When You Can't Get A One-Shot, Try A One Off, Chereeka Garner, Katy Miller, Renee Cole Montgomery Jan 2026

When You Can't Get A One-Shot, Try A One Off, Chereeka Garner, Katy Miller, Renee Cole Montgomery

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

One of the challenges facing librarians is getting exposure to students to teach information literacy skills. Faculty engagement with the library can vary greatly, with many faculty simply not having available class time to allow librarians in the classroom. As a possible alternative means of connecting with students, an Extra Credit Hub was created. This hub is an easily located, visible resource for faculty to share potential extra credit activities with students.

The Hub, which is a standalone Canvas course, includes a number of activities related to key information literacy skills, such as:

  • Recognizing bias, misinformation, and disinformation
  • Critical thinking …

Exploring The Role Of Occupational Therapy In The Delivery Of Trauma-Informed Services To Hospital-Based Clients Ot, Frank Czuba Jan 2026

Exploring The Role Of Occupational Therapy In The Delivery Of Trauma-Informed Services To Hospital-Based Clients Ot, Frank Czuba

Journal of Applied Disciplines

Hospitalization can traumatize clients and impact overall health outcomes, leading to increased hospital readmission rates and resulting in a negative impact for both clients and providers. Limited information exists regarding how hospital-based occupational therapists evaluate and address trauma, even though incorporating trauma-informed principles into professional practice can enhance the occupational therapy process. The study explored the comprehension and perceived significance of trauma-informed tenets among occupational therapists delivering services in hospital-based settings. A quantitative research study with an exploratory design was implemented to explore how occupational therapists (OT) understand and utilize trauma-informed practices with their clients in a hospital setting. An …

Teacher-Implemented Scaffolding, Sara Dominguez, Vanessa Svihla

Organization, Information and Learning Sciences ETDs

Teacher-implementing scaffolding is fundamental in teaching that was disrupted by the sudden move to emergency remote teaching during the pandemic.  A review of research found trends based on grade and subject and that teacher’s responsiveness was the main contingent processes reported.  Based on this a survey was developed and an exploratory factor analysis was completed.  An analysis of the survey results found differences in teacher agency, self-efficacy, and the supports used when comparing in-person and online teacher-implemented scaffolding.  Qualitative results further support findings and describe teachers’ perspective on the change to the environment, adaptations made, and hinderances noted while supporting …

Making Sense: Envy In Libanius' Declamation 30, Andrew Scholtz Jan 2026

Making Sense: Envy In Libanius' Declamation 30, Andrew Scholtz

Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MEAMS) Faculty Scholarship

Declamation, a genre famous for its sometimes extravagant fictions, has lately been approached as a vehicle for declaimers to reflect on realities familiar to them and their audiences. Reading Libanius' rarely discussed Declamation 30 in just such a self-reflective key, I argue that it explores the mindset of the phthoneros, the "envious man," as a way to make sense of risks posed by unscrupulous rivals. To shed light on this sense-making, I analyze High- and Late-Imperial emotion scripts foregrounding envy’s power to catalyze the formation of dysfunctional networks within and around competitive situations.

The Relationship Between Celebrity Worship And Psychotherapy Preferences, Sean Frydman M.S. Jan 2026

The Relationship Between Celebrity Worship And Psychotherapy Preferences, Sean Frydman M.S.

Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-

Celebrity worship (CW) is defined as an increased admiration toward a celebrity figure which may lead to excessive interest in their lives (McCutcheon et al., 2021). Intense CW has been found to be associated with a variety of pathological traits, suggesting that individuals with higher CW might benefit from psychotherapy (Sansone & Sansone, 2014). However, no research is available regarding psychotherapy preferences for this population. Research to date has found positive correlations between accommodating patients’ treatment preferences and greater treatment satisfaction and outcomes, stronger alliance, and reduced attrition (Iacoviello et al., 2007; Lindhiem et al., 2014; Swift et al., 2011, …

Psychotherapy Technique And Emotional Communication: The Relationship Between Technique Use In Psychotherapy And Patient Speech Styles Associated With The Referential Process, Sorrel Johnson M.S. Jan 2026

Psychotherapy Technique And Emotional Communication: The Relationship Between Technique Use In Psychotherapy And Patient Speech Styles Associated With The Referential Process, Sorrel Johnson M.S.

Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-

Linguistic analysis is a growing field within psychotherapy process research. Computerized measures have been developed to quantify qualities of speech associated with the Referential Process (RP), a construct describing the way in which people communicate emotional experience by cycling through different language styles (Bucci, 2021c). The three phases of RP are arousal, referential activity (RA), and reflection/reorganizing (R/R). Examining the latter two, the current study aimed to determine if therapists’ use of techniques was associated with immediate levels of patient RA and R/R in a sample of three archival psychotherapy sessions. Sessions were coded moment-by-moment (N=263 therapist speech turns) for …

Size Discrimination In Goldfish (Carassius Auratus), Johnna Patrick Jan 2026

Size Discrimination In Goldfish (Carassius Auratus), Johnna Patrick

Theses & ETDs

Quantitative abilities in fish have been previously observed, including in natural behaviors such as shoaling and various laboratory tasks. Two-choice visual discrimination tasks require individuals to differentiate between stimuli, and when conditioned, individuals can demonstrate learning of stimulus value. The concept of understanding ordinal relationships has been reported in goldfish (Carassius auratus) before, although no studies have explicitly tested primarily size discrimination. The current study tested four goldfish on their ability to perceive and swim through large vs. small holes, using an adapted methodology and expansion of similar literature. It also tested what the goldfish were learning during the discrimination …

Monotherapy Versus Combination Levothyroxine And Liothyronine In The Treatment Of Hypothyroidism, Anne F. Thomas Jan 2026

Monotherapy Versus Combination Levothyroxine And Liothyronine In The Treatment Of Hypothyroidism, Anne F. Thomas

The PA Department Journal of Medical Science

Introduction: Primary hypothyroidism is a common condition where the thyroid gland cannot produce free thyroxine (T4), leading to low serum levels of it. For this reason, it is often treated directly with monotherapy synthetic T4 or as a combined synthetic T4/T3. The purpose of this clinical review is to analyze the effectiveness of T4 monotherapy versus T4/T3 combination therapy in normalizing TSH values and improving symptoms in adults with hypothyroidism.

Methods: A specific search strategy in PubMed was used to conduct the research, incorporating key terms such as “hypothyroidism,” “levothyroxine,” “liothyronine,” and “TSH.” Four quality articles were left for final …

Brilliance Bias In Generative Ai, Juliana Shihadeh Jan 2026

Brilliance Bias In Generative Ai, Juliana Shihadeh

Engineering Ph.D. Theses

Generative AI models, like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and GPT have been shown to reinforce harmful biases, often perpetuating outdated and discriminatory stereotypes. This thesis examines a largely overlooked bias in AI systems: Brilliance Bias. By age six, many children begin to internalize the damaging notion that intellectual brilliance is a male trait — a belief that persists into adulthood.

This thesis consists of three studies that assess brilliance bias in generative AI. The first explores the behavior of popular text-to-image models when given intelligence-based prompts such as “brilliant” and “genius.” In particular, we seek to explore whether the models produce …

Enjoying The Golden Screen Of Asian American Representation In A Colorblind Era: Neoliberalism, Narrative, And Negotiation, Jered Mabaquiao Jan 2026

Enjoying The Golden Screen Of Asian American Representation In A Colorblind Era: Neoliberalism, Narrative, And Negotiation, Jered Mabaquiao

English Dissertations - Archive

This dissertation contributes to Asian American studies, Cinema and Media Studies, and Critical Theory by interrogating how contemporary Asian American representation is shaped by the intertwined pressures of racial politics, neoliberal market demands, and psychic life. Working across race studies, media studies, psychoanalysis, and phenomenological questions of ontology and being, the project argues that Asian American film and television cannot only be understood  through the language of popular culture representation, narrative progress, media visibility, or political inclusion. Instead, I combine such angles to examine how popular culture media participates in the contradictory production of Asian American subjectivity as culturally present …

Enhancing Resilience And Reducing Burnout In Oncology Nurse Practitioners Through The “Three Good Things” Intervention, Ernestine A. Muanya Jan 2026

Enhancing Resilience And Reducing Burnout In Oncology Nurse Practitioners Through The “Three Good Things” Intervention, Ernestine A. Muanya

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Background: Burnout among oncology nurse practitioners (NPs) threatens clinician well-being, care quality, and workforce retention. The World Health Organization (2019) defines burnout as a workplace condition caused by chronic unmanaged stress. Nationally, over half of healthcare professionals report burnout symptoms, with high rates in oncology (Deriglazov et al., 2025). In Texas, nearly 48% of advanced practice providers report emotional exhaustion and job-related stress (Patel et al., 2024). Objective: This single-group pre–post quality improvement project evaluated an eight-week, app-based Three Good Things (3GT) intervention to reduce burnout and enhance resilience among 19 breast medical oncology nurse practitioners at a comprehensive …

Nurse-Led Interventions To Reduce Occupational Hand Injuries In Manufacturing, Patti Harter Jan 2026

Nurse-Led Interventions To Reduce Occupational Hand Injuries In Manufacturing, Patti Harter

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Occupational hand injuries cause preventable morbidity, lost productivity, and workers’ compensation costs in manufacturing. Although safety policies and personal protective equipment (PPE) are in place, inconsistent glove use, slow hazard identification, and delayed response still cause injuries. This quality improvement (QI) project evaluated an eight-week, nurse-led injury-prevention bundle at a Texas heavy-vehicle manufacturing facility. The intervention required daily glove inspections, Safety Champion participation, real-time electronic hazard reporting, and corrective action within the shift. Injury outcomes were measured using Occupational Safety and Administration (OSHA) rates per 200,000 work hours and percentage change from baseline. After implementation, hand injury rates fell from …

Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening Adherence, Albin Abraham Jan 2026

Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening Adherence, Albin Abraham

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Background

As the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent but highly preventable form of cancer (American Cancer Society National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable [ACSNCCR], 2026; Maratt et al., 2024). Screening for CRC is fundamental to prevention and early detection. Despite advances in screening measures, CRC screenings remain suboptimal (Tonini & Zanni, 2024). In the US, more than one in three adults 45 years or older are not screened as recommended (ACSNCCR, 2026).

Purpose

As a safety-net county health network primarily serving the under-resourced population, the organization is uniquely positioned to impact …

Implementing An Anxiety Management Bundle In Long-Term Nursing Facilities, Sundan G. Bryson Jan 2026

Implementing An Anxiety Management Bundle In Long-Term Nursing Facilities, Sundan G. Bryson

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

There is currently a gap in accurate screening and treatment of anxiety in Long-Term Care (LTC) nursing facilities. The question for this quality improvement project was: Will implementing interventions for long-term care residents aged 65 and older improve anxiety screening, non-pharmacological interventions, and mental health referrals by 10% compared to current practices? Interventions to enhance anxiety screening included the Geriatric Anxiety Scale-Long Term Care (GAS-LTC) tool to assess and score anxiety. In addition, a Non-Pharmacological Intervention (Non-PI) tool was created to evaluate interventions performed by facility staff. Referrals to the mental health care provider were submitted if a resident scored …

The Unspoken Workweek: Understanding The Impact Of Menstruation On Work Experiences, Cherie Kuriakose Jan 2026

The Unspoken Workweek: Understanding The Impact Of Menstruation On Work Experiences, Cherie Kuriakose

Psychology Theses

Menstruation remains an underrecognized factor in workplace well-being, despite affecting a large portion of the workforce. Existing research shows significant gaps in understanding employees’ lived experiences and organizational responses. This qualitative study aims to explore how menstruation influences work life, productivity, and perceptions of support within U.S. workplaces. Thirty menstruating employees were recruited using convenience and purposive sampling to participate in semi-structured virtual interviews, and data were analyzed thematically, guided by grounded theory principles. Findings revealed three central themes: (a) stigma and non-disclosure, shaped by internalized norms and workplace culture; (b) invisible effort and struggles that impact work, including productivity, …

Examining The Paradoxical Effects Of Benevolent Sexism, Serena Rose Bonomo Jan 2026

Examining The Paradoxical Effects Of Benevolent Sexism, Serena Rose Bonomo

Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-

Benevolent sexism can be flattering on the surface, though is based on and perpetuates the same stereotypes as hostile sexism (Glick & Fiske, 1996; 1997). Research has demonstrated benevolent sexism exposure increases body shame in adult women, however this effect remains largely unexplained. The current study investigated the mediating effects of self-objectification (viewing oneself as an object) and system justification beliefs (believing that society is just and fair) to explain the positive relationship between exposure to benevolent sexism and body shame. Using an experimental paradigm, this study exposed a sample of adult women in the United States (N = 152) …

Main Areas Of International Activity Of Ukrainian Christian Churches, Yuliia Kondratiuk, Olha Hordiichuk, Iryna Vitiuk, Oleh Sokolovskyi

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

The article analyzes the international activities of the main Christian denominations in Ukraine (the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and Protestant denominations) in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which has been ongoing since 2014 and became full-scale in 2022. The war has radically changed the priorities of all denominations: from classical ecumenism and missionary work to mass humanitarian aid, the protection of religious freedom, and countering Russia's use of religion as an instrument of aggression. Despite repression, the destruction of more than 630 religious buildings, and the deaths of dozens of clergy, Ukrainian churches have …

The Impact Of Nurse-Led Distraction Techniques On Pain And Anxiety During Cancer Treatment In Pediatric Oncology Patients: Examining Virtual Reality And Play Therapy, Alexis Abalos Jan 2026

The Impact Of Nurse-Led Distraction Techniques On Pain And Anxiety During Cancer Treatment In Pediatric Oncology Patients: Examining Virtual Reality And Play Therapy, Alexis Abalos

Nursing | Senior Theses

Children undergoing cancer treatment often experience pain and anxiety during cancer treatment, including chemotherapeutic invasive procedures such as frequent port access or peripheral catheterization. Nurse-led distraction techniques, including virtual reality and play therapy, have emerged as promising non-pharmacologic interventions to reduce levels of pain and anxiety in pediatric oncology patients. This thesis analyzes existing data through a close examination of primary and secondary research articles that prove the effectiveness of virtual reality and play therapy on reducing pain, anxiety, and psychosocial distress in pediatric oncology patients receiving cancer treatment. Using the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Symptom Management Theory, …

The Kids Are Alright: A Preliminary Investigation Of The Effectiveness Of A Microaggression Training Series For Adolescents, Brea M. Banks, Bianca Sierra, Khyati Verma, Giselle Rivera Jan 2026

The Kids Are Alright: A Preliminary Investigation Of The Effectiveness Of A Microaggression Training Series For Adolescents, Brea M. Banks, Bianca Sierra, Khyati Verma, Giselle Rivera

Faculty Publications – Psychology

Microaggressions are identity-based indignities that lead to significant negative consequences for receivers. Although most research has focused on the microaggressive experiences of adults, adolescents experience these transgressions in schools, and they find these experiences offensive. As such, preparing high school students to address microaggressions when they receive or witness them and to respond appropriately when they receive feedback about their microaggressive behaviour is imperative. Using a quasi-experimental design, we conducted a preliminary investigation of the effectiveness of a microintervention training for adolescents at a high school in the Midwestern United States. The intervention was effective in producing improvement in assessed …

“I Have Already Lost My Kids”: Mothering Experiences Of Women In Jail, Bothwell Piason, Dawn Beichner-Thomas Jan 2026

“I Have Already Lost My Kids”: Mothering Experiences Of Women In Jail, Bothwell Piason, Dawn Beichner-Thomas

Faculty Publications - Criminal Justice Sciences

Although women represent a small proportion of the incarcerated population globally, their rate of incarceration in the United States has increased dramatically over the past four decades, outpacing that of men. As carceral trends return to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, jail populations continue to rise, with most incarcerated women being mothers of young children. Yet, research on motherhood behind bars has largely focused on prisons rather than jails. This study explores the mothering experiences of women incarcerated in two U.S. Midwestern jails, including both pretrial detainees and sentenced individuals. Using qualitative data from in-depth interviews with jailed mothers, the analysis examines …

Bridging The Divide Between Scholarly And Popular Leadership Writing, Nathan S. Hartman, Thomas A. Conklin Jan 2026

Bridging The Divide Between Scholarly And Popular Leadership Writing, Nathan S. Hartman, Thomas A. Conklin

Faculty Publications – Management

Leadership writing occupies a space between theoretical complexity and the human desire for practical insight. While popular leadership books often achieve wide resonance without scholarly rigor, academic journal articles frequently achieve rigor without broader relevance. Our article offers reasons for this bifurcation and suggests the use of the hermeneutic circle as a frame to interpret popular leadership texts not as threats to academic credibility, but as opportunities for reflection and reorientation. Through the hermeneutic circle, the relationship between scholarly and popular texts is conceptualized as recursive interplay between parts (e.g., rigor, audience) and wholes (e.g., influence, disciplinary norms). Rather than …
