Depression Screening To Improve Early Detection, Referral, And Treatment Of Depression In Patients With Diabetes, Karina Avechuco
Depression Screening To Improve Early Detection, Referral, And Treatment Of Depression In Patients With Diabetes, Karina Avechuco
Group: Northern Arizona University School of Nursing, DNP Doctoral Papers
Comorbid depression is common among adults with diabetes and is associated with negative impacts on quality of life, health outcomes, and mortality rates. As of 2015, it was estimated that 415 million people were living with diabetes in the United States, and of those affected, 20 to 25 percent have some degree of depression. Evidence-based guidelines recommend routine depression screening. This appears to decrease negative health outcomes and may be a cost-effective way to reduce the risk of adverse outcomes. Despite recommendations, depression screening in patients with diabetes is not consistent. This is true for patients at the study clinic …
Impacting Practice Through Change: Implementing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Into A Nebraska School’S Curriculum, Samantha Renter
Impacting Practice Through Change: Implementing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Into A Nebraska School’S Curriculum, Samantha Renter
Group: Nebraska Methodist College
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a life-saving technique that serves importance in many emergencies, in which someone’s breathing, or heartbeat has stopped. Despite strong evidence proving that basic life support (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation) improves survival rates after cardiac events, current studies show that there is a significant lack of knowledge regarding typical signs and risk factors associated with serious medical conditions (Enizi et al., 2016). Alarmingly, only a small percentage of the United States (U.S.) population knows how to administer CPR; indicating that the widespread implementation of CPR training will benefit high school students while impacting the broader U.S. public. In the …

Target Receptors Of Cbd & Potential Clinical Implication(S): An Integrative Review, Teran A. Walford
Group: Bryan College of Health Sciences Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) Collection
The purpose of this integrative review is to investigate the potential receptors of cannabidiol (CBD) in order to better understand any potential clinical implication(s) during administration of anesthesia and analgesia. A total of eight full-text review articles were included from multiple databases. All eight of the review articles were analyzed for evidence related to the target receptors of CBD. Analysis of the review articles focused on potential receptors and implications of CBD as it relates to anesthesia and analgesia. Two primary receptors were discovered, 5-HT1A and TRPV1. In total, 14 potential receptors of CBD have been identified resulting in multiple …

Current Participation And Perceived Value Of Continuing Education, Susan Mcreynolds
Group: Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences
The purpose of this study was to survey nurses in a rural Mid-Western city to explore what continuing education topics they find valuable; their beliefs about the importance of CE to their professional practice; where they currently obtain CE from; perceived barriers to CE; and preferred format for CE programs. Data obtained from this study can be used to plan CE programs that will appeal to a large spectrum of nurses based upon identified preferences. CE programs designed with these preferences in mind will facilitate an optimal environment for professional development, continued competence, and life-long learning.
The Role Of Fast Tracks On Length Of Stay In Emergency Departments, Brandon Watson, Konrad Borkowski, Jonathan Conca-Petit
The Role Of Fast Tracks On Length Of Stay In Emergency Departments, Brandon Watson, Konrad Borkowski, Jonathan Conca-Petit
General Submissions: Clinical Settings Materials
Overcrowding in emergency departments (EDs) is a national crisis affecting hospitals. It has led to an association with poor patient outcomes and is a threat to public safety. Fast tracks (FTs) in the ED are one strategy that has been implemented to alleviate overcrowding while still ensuring quality of care. To evaluate if FTs are effective, length of stay (LOS) was investigated relative to the implementation of FTs across a variety of hospitals. Nurses are an integral part of the triage, assessment, and care that are central to the system of FTs. This review provides an in-depth look at the …

Japan's Response To The Trade Conflict Between The United States And China, Rikako Watai
Japan's Response To The Trade Conflict Between The United States And China, Rikako Watai
Washington International Law Journal
Abstract: Decoupling refers to the strategy of separating and disconnecting economies and markets between different nations. However, in the contest of the ongoing trade conflict between the United States and China, decoupling primarily refers to determining economic dependence on a specific nation as a national security risk, thereby reinforcing vulnerabilities in one’s supply chain. Japan views the United States as its primary partner in national security policy and China as a significant market because of its geographic proximity. As a result, ensuring economic security became a pressing concern for Japan.
Japan refers to the United States’ idea of economic …

Drones Neutralization, Drone Defense Solutions, Vassil Guliashki, Galia Marinova
UBT International Conference
This paper is devoted to the drone attacks, factors leading to their success, and the measures, strategies and technologies, which could be used, possibly in a combination to achieve an effective defense against these attacks. Usually, the drones attack their objective in a swarm. Hence, it is insufficient to prepare a defense against a single-drone attack. There are various ways and devices developed, to stop a droneattack, but unfortunately a 100 percent anti-drone protection cannot be guaranteed. The paper considers the modern counter-drone technology (with the popular name “Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems”, known also as C-UAS). It includes different approaches as …
How A.I. Will Change The Entire Structure Of Civilisation: The Need For A New Design Of Education, Roy J. Andersen
How A.I. Will Change The Entire Structure Of Civilisation: The Need For A New Design Of Education, Roy J. Andersen
UBT International Conference
The rapid rise of A.I. is expected to replace up to 90% of jobs by the end of the century, leading to widespread unemployment and profound social challenges. This paper explores the societal impacts of A.I.-driven unemployment, including increased crime, depression, and diminished personal freedoms due to heightened surveillance. It argues for a shift in education, moving away from job-oriented curricula toward a focus on behavioral development, ethics, and social responsibility, to prepare future generations for life in an A.I.-dominated world.

The Militarization Of Policing In The United States, Grace Simpson
The Militarization Of Policing In The United States, Grace Simpson
The Mid-Southern Journal of Criminal Justice
The increased use of police violence and the threat thereof has become a widely publicized issue. Particularly, the use of violence against minorities, especially Black individuals, is becoming more widely criticized by the public, scholars, and activists. This identification of policing violence relates to the militarization of policing, wherein the adoption of military equipment and tactics have contributed to increased violent targeting of minority communities. Policing agencies have increasingly turned these military weapons against civilians to maintain social control. Namely, militarism in policing has historical roots in violent racialized policing targeting Black communities. The current analysis critically examines the development …

The Potential Impact Of Charter Section 28 On Quebec's Controversial Secularism Law And The Pursuit Of Gender-Equality In Canadian Courts, Nywani Albert
Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies
The Western liberal democratic order, anchored in respect for individual rights and constitutional norms, faces a critical challenge as Quebec follows the pattern of several European nations in enacting laws restricting religious attire. While the Quebec Law 21, “An Act Respecting the Laicity of the State,” is ostensibly neutral, it particularly restricts Muslim women's rights. This paper explores an ongoing, novel legal strategy challenging Quebec's secularism law, focusing on Section 28 of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. While Section 28 mandates gender equality in Charter implementation, its potential remains largely unexplored in the decades since Charter enactment. Drawing …

A Decentralized Digital Watermarking Framework For Secure And Auditable Video Data In Smart Vehicular Networks, Xinyun Liu, Ronghua Xu, Yu Chen
Michigan Tech Publications
Thanks to the rapid advancements in Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and vehicular communication technologies, the concept of the Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data promotes the vision of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). An ITS is critical in enhancing road safety, traffic efficiency, and the overall driving experience by enabling a comprehensive data exchange platform. However, the open and dynamic nature of IoV networks brings significant performance and security challenges to IoV data acquisition, storage, and usage. To comprehensively tackle these challenges, this paper proposes a Decentralized Digital Watermarking framework for smart Vehicular …

Risk-Contamination And Dilution: Advancing The Rnr Model In Prison Settings, Baylee Allen-Flores, Zachary Hamilton, John Ursino, Alex Kigerl
Risk-Contamination And Dilution: Advancing The Rnr Model In Prison Settings, Baylee Allen-Flores, Zachary Hamilton, John Ursino, Alex Kigerl
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
The Risk-Needs-Responsivity (RNR) model posits separating lower from higher-risk individuals to avoid “risk contamination.” In a prison setting, policies and restrictions lead to mixing different populations within a housing unit. While this may pose a threat, it may allow higher-risk individuals to gradually promote through security levels, reducing risk. We term this “risk dilution.” The current study compares the infraction behavior of individuals that are over-classified (housed higher than their risk) and those under-classified (housed lower than their risk). Using mixed-effect models with a large (N = 52,000) sample of incarcerated men, findings demonstrate support for both contamination and …

(Ctrl + F)Ourth Amendment Searches Of Digital Storage Devices: A Novel Framework, James Mullen
Duke Law Journal
Judges frequently analogize physical precedents when applying Fourth Amendment law to searches of digital storage devices. But these analogies do not map well from physical to digital spaces because they overlook fundamental structures of digital storage. And the stakes are high—courts’ errors lead to oversearches that irreparably harm device owners regardless of the suspects’ guilt or innocence. This Note examines the structure of common digital storage devices and courts’ erroneous attempts to apply Fourth Amendment law to them.
This Note also proposes a novel two-phase framework that would curb oversearch. The framework uses a forensic program to conduct a limited …

Seeing The Whole Together Through Relational Mapping: A Method For Engaging In Complex Systems Change, John Paul Stephens
Seeing The Whole Together Through Relational Mapping: A Method For Engaging In Complex Systems Change, John Paul Stephens
Faculty Scholarship
Complex global challenges cut across organizational and sectoral boundaries, increasing calls for holistic responses. Seeing the whole across diverse stakeholders is challenging for participants in complex systems, yet doing so is essential for engaging effectively in systems change. A promising new method known as relational mapping, based on relational coordination theory, has been used to facilitate complex systems change. Here, we propose that relational mapping can be applied to help participants (1) see the whole in relation to the parts, (2) share their explicit and tacit knowledge, (3) engage in dialogue across distinct perspectives supported by the map as a …

Environment
We are living through significant environmental, social, political, and economic challenges. These challenges have strained our communities and humanbuilt systems, as well as our interconnected habitats, wildlife, and natural systems. Lack of adequate infrastructure to withstand natural disasters and climate change, as well as historical and presentday inequities in resources across neighborhoods, are examples of the multifaceted and interconnected threats contributing to the accelerated loss of our rich biodiversity. This natural abundance is integral to our region’s health, history, and continued prosperity.

Disparity And The Need For Sentencing Guidelines In Maine: A Proposal For Enhanced Appellate Review, Daniel E. Wathen
Disparity And The Need For Sentencing Guidelines In Maine: A Proposal For Enhanced Appellate Review, Daniel E. Wathen
Maine Law Review
Perhaps in no other field of judicial endeavor is diversity and variety more apparent than when a sentencing judge considers the circumstances presented by a defendant convicted of a criminal offense. In each case, the sentencing judge confronts an individual who has no exact counterpart in any defendant previously appearing before the court for sentencing. The sentence imposed is primarily a matter of judicial discretion and is based upon consideration of the nature of the offense, the circumstances surrounding the commission of the offense, and the circumstances of the defendant. The sentencing judge formulates a specific sentence within broad statutory …
Reasonable Accommodation And Non-Invidious Discrimination Under The Maine Human Rights Act, Stuart W. Tisdale Jr.
Reasonable Accommodation And Non-Invidious Discrimination Under The Maine Human Rights Act, Stuart W. Tisdale Jr.
Maine Law Review
"Invidious," through its Latin root invidia, for envy, hints at the dangers of arbitrary discrimination. Statutes, for instance, that distribute social or economic benefits and allocate burdens in a patently arbitrary manner alienate the burdened class. Such laws tear at the social fabric by instilling resentment and bitterness in the disfavored group. At an extreme they encourage rebellion. The famous Carolene Products footnote, in which Justice Stone suggested that the Court would apply a heightened standard of judicial review to statutes affecting "discrete and insular minorities," draws an implicit connection between invidiousness and fundamental unfairness. Invidiousness thus refers to the …
