Social Media: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Kyung-Ah Judy Chang Dec 2025

Social Media: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Kyung-Ah Judy Chang

ETD Collection

As social media use is increasingly prevalent, many studies have examined the effects of social media breaks. However, little is known about the factors that make it difficult for people to stay off social media during a break. The present study aimed to better understand the psychological effects of a one-week social media break and the factors associated with lapses, or “cheating” by going back onto social media, during the break. Forty-two participants completed baseline questionnaires and daily surveys assessing psychological states, including loneliness, fear of missing out (FOMO), positive and negative affect, boredom, craving, and mental health symptoms. Participants …

Investing In Youths And Their Families: A Proposal For Grant Funding To Expand Mental Health Services At A Community-Based Center, Eliana M. Lopez

ETD Collection

Mental health services across the United States remain inequitably distributed, leaving under-resourced communities with limited access to essential services (Breslau et al., 2022). These disparities persist even in large metropolitan areas like New York City (NYC), with the Bronx, one of the city’s most historically marginalized and under-resourced borough, being especially vulnerable to disparities in mental health care (Breslau et al., 2022). The Family Advocacy Program (FAP), a community-based center part of the Department of Pediatrics at Jacobi Medical Center (JMC), is presently in need of additional financial resources to further expand their services to meet the rising mental health …

Toward Climate Resilient Cities: Endorsing Green Justice Amid Unequal Distribution And Disparities In Fast-Sprawling Urban Nagpur, Prajakta Pimpalshende, Manu Thomas, Jayshree Shukla, Shruti Lahoti, Shalini Dhyani

Cities and the Environment (CATE)

Population expansion and accelerated land development frequently overlook the inclusion of green infrastructure, leading to disparities in Urban Green Space (UGS) distribution. In rapidly urbanizing cities of the Global South, ensuring socio-ecological connectivity is vital for promoting sustainable, climate-resilient, multifunctional landscapes. This study uses Nagpur, a rapidly expanding Indian city, as a case study to investigate spatial inequities in UGS access through the lens of green justice. We employed the Demand Supply Gap assessment (World Health Organization and Urban and Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation, Government of India guidelines), the 3-30-300 green space rule as a guiding principle to …

The Impact Of Restorative Justice On Student Behavior, Marisol Gonzalez

Masters Theses (Archived)

This thesis critically examines the effects of Restorative Justice practices on student behavior within a predominantly Latinx charter school context. The research aims to identify the specific behaviors affected by the implementation of Restorative Justice frameworks. Utilizing a mixed-methods methodology, the study triangulates qualitative data from comprehensive staff interviews with quantitative analyses of incident referral records. The findings indicate a substantial enhancement in students’ sense of responsibility and emotional intelligence, and overall suspension rates decreased. These outcomes underscore the need for sustained professional development and institutional support to enhance the efficacy and sustainability of Restorative Justice initiatives in educational settings.

Emotion Regulation Differences Between Gender And Sexuality Groups: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Jake Camp, Emma Blundell, Patrick Smith, Katharine Rimes

School of Psychology

Gender and sexual minority (GSM) people are at increased risk of mental health difficulties compared to their cisgender-heterosexual peers. This is likely because of exposure to minority stressors. Emotion regulation difficulties have been proposed as an important mechanism for mental health disparities in GSM populations. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined whether GSM groups differ from cisgender and heterosexual groups in global and specific aspects of emotion regulation (e.g., emotion awareness, strategies, impulse control, cognitive appraisal, and emotion suppression), and whether emotion dysregulation mediated the relationship between GSM identity and mental health outcomes. We identified 40 eligible studies, of which …

Homemade For Change: Addressing The Barriers To Home Cooking Among Emerging Adults For Better Health, Finances, And Well-Being, Sarida Smitthimedhin

Masters Theses

This study investigates how a visual approach—combining design, photography, and illustration with nutrition—can encourage home cooking. In today’s fast-paced society and overabundance food culture, many emerging adults struggle to prepare meals at home. This study examines how food industry practices and cultural trends shape the eating habits of emerging adults by exploring the reasons behind the decline in home cooking and its adverse effects on health, finances, well-being, and the environment.

Although research indicates that most adults recognize that home cooking is the healthiest choice, they often do not practice it, citing time and lack of cooking knowledge as their …

Learning To View Christianity As True Myth And How It Should Influence Both Our Thinking And Our Actions, Joshua Jaccob Hazeldine Dec 2025

Learning To View Christianity As True Myth And How It Should Influence Both Our Thinking And Our Actions, Joshua Jaccob Hazeldine

Masters Theses

Often, Christianity and the Scriptures are viewed through either a purely academic lens or an emotionally based lens. While both methods have value and use, they also have major flaws that can hinder our growth and understanding. This thesis presents a more effective approach to understanding the Scriptures and our Christian faith. By combining both the heart and the mind, we have a method that can see the truth and logic of Christianity without missing the wonder and amazement of Christianity. This method was called True Myth by C.S. Lewis, for it acknowledges the total truth of everything in Christianity …

The Fruit Of The Spirit Beyond Sunday: A Practical Implementation Of The Fruit Of The Spirit Through Visual And Experiential Learning, Amy English Dec 2025

The Fruit Of The Spirit Beyond Sunday: A Practical Implementation Of The Fruit Of The Spirit Through Visual And Experiential Learning, Amy English

Masters Theses

In today’s world, modern Christian women recognize the importance of the Fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, meekness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and temperance—but many Christian women find it difficult to consistently put these virtues into practice. A key reason for this struggle is the lack of practical methods and visual reminders that help women recall and apply these qualities in their daily lives. Without clear, accessible ways to nurture these spiritual fruits, believers may find that their growth in these areas is limited or inconsistent.

This thesis explores how combining intentional spiritual habits with creative visual tools can make …

Communication Strategies Finance Leaders Use To Increase Employee Productivity And Organizational Profitability, Tricia Ashbourne

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract A lack of effective communication strategies to increase employee productivity and profitability is a concern among leaders in the finance industry. This problem is important because, without such strategies, organizations might experience decreased employee morale and misalignment, which could reduce productivity and profitability. Grounded in leader–member exchange theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to identify and explore the effective communication strategies that senior finance leaders use to increase employee productivity and organizational profitability. Participants were six senior leaders from the finance industry in the Cayman Islands, each with at least 5 years of executive responsibility over …

Navigating The Shadows: A Phenomenological Exploration Of The Psychological Well-Being Of Coachees From Strengths-Based Coaching, Lorenzo Moultrie Dec 2025

Navigating The Shadows: A Phenomenological Exploration Of The Psychological Well-Being Of Coachees From Strengths-Based Coaching, Lorenzo Moultrie

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Organizations may experience negative impacts, such as the loss of valuable employees and disruptions in team dynamics, when coaching interventions lead to challenges against organizational norms or policies. Coaching industry leaders must understand the negative impacts as indicators of workplace vulnerability affecting employees and productivity. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore how coachees describe their lived experiences of strengths-based coaching (SBC) and its impact on their psychological well-being (PWB). The SBC’s dual outcomes on PWB, using a conceptual framework that integrates positive psychology coaching, Ryff’s model of PWB, and social exchange theory, grounded this study. The …

Rhetorical Strategies In Legal Argument: Their Influence On Judicial Decisions And Public Perception, Olivia Deluca Dec 2025

Rhetorical Strategies In Legal Argument: Their Influence On Judicial Decisions And Public Perception, Olivia Deluca

Honors College Theses

The relationship between rhetoric and law has long been debated by scholars, theorists, and practitioners. This project explores how rhetorical strategies used in judicial writing and legal discourse influence both judicial decision making and public perception of the law. Drawing on classical rhetorical theory, contemporary legal scholarship, and qualitative research, this study investigates how appeals to morality, precedent, and narrative shape legal legitimacy. The research incorporates interviews with legal professionals and textual analysis of landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases to examine how rhetorical language both reflects and constructs legal authority. Findings suggest that rhetoric functions not only as a persuasive …

Art And Reentry: A Study On The Role Of Art Programs In The Reentry Of Formerly Incarcerated People, Angelina Paulus

Honors Theses

Arts programs are a well-established method of rehabilitation in prisons, yet limited research has examined the role of arts programs specifically during the post-incarceration reentry process. This qualitative study explores how participation in an arts-based reentry program shapes the emotional, social, and identity-related experience of formerly incarcerated individuals during reentry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five formerly incarcerated men who formerly participated in As We Emerge, a performance-based theater and monologue program offered through EMERGE Connecticut in New Haven, CT. Using inductive thematic analysis, three primary themes emerged: (1) processing emotions, (2) the development of social support and community connections, …

Early-To-Rise And Mobility, Opal Livelee, Helen Grace Baldo Dec 2025

Early-To-Rise And Mobility, Opal Livelee, Helen Grace Baldo

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Background: Immobility in hospitalized patients presents numerous physical and physiological complications. Evidence suggests circadian variation negatively impacts various bodily functions and overall quality of life. Interventions such as waking patients during the day and keeping them active can help maintain a normal sleep-wake cycle. This early-to-rise and mobility project builds on a successful pilot in the hospital’s stroke unit that demonstrated a decrease in the length of stay (LOS) of stroke patients after three months.

Purpose: To prevent complications and improve efficiency, the project aims to increase patients’ mobility, decrease patients’ LOS, and lower the LOS index.

Methods: The Plan, …

“She Has Ruined Your Program.” Faculty Motivations To Remain Employed Following Student Incivility, Rebecca Weaver, Michael Evans, Susan Loeb Dec 2025

“She Has Ruined Your Program.” Faculty Motivations To Remain Employed Following Student Incivility, Rebecca Weaver, Michael Evans, Susan Loeb

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Background: Across the U.S., there is a current undergraduate nursing faculty vacancy. Subsequently, there is a large number of qualified nursing students denied admission to nursing programs. These shortages contribute to the bigger issue of the U.S. professional nursing shortage. Previous research has shown that student-to-faculty incivility results in many negative psychological outcomes, which can lead to faculty considerations of leaving the profession.

Purpose: To determine undergraduate nursing faculty’s intrinsic and extrinsic motivating factors to remain in their current professional role after experiencing incivility from undergraduate nursing students

Methods: This was a qualitative, descriptive pilot study. Seven current undergraduate nursing …
