Barriers And Facilitators Of Physical Activity Participation Among Children With Visual Impairments In The Middle East, Samir Qasim, Omar Hindawi, Amr Saad
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction Data from Western countries indicate that many children with visual impairments (VI) are significantly less physically active than their sighted peers (Aslan et al., 2012; Houwen et al., 2009; Zhu & Haegele, 2019). As physical behaviour may be influenced by environmental and cultural factors (Burahmah et al., 2023), we aimed to identify barriers and facilitators to physical activity participation among children with VI in Middle Eastern countries additionally, considering that no research on this topic has been published.
Methodology Twenty physical education (PE) and special education teachers with experience teaching children with VI were recruited from Jordan, Egypt, Saudi …

A Case-Study On Measurement Of Motor Competence And Health-Related Fitness In Children With A Vision Impairment In Ireland., Úna Britton Dr, Stephen Behan
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction Motor competence (MC) and health-related fitness (HRF) are positive predictors of physical activity (PA) in children (Britton et al., 2020; Lloyd et al., 2014). However, there is a scarcity of research on MC and HRF in children who are blind/vision impaired (BVI). Challenges in measurement exist, but are not insurmountable. BVI children must be included in data collection such as this, which is used to build an evidence base from which PA policies emanate, if they are to experience new opportunities to thrive and improve health and well-being through increased PA. This case-study reports baseline data for MC and …
The Common Law And Sec Rule 10b-5(B): Narrowing The Securities "Fraud" Exception To The First Amendment, Matthew Lambertson
The Common Law And Sec Rule 10b-5(B): Narrowing The Securities "Fraud" Exception To The First Amendment, Matthew Lambertson
Florida Law Review
Courts have read Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and regulations promulgated thereunder as requiring less than every element of common law fraud. In particular, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Rule 10b-5(b), which prohibits merely false or misleading statements about securities, often proscribes and deters speech that does not constitute common law fraud. Namely, in prosecuting a Rule 10b-5(b) claim, the SEC currently does not need to prove reliance, causation, and harm—three essential elements of common law fraud. Though the First Amendment generally protects false speech, it does not shield fraud. Upon adopting the First Amendment, …

Compelled Speech, Speaker Preception, And Plausibility, David S. Han
Florida Law Review
In Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a baker raised a compelled speech claim when his bakery was sanctioned by the Colorado Civil Rights Commission for refusing to make a customized cake for a same-sex wedding. This argument raised a number of difficult questions regarding the existence, attribution, and interpretation of speech that the Supreme Court ultimately left unanswered. Is making a customized cake protected “speech” for First Amendment purposes? When a baker makes a customized cake for a wedding, what exactly does that cake communicate (if anything)? And to whom should any message expressed by the …
Katz'S Imperfect Circle: An Empirical Study Of Reasonable Expectations Of Privacy, Tonja Jacobi, Christopher Brett Jaeger
Katz'S Imperfect Circle: An Empirical Study Of Reasonable Expectations Of Privacy, Tonja Jacobi, Christopher Brett Jaeger
Florida Law Review
Under Katz v. United States, the Fourth Amendment restricts government actions that infringe upon expectations of privacy that society recognizes as reasonable. This foundational test has long been criticized as circular, both because courts can shape the very expectations they seek to identify through their decisions and because governments can manipulate those expectations to expand the reach of their own power. But how do members of society decide what expectations are reasonable, and how do judges ascertain those expectations? And are expectations of privacy malleable even without deliberate manipulation?
This Article shows that the circularity critique is both understated …
Tribal Courts Are Courts Of General Jurisdiction, Grant Christensen
Tribal Courts Are Courts Of General Jurisdiction, Grant Christensen
Florida Law Review
Twenty years ago, the Supreme Court misread its precedents and took a shortcut to do what was “simpler” instead of what was right. It determined, without examining the origins of tribal judicial power, that tribal courts are not courts of general jurisdiction. Writing for the majority in Nevada v. Hicks, Justice Antonin Scalia concluded that in order to find that tribal courts were able to interpret federal law, the Court would have to “attribute to tribal courts jurisdiction that is not apparent.” But power often exists even if it is not apparent at first glance. Unwilling to do even …
The Originalist Case Against The Insular Cases, Michael D. Ramsey
The Originalist Case Against The Insular Cases, Michael D. Ramsey
Florida Law Review
Concurring in United States v. Vaello Madero, Justice Neil Gorsuch argued that the Insular Cases are contrary to the Constitution’s original meaning and should be overruled. The Supreme Court’s decisions in the Insular Cases, which created a second-class constitutional status for U.S. overseas territories, have also been criticized by leading originalist scholars such as Professors Gary Lawson and Michael Paulsen. However, there is no fully developed scholarly assessment of the Insular Cases from an originalist perspective; their inconsistency with an originalist approach is more assumed than proven. This Article fills that gap. Using the methodology of original public …
The Big Cost Of Small Farms, Tammi S. Etheridge
The Big Cost Of Small Farms, Tammi S. Etheridge
Florida Law Review
Americans love meat. We celebrate our independence with steaks on the grill, we enjoy our favorite pastime with hot dogs, and we give thanks with turkey. Our love of meat is so ingrained in our culture that, historically, small increases in meat prices have driven the populace to riot. Today, meat prices are rising. Simultaneously, the largest meat processors and packagers are seeing record profits. Consumers, in turn, are outraged. Their emotions are being fueled by politicians who blame rising profits on a pandemic of greed and collusion and then argue that rigid antitrust enforcement is the only solution.

The Future Of Antitrust Populism, Herbert Hovenkamp
The Future Of Antitrust Populism, Herbert Hovenkamp
Florida Law Review
During the Biden Administration a form of populism staked a claim in American antitrust policy. While it never had much impact on Congress or the federal judiciary, it had a powerful presence in the antitrust enforcement agencies. This populist antimonopoly movement provided few new ideas, however. Rather, it recycled policies from a half-century or more ago. These include moving merger policy back to the 1960s, resurrecting the often-rejected idea that antitrust should be concerned about “bigness” rather than high prices, reviving the Robinson-Patman Act of the 1930s–1970s, reinstating aggressive per se rules against vertical restraints that were applied in the …
The Chilling Effects Of Dobbs, Jonathon W. Penney, Danielle Keats Citron, Alexis Shore Ingber
The Chilling Effects Of Dobbs, Jonathon W. Penney, Danielle Keats Citron, Alexis Shore Ingber
Florida Law Review
The Supreme Court’s evisceration of the federal constitutional right to abortion has raised the specter of criminal and civil liability for abortion providers and patients. Police and prosecutors have easy access to commercial reservoirs of intimate data. As individual accounts made clear in the wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, corporate surveillance of intimate life chilled expressive activities, such as searching for information about reproductive health and using period tracking apps. Health professionals did not feel safe to speak out about the impact of new abortion laws. Harassment and threats directed at abortion clinics and at …

Unmasking Myocardial Bridging: Multimodal Imaging And Tailored Medical Approach In Exercise-Induced Angina – A Case Report, M.A. Amico, M. Casini, E.N. Costanzo, M. Moroni, N. Carrabba
Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Myocardial bridging (MB) is a congenital coronary anomaly in which a segment of a coronary artery runs intramyocardially. We present the case of a 38-year-old male with myocardial bridging in the mid-left anterior descending artery who developed exerciseinduced angina. This case underscores the importance of recognizing MB as a cause of ischemia that should not be overlooked in the diagnostic workup of patients with angina, especially in younger individuals. A comprehensive diagnostic approach, including multimodality imaging, is essential to uncover the pathology. A tailored pharmacological strategy is recommended. Long-term clinical follow-up is crucial for optimizing symptom management and reducing complications.

No Eyes In The Skies: State Of Alaska V. Mckelvey’S Impact On Aerial Surveillance In Alaska, Lauren Beizer, Johanna Crisman
Alaska Law Review
Alaska contains a dynamic and complex aviation culture. As one of the most visually captivating places on earth, Alaska also hosts enthralling scenery that could be deemed a photographer’s dream landscape, creating an interesting desire for aerial capture of certain scenes. The Alaska Supreme Court considered whether Alaska’s unique aviation culture, in conjunction with aerial police surveillance, infringes on residents’ right to privacy in State of Alaska v. McKelvey. While the United States Constitution contains no express right to privacy, the Alaskan Constitution explicitly ensures that the right to privacy of Alaskan residents will not be infringed upon. The United …

Bilingual Buddy, Adian Alvarado, Farhaan Pishori, Luis Villalta, Andrea Yao, Ekam Singh
Computer Science and Engineering Senior Theses
Bilingual students often face challenges in mathematics not due to a lack of ability, but because of linguistic barriers that hinder their understanding of math-specific terminology and consequently their problem-solving language ability. This project addresses that issue through the development of a mobile application designed to support English language acquisition in the context of mathematics for Spanish-speaking students. Rather than teaching mathematical concepts directly, the app focuses on vocabulary, syntax, and contextual comprehension through scaffolded lessons, gamified elements, and an integrated AI chatbot.
Built using Flutter for cross-platform compatibility, the app prioritizes accessibility, simplicity, and engagement for young users. Ethical …
Predicting Dust Palliative Effectiveness On Unpaved Roads Using A Simple Laboratory Procedure, David L. Barnes, Billy Connor
Predicting Dust Palliative Effectiveness On Unpaved Roads Using A Simple Laboratory Procedure, David L. Barnes, Billy Connor
CSET Project Reports
The ability of palliatives such as hygroscopic salts and synthetic fluids to reduce dust emissions from unpaved roads and other unpaved surfaces is well known. However, the effectiveness of different products used to control the loss of fine aggregate particles has largely been evaluated by observing the intensity of dust plumes produced behind moving vehicles. Currently, no standardized laboratory test exists for predicting dust palliative performance. Presented here is a laboratory methodology capable of predicting the effectiveness of palliatives applied to unpaved aggregate surfaces. The procedure evaluates the ability of palliatives to retain fine particles by measuring the total mass …
Investigating The Effect Of Subsistence Opportunities On Motor Vehicle Crash Frequency In Alaska, Nathan Belz
Investigating The Effect Of Subsistence Opportunities On Motor Vehicle Crash Frequency In Alaska, Nathan Belz
CSET Project Reports
This study investigates the relationship between personal use subsistence activities (i.e., dipnetting) and motor vehicle crashes using the Chitina Subdistrict fishery as a case study. Using crash data from 2013 to 2021, salmon run counts, permit and harvest data, and traffic volume and speed records, the analysis reveals that crash rates, standard deviation in speeds, and percentage of vehicles traveling over the speed limit increase during peak subsistence periods, particularly on weekends and during late-night or early-morning hours. These trends suggest that the long travel distances and time constraints associated with reaching this subsistence activity may elicit from drivers risk-tolerant …
Crashes And Injuries On Rural Roads In Alaska - Toward A Better Understanding Of Rural Safety Issues Through Linked Data And Environmental Factors Task B: Environmental And Geometric Safety Factors Of Rural Crashes, Vinod Vasudevan
CSET Project Reports
Alaska experiences extreme weather and driving conditions compared to many other locations in the United States. For example, during summer, most traffic activity occurs in daylight, whereas in winter months, the majority of traffic activity occurs in the dark. Similarly, driving conditions change drastically across seasons. During winter, heavy snow and extremely cold temperatures provide challenges for drivers. These conditions lead to safety concerns such as noticeable changes in daylight hours, peak traffic activities in dark hours, and reduced friction values due to snow and ice. Another challenge is the sun's position above the horizon throughout the year, especially during …

Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) promote lung protection and pathogen eradication during acute lung injury. We therefore tested the theory that pharmacologic stabilization of HIFs dampens lung injury during SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. Initial studies in murine SARS-CoV-2 models showed improved outcomes after treatment with the FDA-approved HIF-stabilizer vadadustat. Subsequent studies in genetic models implicated alveolar-expressed Hif1a in mediating lung protection. Therefore, we performed a randomized, double-blinded, multicenter phase 2 trial in patients admitted for SARS-CoV-2 infection and concomitant hypoxia (SpO2 ≤ 94%). Patients (n=448) were randomized to oral vadadustat (900 mg/day) or placebo for up to 14 days. Safety events were similar between …

Caste Discrimination In Ny - Starting A Conversation, Pranathi Charasala, Gali Racabi
Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers
Despite rapid socioeconomic ascent of Indian Americans in the U.S., caste hierarchies continue to structure inequality within the Indian diaspora. This working paper examines caste discrimination in contemporary New York, situating it within broader civil rights frameworks and legal precedents. Drawing from headline cases, emerging local laws, and collective bargaining agreements, the paper shows how caste operates as a social category—legally unrecognized yet experientially real. It explores both the possibilities and pitfalls of folding caste into existing categories like race, color, national origin, and religion, while grappling with arguments that frame caste protections as anti-Hindu bias. The paper concludes with …

In this study, a novel series of compounds, derived from the drug naproxen, was synthesized, this series includes carbamates, ureas, semicarbazides, and 1,2,4-triazole derivatives, and the synthesis was achieved through a multi-step synthetic approach. Initially, hydrazide (1) was prepared by reacting naproxen amino acid ester with hydrazine hydrate, followed by its conversion to naproxen glycine azide (2) through treatment with sodium nitrite in hydrochloric acid. Azide (2) was then subjected to thermal decomposition via Curtius rearrangement to yield isocyanate (3). Isocyanate (3) was subsequently reacted with various reagents, such as water, alcohol, amine, concentrated hydrochloric acid, hydrazine, and naproxen hydrazide, …

To prepare a new ligand, many compounds were used to synthesize Schiff-Mannich base, such as isatin, Para chloro Aniline, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole and indole. The resulting compound 1-((2-((1H-indol-1-ylthio)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-3-(4-chlorophenylimino)indolin-2-one (L). (L) was used to create a series of metal ion complexes with Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), Pd (II), Pt (IV), and Au (III). C.H.N.S., FTIR, mass spectra UV-ViS, 1H-NMR, 13CNMR, magnetic moment, and molar conductivity were used to characterize all of these compounds. Except for the palladium(II) and gold(III) complexes, all of the produced complexes had an octahedral geometry, according to the data. The antibacterial activity of the produced compounds was …
