Be Curious, Not Judgmental: Neurodiversity In Legal Education, Katherine Silver Kelly Jun 2025

Be Curious, Not Judgmental: Neurodiversity In Legal Education, Katherine Silver Kelly

Arkansas Law Review

This Article takes the position that the curiosity associated with legal education is limited to those who are neurotypical. For students who are neurodivergent, law school is a place of judgment, not curiosity. The number of neurodiverse law students is increasing, yet they are not sufficiently supported in law school. This Article will seek to show how the current structures of legal education, although fundamentally sound, have become overly rigid. Instead of providing students with intellectual foundations of legal doctrine that prepare them for the challenges of practicing law, the existing status quo stifles those goals. By limiting our practices …

The Career Breaking Point: Mid-Career Women’S Perceptions Of Organizational Communication And Their Career Disruptions, Laura Nicole Miller, Karen Mccullough

Applied Business Faculty Publications

When women in leadership experience career disruptions, they and their organizations lose. Companies forfeit experienced, mission-aligned talent, while women face instability and professional setbacks. This qualitative study offers a diagnostic foundation for understanding how organizational communication contributes to these disruptions. Guided by the cultural approach to organizations and using a constructivist grounded theory methodology, the study draws on semi-structured interviews with 14 mid-career women who experienced career interruptions. Findings identify three interrelated communication-related factors: mission-driven overwork, gaslighting, and value incongruence. Rather than prescribing solutions, the study centers on women’s lived experiences to highlight the communication patterns they perceive as harmful. …

‘ Less Museum And More Like Disney’ The Infantilisation Of Dark Histories: Objective Violence At Bodmin Jail, Siân Lewis, Iain Channing, Oliver Smith Jun 2025

‘ Less Museum And More Like Disney’ The Infantilisation Of Dark Histories: Objective Violence At Bodmin Jail, Siân Lewis, Iain Channing, Oliver Smith

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This paper uses the Bodmin Jail Attraction in Cornwall, UK, as a case study to explore how sites of dark tourism have been subsumed into infantilised consumer culture. In these commodified, disney-esque forms, rather than being spaces of reflection and education, they act to perpetuate objective violence. This allows us to fetishise the subjective violence of the past and disavow our participation in or acceptance of present and future harms. Using a conceptual framework that connects dark tourism with historical and sensory criminology, we analyse data gathered from a field analysis of Bodmin Jail, alongside the analysis of 1505 Trip …

Trends In Lumbar Epidural Injection Selection: A Survey Of Practitioner Preferences And Practice Patterns, Ryan Triglia, Andrew Walrond, Jesse Wagner, Paul Kitei, Jeffrey Boyd, Jeremy Simon

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Lumbar radiculopathy is estimated to affect approximately 3-5 % of the population. Among the leading causes of radiculopathy are degenerative or congenital spinal stenosis and lumbar disc herniations, which can contribute to compression and narrowing in various regions of the spine including the neural foramen, subarticular recess, or central canal. When patients do not respond to typical conservative treatment such as medications and physical therapy, epidural steroid injections can be considered as a next step in management. There are three approaches available for accessing the lumbar epidural space: caudal, interlaminar, and transforaminal. There is no clear consensus regarding the …

Investigating Human Expertise In Manufacturing To Enhance Knowledge Preservation And Transfer Practices, Krzysztof Kamil Jarosz

Theses

In the US, the machining industry is a vital part of the economy, employing over 290,000 skilled machinists and over 89,000 mechanical engineers. Whilst employment figures for engineers in this crucial sector has been fairly steady, a rapid decline in machinist workforce has been observed in the last decade, along with retirement of aging expert machinists and engineers, creating workforce shortages and loss of valuable manufacturing knowledge inherent to those highly skilled and experienced individuals. As engineering design and manufacturing knowledge are closely intertwined, so is the knowledge pertaining to practical aspects of machining and design of components that are …

The Experiences Of Adolescent Caregivers Of A Parent With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Barbara Thornton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In many families in the United States, minor children fulfill care duties for sick or disabled family members living within the children’s homes. Although there is extensive research and established support systems for adult family caregivers in the context of long-term illness, children in this caregiving role have been largely overlooked, resulting in a lack of support services to meet their unique needs and challenges. Grounded in Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to examine the experiences of children who serve as caregivers for parents with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and terminal …

Staff Education On Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Fall Rates Among Hospitalized Adult Psychiatric Patients, Blessing Rita Ugbor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A staff education initiative was implemented in an inpatient psychiatric facility in the Southern United States to address the significant practice problem: inadequate knowledge of fall prevention strategies among psychiatric nurses. The identified knowledge gap impairs the nurses’ ability to recognize fall risk factors and apply evidence-based interventions. Psychiatric inpatients are particularly vulnerable to falls, which compromise patient safety, increase health care costs, and contribute to poor outcomes. The project was guided by a practice-focused question addressing whether staff education on evidence-based fall prevention strategies would enhance nurses’ knowledge and reduce fall rates. The purpose of the project was to …

Framing Messages Toward Pro-Environmental Behavior: A Self-Determination Theory Perspective, Anna A. Mendiola, Ma. Regina M. Hechanova

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

The urgency of environmental issues has led to increased efforts to encourage pro-environmental behavior that is motivationally self-determined. On the other hand, persuasive communication has been established as having the ability to increase pro-environmental behavior significantly. Currently, there is hardly any research that links the use of persuasive communication, motivational constructs of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and pro-environmental behavior. An experiment was conducted on 420 university students utilizing messages framed in terms of addressing needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, the basic constructs of SDT. The results established the differential effect of these messages on motivation and pro-environmental behavior. In contrast …
