He served four terms as Mayor of Boston: 1914–1918, 1922–1926, 1930–1934 and 1946–1950. He also served as Governor of Massachusetts from 1935-1937. Duty Of A Landlord To Third Persons Outside The Premises, Orville K. Algyer Dec 1934

Duty Of A Landlord To Third Persons Outside The Premises, Orville K. Algyer

Washington Law Review

The recent case of Munger v. Unon Savings & Loan Assn., presents a phase of the rather interesting question, under what factual circumstances will the courts find that the landlord after having leased his premises will continue to be held responsible for the general duties of an occupant in relation to third persons who are injured outside the premises, at a place where such persons have a right to be, by a defective condition or nuisance existing on the premises demised. In tbis case D, occupying a four-story building adjoining a public street, rented the third and fourth floors of …

Boston Chronicle December 1, 1934, The Boston Chronicle

Boston Chronicle Newspaper

The Boston Chronicle was a daily newspaper published from 1915-1966 and often described as Boston’s “other Black newspaper.” These scanned images were made from Suffolk University’s microfilm reels (covering 1932-1960) that were originally purchased from the Boston Public Library. Some of the original microfilm images are of poor quality so not all of the content is readable or keyword searchable.

Federal Regulation Of Motor Carriers, Paul G. Kauper Dec 1934

Federal Regulation Of Motor Carriers, Paul G. Kauper

Michigan Law Review

Regulations pertaining to public safety include such matters as requirements concerning drivers' licenses, safety equipment, clearance lights, maximum speed limits, and others of a similar nature. It has already been pointed out that the states in the absence of federal regulation can enforce safety regulations of this kind against interstate motor carriers. It has also been shown that federal regulation in this field is desired in order to relieve interstate motor carriers from diverse and conflicting state laws. The only limitation upon the right of the federal government to impose such regulations upon interstate motor carriers is the general requirement …

Constitutional Law - Home Owners Loan Corporation Act - Penalties Clause

Michigan Law Review

An indictment under the penalties clause of the Home Owners Loan Corporation Act, brought before the promulgation of authorization of charges for services rendered, was dismissed on the ground that, prior to such authorization, the act was not sufficiently definite to satisfy the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. United States v. Willard, (D. C. W.D.Mich.No.4057, September 27, 1934) 2 U.S.LAW WEEK, index p. 99.

Federal Regulation Of Motor Carriers, Paul G. Kauper Nov 1934

Federal Regulation Of Motor Carriers, Paul G. Kauper

Michigan Law Review

By it's policy of granting financial assistance to the States for roadbuilding purposes - a policy first inaugurated in 1916 - the federal government has made substantial contributions to the development of highway transportation in the United States. In a period of seventeen years ending with the fiscal year 1933, Congress had appropriated and allocated to the several States $1,290,000,000.00 for the purpose of building good roads. Since 1921 the use of federal aid funds has been limited to the improvement of a designated 7 per cent of each State's highway mileage. By May 31, 1933, work was completed on …

Administrative Tribunals-Notice And Hearing Jun 1934

Administrative Tribunals-Notice And Hearing

Michigan Law Review

The State Highway Commissioner proceeded against the defendant railroad under a Virginia statute empowering him to order the removal of any railroad grade crossing and the substitution of an elevated road when in his opinion public safety and convenience demanded it. No notice and hearing was given or required, and the only judicial recourse was an action in equity in the event of "arbitrary" action. Held, by a six-three decision, that although it is assumed that a state legislature might order the same action, it by no means follows that an administrative officer may be empowered to act with …

The First French Republic, Dorothy Conine Apr 1934

The First French Republic, Dorothy Conine

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis is intended as a study of the first French Republic during the years of 1792 and 1795.

The writer might call it the Revolution itself, so completely were the years of violence under the Convention the outcome of the attempt to preserve the advantages the Constituent Assembly had gained. To understand the conditions which were outgrown and the origin and growth of the revolutionary spirit, seems, therefore, quite as necessary as to trace the history of the destruction of abuse and the struggle for liberties and rights.

While novelties of historical matters are always to be suspected, the …
