How Phonological And Syntactic Overlap Impact Cognate Processing Speeds In Bilinguals, Ella Marie Peterson

This paper investigates individuals who are proficient in two languages (bilinguals) and the speeds at which bilinguals process cognates (words with comparable form and meaning across languages). This paper cites two ongoing experiments: The Language Identification (LID) task and the Self-Paced Listening (SPL) task. Findings from the LID suggest that phonological overlap in cognates facilitates bilingual language processing speeds, when cognates are presented in isolation. Findings from the SPL suggest that syntactic overlap in cognates also facilitates bilingual language processing speeds, when cognates are presented in sentences. This mixed methods action research intervention study analyzed the influence of social music improvisation (SMI) on students' behaviors and perceptions of their connectedness to others in a virtual middle school classroom setting. Nine 10-minute SMI sessions allowed for the accumulation of data, with two additional pre-sessions being informative and exploratory to describe the SMI intervention and practice its aspects with participants in the intervention group. Executive function performance following acute aerobic exercise can be influenced by multiple variables. However, little is known about the lasting effects of these exercise-induced changes. This study aimed to determine the extent to which exercise intensity impacts executive function. 14 young endurance-trained adults (5 female, 9 male) performed an Eriksen flanker task before and immediately after running high-intensity until failure and isochronal moderate-intensity (~12 min). Pre- to post-exercise-induced changes in reaction time (ms), accuracy (%), and self-reported mental effort (1-9 rating) were analyzed by overall tasks and through tasks subsections. Objectives: This paper provides new estimates of disability prevalence for the archipelago and mainland-residing Puerto Rican populations ages 40 and above and compares disability by place of birth and place of residence to investigate drivers of middle and older age health.

Methods: Large nationally representative samples from 2013 to 2017 American Community Survey and Puerto Rico Community Survey data are used to estimate age-specific disability prevalence for archipelago-born/archipelago-residing, archipelago-born/mainland-residing, mainland-born/mainland-residing Puerto Ricans.

Results: Mainland-born/ mainland-residing Puerto Ricans have the lowest age-adjusted disability rates and archipelago-born/archipelago-residing Puerto Ricans have the highest rates. Differences in education explain part of this disparity.

This study explores Bhutanese youth's perceptions, communication preferences, and engagement with waste separation and management, focusing on students at Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School (YHSS) in Thimphu. Using a mixed-methods approach, it combines surveys of 185 students with interviews from teachers and administrators to examine knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and systemic challenges. Findings reveal high awareness and positive attitudes among students, with social media and video content preferred for communication. วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อศึกษาผลของโปรแกรมเสริมสร้างพลังอำนาจของผู้ดูแลร่วมกับการใช้เว็บแอปพลิเคชันต่อทักษะทางสังคมของเด็กออทิสติกวัยก่อนเรียน

แบบแผนงานวิจัย: การวิจัยกึ่งทดลองแบบศึกษาสองกลุ่มวัดผลก่อนและหลังการทดลอง

วิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ เด็กออทิสติกวัยก่อนเรียนอายุ 3-6 ปี และผู้ดูแลที่เข้ามารับบริการในแผนกผู้ป่วยในของสถาบันราชานุกูลซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติตามเกณฑ์โดยได้รับการจับคู่ (Matched pair) แล้วสุ่มเข้ากลุ่มทดลองและกลุ่มควบคุม จำนวน 25 คู่ กลุ่มทดลองได้รับโปรแกรมเสริมสร้างพลังอำนาจของผู้ดูแลร่วมกับการใช้เว็บแอปพลิเคชันเป็นระยะเวลา 4 สัปดาห์ ส่วนกลุ่มควบคุมได้รับการพยาบาลตามปกติ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการทดลอง คือ โปรแกรมเสริมสร้างพลังอำนาจของผู้ดูแลร่วมกับการใช้เว็บแอปพลิเคชัน เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสังเกตพฤติกรรมด้านทักษะทางสังคมของเด็กออทิสติกวัยก่อนเรียนและแบบประเมินพลังอำนาจของผู้ดูแลเด็กออทิสติก มีค่าดัชนีความตรงตามเนื้อหา เท่ากับ .89 และ .90 ตามลำดับ มีค่าสัมประสิทธิ์แอลฟาครอนบาค เท่ากับ .97 และ .90 ตามลำดับ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติทดสอบแบบ paired samples t-test

การวิจัยเชิงทำนายครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาคุณภาพชีวิตและศึกษาปัจจัยทำนายคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวผู้รอดชีวิตจากโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือ ผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวผู้รอดชีวิตจากโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง ที่มารับการรักษาที่แผนกตรวจผู้ป่วยนอก สถาบันประสาทวิทยา และโรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทย จำนวน 120 คน เครื่องมือการวิจัยประกอบด้วย แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล แบบประเมินคุณภาพชีวิต แบบประเมินความสามารถในการปฏิบัติกิจวัตรประจำวัน แบบประเมินภาระการดูแล แบบประเมินภาวะซึมเศร้า แบบประเมินสัมพันธภาพในครอบครัว และแบบประเมินการสนับสนุนทางสังคม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพรรณนา สัมประสิทธิ์ของเพียร์สัน และวิเคราะห์การถดถอยพหุคูณแบบขั้นตอน

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวมีคุณภาพชีวิตปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 95.89 (SD = 11.48) ปัจจัยทำนายคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวผู้รอดชีวิตจากโรคหลอดเลือดสมองอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 ได้แก่ การสนับสนุนทางสังคม (Beta = .37) ภาวะซึมเศร้า (Beta = -.24) และความสามารถในการทำกิจวัตรประจำวัน (Beta = .22) โดยสามารถร่วมกันทำนายคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวผู้รอดชีวิตจากโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง ได้ร้อยละ 33

สรุป : ผลการวิจัยสามารถนำไปใช้ในการพัฒนาโปรแกรมการพยาบาลในการเตรียมผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวอย่างเหมาะสม เพื่อส่งเสริมให้ผู้ดูแลในครอบครัวผู้รอดชีวิตจากโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง มีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดี

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is one of the leading ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC) that lead to unplanned readmissions in the United States and among veterans of the Atlanta Veterans Healthcare System (AVAHCS). Patients who are diagnosed with CHF can incur medical and financial difficulties that have substantial negative impacts on their health outcomes and quality of life. This project implemented a checklist for the weekly monitoring of the care of veterans who have been hospitalized for CHF exacerbations in the last 12 months, and who have a 50% or higher 3-month probability (3M) risk of unplanned readmission.
