A Continued Theatre Of The Oppressed, Tania S. Cañas Dr
A Continued Theatre Of The Oppressed, Tania S. Cañas Dr
Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed
Abstract: A Continued Theatre of the Oppressed
There have been calls within the Theatre of the Oppressed community for a development of a poetics of the oppressor, a form of Theatre of the Oppressor; as an extension and reimagining of Theatre of the Oppressed (Chinyowa 2014, Harrison &Weinblatt 2011) Such calls centre on three main points: a less binary framing of oppressor-oppressed, developing allyship from the oppressor who is in a resourced position to make material structural changes, and finally as a call towards an increased dialogue through inclusion. Theatre of the Oppressed has a close relationship with social change, …
Trust And Feedback In A Student Teaching Support System, Kristin M. Rich
Trust And Feedback In A Student Teaching Support System, Kristin M. Rich
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
In a preservice teacher’s brief time as a student teacher, feedback between the student and his or her cooperating teacher and university supervisor is intended to be formative and allow for adjustments in pedagogy and continued development of a teaching identity. However, trust or lack of trust within this triad can influence any of the member’s response to feedback. Without trust, giving or receiving feedback may break down and hinder the preservice teacher’s progress. By considering three examples of student teaching experiences where the interplay of trust and feedback adversely affected a student teacher’s progress, this essay argues for more …

Zest, Character Education, And The Common Good, Ellen Ballock
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
Cultural change can bring changes in how society defines character. This essay examines one recent example of this change through examining how the trait known as zest may have come to be included in recent character education programs. The essay concludes by examining implications for Christian educators. It outlines an approach to thinking critically about character education, suggests an emphasis on traits that support God’s intentions for communal life, and offers examples of teaching practices that may help form hearts not just behaviors.

Christian University Teacher Education Graduates And Perceptions Of Parent Collaboration: An Exploratory Study, Marla J. Lohmann, Ruby L. Owiny
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
Effective collaboration between families and schools is an important factor when developing high quality education programs. When schools and families work together, children, families, schools, and communities all benefit. Using an online survey of students who completed teacher certification programs at two Christian universities, this study seeks to understand the way that completers from two teacher preparation programs, both at Christian universities, interact with parents and encourage collaboration and involvement. The research findings and implications for future research are discussed.
#Metoo Or "Me Too"?: Defining Our Terms, Caitlin L. Kelly
#Metoo Or "Me Too"?: Defining Our Terms, Caitlin L. Kelly
ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830
How we talk about misogyny and sexual violence in literary texts matters—to our students, to our colleagues, and to the future of the humanities and of higher education—and the “Me Too” movement has revived with new urgency debates about how to do that. In this essay, I explore the ethical implications of invoking the “Me Too” movement in the classroom, and I offer a model for designing a course that does not simply present women’s narratives as objects of study but rather uses those narratives to give students opportunities and tools to participate in the “Me Too” movement themselves. To …

Help Seeking For Mental Health Problems In Mental Health Counselors: Prevalence, Barriers, And Predictors, Carol A. Miller
Dissertations
This study surveyed a sample of 255 mental health counselors in the United States and used descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, one-way ANOVA, and logistic regression analysis to investigate the prevalence of mental health problems and help seeking, the perceived barriers to, and predictors of help seeking for mental health problems among mental health counselors. In this sample, 62.6% (n = 159) reported they had experienced a mental health problem during the time since licensure. Of those, 13.2% (n = 21) reported they had not received treatment. “Handling the problem on my own” was the most cited barrier to help seeking, …

Serving Homebound Seniors: In-Home Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Enrollment And Fresh Fruit And Vegetable Home Delivery For Homebound Seniors In Central New Jersey, Mehreen S. Ismail, Cara L. Cuite
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
Low-income, homebound seniors may encounter affordability and accessibility-related barriers to consuming enough fresh fruits and vegetables (FV). This paper describes a two-stage pilot intervention to improve fresh FV affordability and access for home-delivered meal (HDM) program clients in Central New Jersey. The first stage of the intervention offered in-home Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) enrollment assistance to low-income HDM program clients, with 13 clients successfully enrolling in SFMNP. The second stage of the intervention offered fresh FV home deliveries to all 64 HDM program clients at no cost to clients. We sourced fresh FV from a farmers’ market run …
Developing A Partnership Mindset In Extension 4-H Programs, Betsy Olson Minnaert, Jessica Pierson Russo, Margo Herman
Developing A Partnership Mindset In Extension 4-H Programs, Betsy Olson Minnaert, Jessica Pierson Russo, Margo Herman
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
Partnering has become a growing strategy within the Minnesota Extension 4-H program to support a strong organizational commitment to reach all youth with opportunities to learn, lead, and contribute. A partnership approach requires recognizing the unique contexts in which youth live. Since not all communities are the same, adaptable partnership approaches are essential to developing programs that are responsive to diverse communities. These approaches require staff skills and perspectives that recognize how, with partnerships, we can do better together what each entity could not do alone. Staff with a partnership mindset help pave that pathway. To learn about what a …

Assessing Priority Competencies For Evaluation Capacity Building In Extension, Lendel K. Narine, Amanda D. Ali
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
Program planning and evaluation activities play a critical role in the quality of Extension programs. The literature consistently identifies program planning and evaluation as core Extension competencies. With an increased focus on accountability in Extension, there is a need to ensure Extension professionals are equipped with the most relevant competencies to show program impact. Guided by a competency model, this study sought to assess priority competencies for inclusion in an Evaluation Capacity Building (ECB) program at Utah State University (USU) Extension. Data were gathered from a sample of Extension professionals at USU Extension (n = 87) and analyzed using descriptive …

Changes In Lifeguards’ Hazard Detection And Eye Movements With Experience: Is One Season Enough?, Jennifer Smith, Geoff Long, Peter Dawes, Oliver Runswick, Michael J. Tipton
International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education
Surveillance is key to the lifesaving capability of lifeguards. Experienced personnel consistently display enhanced hazard detection capabilities compared to less experienced counterparts. However, the mechanisms which underpin this effect and the time it takes to develop these skills are not understood. We hypothesized that, after one season of experience, the number of hazards detected by, and eye movements of, less experienced lifeguards (LEL) would more closely approximate experienced lifeguards (EL). The LEL watched ‘beach scene’ videos at the beginning and end of their first season. The number of hazards detected and eye-movement data were collected and compared to the EL …

Purpose: Donepezil, a drug frequently used to treat dementia, is mainly metabolized by cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). This study investigated the relationships between CYP2D6 genotype and activity scores as well as predicted phenotype of plasma donepezil concentrations in 86 Thai dementia participants.
Materials and methods: CYP2D6 was genotyped using bead-chip technology (Luminex xTAG® v.3). Steady-state trough plasma donepezil concentrations were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography.
Results: Sixteen genotypes were found but the most frequent genotypes detected among our participants were CYP2D6*10/*10 (27.9%) and *1/*10 (26.7%). One-third of the participants had an activity score of 1.25 which predicted that they were …

The Experience Of Learning: Early Adolescents In Organized Youth Programs, Jennifer A. Skuza
The Experience Of Learning: Early Adolescents In Organized Youth Programs, Jennifer A. Skuza
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
Although researchers and policymakers have focused on school as the critical place in which learning occurs, organized youth programs offer different environments in which early adolescents can learn. However, early adolescent learning in organized youth programs is an under-researched area of learning, which may limit the ability of youth development practitioners to respond appropriately to early adolescent learning needs. The purpose of this article is to describe the experience of learning in an organized youth program by finding meaning in early adolescents’ lived experience through a phenomenological methodology. For youth in this study, learning in an organized program is an …

Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
The need for physical activity promotion is ubiquitous, and offering physical activity interventions in community settings may reach people where they live, work, and play. Reaching people and providing evidence-based programming is exactly what the Cooperative Extension System has accomplished over the last century. In 2014, federal policy brought physical activity promotion into the mission of Extension. Although this policy marks the beginning of concerted efforts for physical activity promotion, several states have had strong success in this area. Borrowing from these efforts, this paper reports strengths, challenges, and opportunities for physical activity promotion in Extension.

Redesign Of Product Packaging With Kansei Engineering: Empirical Study On Small-Medium Enterprises In Indonesia, Amalia Suzianti, A. Aldianto
Makara Journal of Technology
Small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia have been proven to be one of the important pillars of the national economy. Unfortunately, some problems hinder their development, and one of the critical problems is the quality of product packaging. The packages of SME products are considered poor, dirty, and unattractive. Packaging problem is one of the factors why consumers are less interested in buying and why SME products always lose in the competition with other products. This study discusses how to employ Kansei engineering to design better SME product packaging with a focus on psychological (affective) aspects. This research concludes that there …
A Framework To Determine The Impact Of Poor Data Quality On The Reliability Of Iot Sensor-Based Real-Time Decision-Making, Arnold Rego
Theses and Dissertations
Today, more and more systems make real-time decisions based on the data received from sensors. But it is inevitable that sensors will fail, or send bad data – leading to faulty real-time decision-making. Using this poor-quality data in real-time decision-making can lead to deadly consequences. Traditional Data Quality (DQ) foundations call for “fixing” the poor DQ before the data can be used. However, time is often of the essence in a real-time decision-making environment, leaving little or no time to “fix” poor-quality data before it can be used in the decision-making process. The primary objective in real-time decision-making is not …

Finishing Time, I-Poems And 'The Pains Of Release' Into The Community After Punishment, J Parsons
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
Criminalised individuals remain one of the most vilified, marginalised and excluded social groups. This is particularly felt and enacted on release from prison, yet limited attention is paid to the lived experience of the ‘pains of release’ and to the narratives of former prisoners. ‘Finishing Time’ is a two-year project (2018-2020), funded by a discretionary grant from the Independent Social Research Foundation (ISRF), that aims to explore the lived experience of resettlement into the community after punishment. Overall, the research has become focused on how individual identities are formed through storytelling without assuming that identities are fixed or stable. It …
