Background: Stigma surrounding opioid use disorder (OUD) and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), such as methadone, remains a significant barrier to care, despite the effectiveness of MOUD. Intersectional stigma tied to addiction, methadone treatment, structural racism, and classism disproportionately affects minoritized people with OUD, with direct consequences for health and wellbeing. Less is known about how Black and Latine people in methadone treatment think about and experience various dimensions of stigma related to addiction and the social determinants of health.
Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with Black and Latine patients from two Newark, NJ, United States, methadone clinics (n …

Juvenile Probation Officers’ And Therapists’ Perceptions Of Challenges In Rehabilitating Juvenile Sex Offenders And Reducing Recidivism In The Northern Region Of Texas, Raven L. Miles-Henderson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Juvenile probation officers (JPOs) and therapists play a critical role in supervising and rehabilitating juvenile sex offenders (JSOs) while balancing community safety and continuity of care. However, limited community-based services, variations in professional training, and challenges related to family engagement may create barriers to successful rehabilitation and recidivism reduction. The purpose of this qualitative grounded theory study was to explore how JPOs and therapists describe the obstacles they encounter when ensuring continuity of care for JSOs in the northern region of Texas. The study was guided by Bronfenbrenner’s social-ecological model to examine systemic and relational influences on supervision practices. Data …

Ai-Resistant And Ai-Resilient Assessment In Higher Education: A Systematic Review Of Validity-Grounded Strategies, Institutional Frameworks, And Equity Implications, Asrat Genet Amnie
Publications and Research
The emergence of large language models has precipitated a fun damental disruption to higher education assessment. Conventional instruments are susceptible to AI-assisted completion, threatening construct validity across disciplines and institutional contexts. When submitted work reflects AI capability rather than student competency, the inferential chain from performance to qualifica tion is invalidated – a problem of design rather than detection. This systematic review makes two contributions. First, it theorises and grounds the distinction between AI-resistant assessment, which seeks to prevent or impede AI access through containment, and AI-resilient assessment, which assesses genuine human cogni tive performance of intrinsic educational value regardless …

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to quantify how varying hair conditions—dry hair versus wet hair, complete hair loss, and the use of hair extensions—influence surface dose during WBRT. The study evaluated mask fit differences between the varying hair parameters and the potential implications for immobilization accuracy.
Methods: Four CT scans were acquired with a water phantom and varying hair parameters. A whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) plan was created on a dry wig human hair scan using 6MV photos. Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) were used to measure surface dose for each hair condition. Gap between the water phantom and …
“I Never Really Thought That Would Be Something To Talk About With My Doctor”: Developing A Theory-Led Decision Aid For College Students’ Substance Use Disclosure In Healthcare, Hayley Stahl
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
College students who use drugs face compounding barriers to disclosing substance use to healthcare providers, including uncertainty about health consequences and stigma-driven identity concerns. Existing disclosure tools address neither barrier in an integrated fashion. This explanatory sequential mixed-methods study examined how constructs from the Theory of Motivated Information Management (TMIM; Afifi & Weiner, 2004) and Stigma Management Communication (SMC; Meisenbach, 2010) theory suggest factors influencing substance use disclosure among college students and shape their lived disclosure experiences. In Study 1, simultaneous-entry multiple regression analyses revealed that communication efficacy was associated with information seeking, perceived benefits of disclosure were linked to …

The Role Of Cross-Cultural Connections In Leadership Identity Development: From Entry To Embodiment, Jennifer Okoliko
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Leadership identity development has received considerable attention in the literature, but most of what we know comes from studies focused on students in formal leadership programs or on the mentee’s side of mentoring relationships. Less understood is the mentor's leadership identity development journey and the role of culture in that process.
This study explores how mentors from low power distance cultural backgrounds who engaged with mentees from high power distance cultural backgrounds interpreted the impact of those experiences on their leadership identity development.
Using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), I conducted two semi-structured interviews with ten participants recruited from different formal …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose: Persistence is widely viewed as essential for success in business to business (B2B) selling, yet it remains unclear how persistence translates into higher sales performance when selling requires experimentation and novel customer solutions. This study examines whether a perceived sales innovativeness climate enables persistence and entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) and, in turn, creative selling, driving B2B sales performance.
Design/methodology/approach: An online survey of 346 US-based B2B salespeople was analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings: The perceived sales-innovativeness climate is positively associated with ESE, persistence, and sales performance. Persistence is positively related to sales performance and ESE, …

Transformative Phygital Service Research (Tpsr): An Agenda For Future Research, Saadia Shabnam, Sanjit K. Roy, Yonathan Silvain Roten, Gaganpreet Singh, Taewon Suh, Hairong Li
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose – This paper aims to develop a transformative phygital service research (TPSR) framework to explain how hybrid physical-digital service systems shape consumer well-being, autonomy, dignity and inclusion. While prior phygital service research (PSR) advances understanding of hybrid experiences and human-centred ecosystems, key ambiguities persist around agency, governance and interpretive labour in algorithmically mediated interactions. Existing frameworks address value co-creation but lack clarity on how digitally enforced rules and redistributed labour drive transformation. TPSR addresses this gap by theorising contradiction-driven processes through which human–AI arrangements and socio-technical dynamics produce both empowering and erosive outcomes in phygital service environments. Design/methodology/approach – …
Musical Objects, Territories, And Otherness, Andrew Farrar
Musical Objects, Territories, And Otherness, Andrew Farrar
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
As the materials that composers work with have become increasingly focused on elements outside traditional pitch relations such as timbre or register, so have their approaches to form. One such stream in modern composition, starting from electronic composers such as Pierre Schaeffer, is the use of ”sound” or ”musical” objects. These materials are marked by their wholistic nature, where qualities such as timbre, density, and con- tour are as important to their identity as pitch relationships. Composers such as Schaeffer, James Tenney, and Denis Smalley have all discussed these sound objects in their writings, though they refer to them under …

The Representation Of Heroism In Titanic (1997): A Hero's Journey Analysis Using Christopher Vogler's Framework, Andi Muhammad Ilham Hanif Inwan, Kukuh Prayitno Subagyo
Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts
This study examines the representation of heroism in Titanic (1997) by applying Christopher Vogler's Hero's Journey framework from a formalist perspective. The analysis focuses on the film's narrative structure and explores how heroism is constructed through character functions rather than through conventional heroic outcomes. Particular attention is given to Jack Dawson, who is interpreted as a sacrificial hero whose journey is fulfilled symbolically rather than through physical survival. Using qualitative film analysis, this study examines key scenes, dialogues, and narrative events to identify the stages of the Hero's Journey embodied by Jack Dawson. The findings reveal that, although Jack does …

Technical Disclosure: The Urban Biosphere Ziggurat (Ubz), Affordable Housing And Urban Planning, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
Current high-density urban housing models in the United States routinely fail because they optimize strictly for initial cost-per-square-foot, resulting in double-loaded corridor containment layouts that restrict natural light, induce community stagnation, and induce severe benefit "cliff effects" on upwardly mobile residents. The Urban Biosphere Ziggurat (UBZ) framework resolves this systemic crisis by decoupling high-tech, factory-precise structural engineering from regional, artistic architectural cladding. This disclosure outlines a scalable, non-speculative structural chassis integrated into a Community Land Trust (CLT) and Limited-Equity Housing Cooperative (LEHC) [1.5] governance ecosystem, permanently divesting real estate from predatory international speculation. A Differential Equation–Based Epidemiological Model Of Post-Operative Chronic Pain In Scoliosis Patients With Data-Driven Analysis, Paige Zhu, Padmanabhan Seshaiyer
CODEE Journal
Chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) is a common and often overlooked complication following surgical correction of idiopathic scoliosis, impacting long-term patient wellbeing despite improvements in surgical outcomes. This project introduces a novel epidemiological framework to model the progression of CPSP using a compartmental structure. By applying a coupled system of nonlinear differential equations, we simulate pain trajectories over time and assess the effectiveness of surgical interventions. The model is implemented for a single-cohort population and extended to a two-cohort design to compare outcomes between Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSIF) and Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) procedures. Further stratification by patient age enables us …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Small retail businesses in the Southern United States continue to experience costly millennial employee turnover, threatening workforce stability and long-term business sustainability. This issue is important to small Southern retail business owners because turnover increases staffing costs, disrupts customer service, and weakens organizational performance. The purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies some small Southern U.S. retail business owners use to improve millennial employee retention. The job demands–resources model grounded the research project. Participants were six owner-operators in Virginia, Alabama, and Tennessee with at least 5 years of leadership experience managing millennial employees. Data were collected through …
