Physical Layer Security With Unmanned Aerial Vehicles For Advanced Wireless Networks, Aly Sabri Abdalla
Physical Layer Security With Unmanned Aerial Vehicles For Advanced Wireless Networks, Aly Sabri Abdalla
Theses and Dissertations
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are emerging as enablers for supporting many applications and services, such as precision agriculture, search and rescue, temporary network deployment, coverage extension, and security. UAVs are being considered for integration into emerging wireless networks as aerial users, aerial relays (ARs), or aerial base stations (ABSs). This dissertation proposes employing UAVs to contribute to physical layer techniques that enhance the security performance of advanced wireless networks and services in terms of availability, resilience, and confidentiality. The focus is on securing terrestrial cellular communications against eavesdropping with a cellular-connected UAV that is dispatched as an AR or ABS. …

Does Race Affect Public Evaluations Of Constituent Messages In Local Government Meetings? Results From An Experiment, Bai Linh Hong
Does Race Affect Public Evaluations Of Constituent Messages In Local Government Meetings? Results From An Experiment, Bai Linh Hong
SAGE Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive
Constituents in the United States have used local public meetings in recent years to shape policy on some of the most high-profile race-related issues. However, public meeting participation remains less studied relative to other modes of participation. This study investigates the extent to which race shapes the way a message is heard and evaluated by the public audience and the degree to which its impact depends on the issue of the message. To carry out the study, I set up a 2 × 3 experiment containing six short treatment videos in which I manipulated the race of the actor/speaker (Black …

Improving Safety In The Emergency Department: Utilizing Metal Detectors To Mitigate Weapon Possession, Jonathan Garcia
Improving Safety In The Emergency Department: Utilizing Metal Detectors To Mitigate Weapon Possession, Jonathan Garcia
MSN Capstone Projects
Today’s high risk-healthcare environment has prioritized patient safety with great initiatives and, unfortunately, placed staff safety second. However, safety for both groups should be equal priorities. Evidence suggests that Emergency Departments (ED) often care for patients with a history of crime and mental health diagnoses, creating an environment where the threat of violence and weapons is increasingly prevalent compared to other clinical settings. (Erlyana, 2019) Risk mitigation is possible if we consider studies by Malka et al. (2015) and Laidlaw et al. (2017) that indicate the efficacy of metal detectors in accurately identifying concealed weapons. To improve clinician and patient …

The Need To Reconceptualize Wild Animals Post-Covid 19: Miscoordination Of Wildlife Regulations In China’S Food Legal Order, Yi Seul Kim
Pace Environmental Law Review
Today, China is one of the largest markets for wild animal trading. Yet, wild animals are in a regulatory grey area. There is an increasing need to revisit how wild animals are simultaneously but differently regulated in the food and wildlife protection regimes. Rarely do attempts to understand these two regimes occur, making this article's analysis of miscoordination in these bodies of law crucial in addressing the hindrance of nationwide food safety improvement efforts.
Assessment Of Facultative Sulfur Reducing Bacteria In Acidic And Circumneutral Passive Remediation Systems Using A Novel Culturing Technique, Natalie Lamagna
Assessment Of Facultative Sulfur Reducing Bacteria In Acidic And Circumneutral Passive Remediation Systems Using A Novel Culturing Technique, Natalie Lamagna
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Pollution resulting from abandoned mine drainage (AMD) is widespread across the nation and impacts thousands of miles of watersheds in Pennsylvania alone. AMD contaminants pose hazards to ecosystems and to human health by lowering the pH and by suspending toxic heavy metals in water. Sulfur reducing bacteria (SRB) are known to remove metals and sulfur species from mine drainage through the formation of metal sulfide precipitates and have been documented to raise the alkalinity of water. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the environmental conditions in which these microorganisms survive. Environmental samples were collected from a circumneutral and an acidic …
Unfortunate But Ordinary: A Study Of Federal Court Approaches To Stays Of Removal, Talia Joundi
Unfortunate But Ordinary: A Study Of Federal Court Approaches To Stays Of Removal, Talia Joundi
LLM Theses
Interlocutory decisions issued on stay of removal motions by the Federal Court of Canada remain under-studied. A leading reason for the limited research is that stay orders were not published or publicly accessible five years ago. Since then, changes to the Court’s policies regarding publication have increased the number of accessible stay orders. The outcome of a denied stay motion may result in the immediate deportation of a foreign national from Canada. Given the high-stakes nature of these decisions, it is imperative to critically examine stay motion procedures, laws, and trends against established human rights norms. This study presents an …

Introduction Of A Policy Adherence Plan In An Outpatient Buprenorphine Treatment Clinic., Stacie Switzer Cheney
Introduction Of A Policy Adherence Plan In An Outpatient Buprenorphine Treatment Clinic., Stacie Switzer Cheney
Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers
Abstract
Background: Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is one of the most effective pharmacological therapies for opioid dependence. Regular urine drug screening to include random urine drug screens at least once a month is a key factor in improving quality care for those receiving treatment in an outpatient MAT clinic.
Problem: A rural outpatient MAT clinic has a current random urine policy that is not being utilized when treating clients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This increases the risk of diversion and misuse of buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone), thus increasing the risk of overdose and death for OUD patients.
Environment: This project was implemented …

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
This brief serves to fill the information void on the costs of running ambulance services for three population-based service tiers and establishes a minimum access standard for ambulances servicing a 25-minute travel time radius from the ambulance station. The model enables policymakers and community stakeholders to develop strategic plans for the financing and provision of ambulance services. Key Highlights: An expert panel established that ambulances could reasonably serve a maximum 25-minute travel time from the ambulance station that accounts for road conditions. A minimum access standard was defined as a single resource consisting of one full-time staffed ambulance, with a …

The Potential Of Iron Electrodes In Electrochemical Cells For The Stabilization Of Synthetic Urine, Skyler Voisin
The Potential Of Iron Electrodes In Electrochemical Cells For The Stabilization Of Synthetic Urine, Skyler Voisin
All Theses
Source separation and urine treatment present the opportunity to significantly reduce influent concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater treatment plants and to capture those minerals for reuse. This study aims to use electrochemical cells with a sacrificial iron electrode to produce hydrogen peroxide in situ for the stabilization of urea while dissolving ferrous iron ions to promote the precipitation of phosphate into compounds such as vivianite (Fe3 (PO4)2 ∙ 8 H2O), a precipitate with potential uses in agriculture and manufacturing. Synthetic urine samples were treated as anolyte, then were given time to form …

Tracing The Roots Of A Poisonous Tree: On The Origins And Impact Of Criminal Terminology In A Civil Apprehension Scheme, Shani Mahiri King, Nicole Silvestri Hall
New Mexico Law Review
Language is powerful. It can affect how we think about and treat groups of people. Poor language choices have a massive impact on immigration law, an area of the law that determines how groups of perceived “outsiders” are classified and regulated. Language and bias in judicial opinions have been studied, but less research has been done on poor language choices in immigration statutes. This Comment focuses on the harmful effects of poor language choices in immigration statutes, including the criminal terminology “arrest” and “warrant” in civil immigration apprehension statutes 8 U.S.C. Sections 1226 and 1357. Two fundamental problems arise when …

The Outer Limits: Jury Discretion, District Court Deference, & Excessive Damages In Morga V. Fedex Ground Package Sys., Inc., Aaron Sharratt
New Mexico Law Review
What is the value of life? Courts and commentators have long debated the question of the inherent value of life in relation to the awarding of compensatory damages. The New Mexico Supreme Court’s recent decision affirming a record $165 million civil award in Morga v. FedEx again brings this debate into public view. The decision effectively shuts the door to the prospect of higher State courts overturning a jury’s noneconomic compensatory damages award based on an excessive verdict claim. The case highlights the district court’s power and discretion in awarding monetary damages for nonmonetary injuries and the implications of defense …

Urban Vulnerability Analysis Based On Micro-Geographic Unit With Multi-Source Data—Case Study In Urumqi, Xinjiang, China, Jianghua Zheng, Danlin Yu, Chuqiao Han, Zhe Wang
Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
This study introduces a novel approach to urban public safety analysis inspired by a streetscape analysis commonly applied in urban criminology, leveraging the concept of micro-geographical units to account for urban spatial heterogeneity. Recognizing the intrinsic uniformity within these smaller, distinct environments of a city, the methodology represents a shift from large-scale regional studies to a more localized and precise exploration of urban vulnerability. The research objectives focus on three key aspects: first, establishing a framework for identifying and dividing cities into micro-geographical units; second, determining the type and nature of data that effectively illustrate the potential vulnerability of these …

Reentry Services In Non-Urban Counties In Texas: A Directed Content Analysis Of Reentry Provider Websites, Monica Canizares
Social Work Theses - Archive
Health, social, and justice outcomes for returning residents after incarceration are concerning, with implications for service providers, especially in non-urban areas. Texas has made efforts to reduce its incarcerated population, but more attention is necessary to improve outcomes for returning residents. The state is only able to offer services to a small number of returning residents, and non-profit organizations are filling the gap of reentry service provision. This study aimed to understand what services are being offered by non-governmental reentry providers in non-urban areas of Texas through a mixed-methods, directed content analysis of reentry providers' websites. The results summarize features …
