We found that the age-specific geographic source of Mountain Plovers sampled during winter shifted over four years across a latitudinal gradient. Moreover, our results show that differential effects of climate on the probability of occurrence at the wintering ground could be a driver of population turnover …

Do Government Benefit Programs Reduce Child Labor?: Causal Evidence From The Midday Meal Scheme In India, Vardaan Chawla, Tomoki Fujii, Arpita Khanna, Ray Rohan

Research Collection School Of Economics

This study evaluates the impact of the midday meal program in India on the prevalence of child labor for upper primary school going children. The staggered implementation of the largest school feeding program in the world across states provides exogenous variation in exposure. Using the nationally representative National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data, we find that exposure to the program reduced prevalence of child labor by 47 percent relative to children in never-treated states, with no significant difference in impact between boys and girls. The effects were primarily driven by a decline in household labor supply, especially performance of household …

Dupin: A Parallel Framework For Densest Subgraph Discovery In Fraud Detection On Massive Graphs, Jiaxin Jiang, Siyuan Yao, Yuchen Li, Qiange Wang, Bingsheng He, Min Chen

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Detecting fraudulent activities in financial and e-commerce transaction networks is crucial. One effective method for this is Densest Subgraph Discovery (DSD). However, deploying DSD methods in production systems faces substantial scalability challenges due to the predominantly sequential nature of existing methods, which impedes their ability to handle large-scale transaction networks and results in significant detection delays. To address these challenges, we introduce Dupin, a novel parallel processing framework designed for efficient DSD processing in billion-scale graphs. Dupin is powered by a processing engine that exploits the unique properties of the peeling process, with theoretical guarantees on detection quality and efficiency. …

Revisiting “Mandatory Mediation: An Oxymoron?” Advancing Access To Civil Justice Through Mandatory Adr, Dorcas Quek Anderson

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

Access to civil justice, a concept integral to the rule of law, has been an enduring concern in many countries. One prominent strategy to enhance access to civil justice entails the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods prior to court adjudication. In this regard, efforts to embed ADR within the court system have intensified in both England and Wales and Singapore. In Singapore, the parties have a duty to consider ADR prior to and during civil proceedings. More significantly, the courts have been empowered to order parties to attempt ADR. In a similar vein, the English Court of Appeal …

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

Recent advancements in digital platforms have reshaped content creation and distribution. User-generated content (UGC), created and shared by internet users, is transforming entertainment, communication, and information sharing. The rise of UGC has fueled the growth of the "creator economy"—an ecosystem of creators, users, and advertisers facilitated by platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. While prior research has primarily explored how UGC platforms incentivize content quantity and quality, this study advances the literature by examining how creators' content strategies influence consumer attention and how platform mechanisms shape this relationship, offering new insights into the interplay between creator behavior and platform design. …

Property Testing Ai: An Efficient Frontier, Paul Sopher Lintilhac Jun 2025

Property Testing Ai: An Efficient Frontier, Paul Sopher Lintilhac

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

In this dissertation, we take a step towards addressing the major problem of a lack of standardized and rigorous approaches to testing and evaluation of AI systems. Taking inspiration from both the fields of Property Testing and Property Based Testing (for programs), we develop a novel taxonomy of partially overlapping classes of properties of AI systems, including simple properties, compound properties, higher order properties, data relation properties, and architecture-utility properties. We argue that this taxonomy categorizes a diverse set of AI traits -- including accuracy, fairness, robustness, monotonicity, point-wise and global privacy properties, sensitivity, and more -- according to the …

Emerging Technologies Of Single-Cell Multi-Omics, Yi June Kim, Koichi Takahashi Jun 2025

Emerging Technologies Of Single-Cell Multi-Omics, Yi June Kim, Koichi Takahashi

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

The heterogeneity of the hematopoietic system was largely veiled by traditional bulk sequencing methods, which measure the averaged signals from mixed cellular populations. In contrast, single-cell sequencing has enabled the direct measurement of individual signals from each cell, significantly enhancing our ability to unveil such heterogeneity. Building on these advances, numerous single-cell multi-omics techniques have been developed into high-throughput, routinely accessible platforms, delineating the precise relationships among different layers of the central dogma in molecular biology. These technologies have uncovered the intricate landscape of genetic clonality and transcriptional heterogeneity in both normal and malignant hematopoietic systems, highlighting their roles in …

Legal Responses To Work-Related Intimate Partner Violence In Canada: Troubling Privatization, Jennifer Koshan

Dalhousie Law Journal

Intimate partner violence and coercive control can manifest in abusers’ attempts to sabotage their partners’ participation in employment. Work-related intimate partner violence (WRIPV) also implicates employers, governments, and society more broadly, challenging the individualizing frame often applied to IPV. However, the legal recognition of WRIPV has been slow and sporadic, disproportionately impacting women experiencing intersecting inequalities, who are more vulnerable to IPV and to work-related inequalities. This article examines how governments have responded to WRIPV, situating their responses in the continuing legacy of the public/private distinction. Using a rights-based framework, I evaluate the two newest Canadian reforms concerning WRIPV: occupational …
