Effectual Text Classification In Data Mining: A Practical Approach, Israa Ezzat, Alaa Wagih Abdulqader, Atheel Sabih Shaker
Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data
Text classification is the process of setting records into classes that have already been set up based on what they say. It automatically puts texts in natural languages into categories that have already been set up. Text classification is the most crucial part of text retrieval systems, which find texts based on what the user requests, and text understanding systems, which change the text in some way, like by making summaries, answering questions, or pulling out data. Existing algorithms that use supervised learning to classify text automatically need enough examples to learn well. The algorithms for data mining are used …

Effectiveness Of In-Person Versus Online Negotiation Teaching For Practitioners, Patricia Oehlschläger, Michael A. Merz
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Most negotiation courses have been taught in person. However, online education has become more prevalent over the past decade due to its flexibility, cost and time efficiency, and new digital technologies designed to compensate for the lack of personal contact. The global pandemic has accelerated this trend, raising the question of whether negotiation courses taught online are as effective as those taught in person. The few studies that have examined the effect of teaching modality on student performance were limited to undergraduate and graduate student samples and the results have been mixed. To contribute to this discussion, we conducted two …

The Importance Of Parent-Teacher Informant Discrepancy In Characterizing Autistic Youth: A Replication Latent Profile Analysis, Erin Kang, Matthew D. Lerner, Kenneth D. Gadow
The Importance Of Parent-Teacher Informant Discrepancy In Characterizing Autistic Youth: A Replication Latent Profile Analysis, Erin Kang, Matthew D. Lerner, Kenneth D. Gadow
Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Objective: Research about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) supports variation in symptom presentations across settings, and there is a growing literature that explicates how this variability may improve characterization of the autism phenotype. Capitalizing on a well-established literature on informant discrepancy as an index of contextual variability, research suggests that differing parent and teacher perceptions may impact treatment or education-related outcomes. A prior investigation by Lerner and colleagues suggests that parent-teacher discrepancies in ASD symptom ratings define discrete and clinically meaningful subgroups. However, replication in a larger sample is important to support the validity and utility of the subgroups for use …

Bicycling For Sustainable Urban Mobility: Comparing Urban Transformations In Paris And Bogotá, Luba Masliy
Pomona Senior Theses
Promoting cycling is one of the low-hanging fruits to decarbonizing transportation, with further extensive benefits to quality of life. The main deterrent to the adoption of cycling for transportation is the lack of safe and connected infrastructure. This thesis explores and compares the case studies of Paris and Bogotá, where cycling modal shares grew significantly within the last decade. Plans outlining ambitious goals around sustainable transportation were put in place, and total bicycle network lengths increased rapidly in both cities. My work focuses on examining policy and infrastructure developments that lead to increased adoption of cycling over time in Paris …

The Place For Illusions: Deepfake Technology And The Challenges Of Regulating Unreality, Lindsey Joost
University of Florida Journal of Law & Public Policy
Existing laws are insufficient to address the harms caused by deepfakes. This Note explores the characteristics of deepfakes that make preventing both the misuse of the technology and its proliferation on social media and the Internet difficult. This Note will then continue by explaining the special potential harms that deepfakes pose. The third part of this Note will address how the existing legal framework fails, including how Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act serves as a barrier to redress. Finally, this Note suggests potential remedies for deepfake transgressions to reduce the potential harm that deepfakes can inflict.

The Correlation Between Perceived Maternal Parenting Style And Perceived Emotion Regulation In Seventh-Day Adventists In Southern Brazil, Camila Cardoso Masotti
Master's Theses
Problem.\
One's ability to regulate his/her emotions utilizing coping mechanisms and dissuasive mental strategies is partly attained due to the correct functioning of innate biological systems and to life experiences that promote learning/training in this area (cf., e.g., Matsumoto & Hwang, 2012). The field of emotion regulation studies has extensively elaborated on a multivalent description of human emotional development, in which emotions are part of essential mental strategies for an individual's conscious and unconscious goals in life (cf., e.g., Lang & Bradley, 2010; Levenson, 1999). Therefore, as a partly learned ability, one's emotion regulation skills have been shown as positively …

This paper examines the credibility of source persons for community service projects in improving financial literacy for vocational school students in Indonesia. Improving financial literacy among Indonesian youth is a long-term effort that requires multi- collaboration between the government, financial institutions, educational institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Despite its substandard position to Singapore, Myanmar, and Malaysia, Indonesia’s financial literacy proficiency has improved significantly—one of which—after being catalyzed by the government’s cooperation with higher education institutions through community service programs. However, amid these improvements, greater attention must be given to capital markets, whose literacy level is most deficient compared to the …

Exploring Moral Distress Among Nurse Leaders, Preston H. Miller
Exploring Moral Distress Among Nurse Leaders, Preston H. Miller
Dissertations
Moral distress (MD) occurs when an individual knows the ethically correct action to take in a situation but institutional constraints prevent the individual from acting. MD is a well-documented phenomenon among nurses and occurs at a high frequency in the critical care setting. When MD is not adequately addressed and actions are not taken to mitigate precipitating factors within an organization, moral injury, moral residue, and burnout may consequentially result in nurses leaving their role or the profession. Nurse leaders are positioned to exemplify ethical leadership and provide support for their staff when MD is experienced; however, nurse leaders experience …

Secure coders' experiences and their proficiency vary greatly, and any overlooked software security flaws in code can lead to costly repercussions in deployed software applications. The techniques that secure coders utilize to analyze source code and develop mitigation strategies for security flaws are not well understood. Gaining a proper understanding of how coders approach finding and mitigating security flaws can help us efficiently and accurately discover and resolve such issues. One potentially beneficial technique is to collect, analyze, and visualize eye gazes that capture their coding patterns and behaviors. Our systematic literature survey focused on published methods for multiple types …

Prescription and illicit opioid use are a public health crisis, with the landscape shifting to fentanyl use. Since fentanyl is 100-fold more potent than morphine, its use is associated with a higher risk of fatal overdose that can be remediated through naloxone (Narcan) administration. However, recent reports indicate that xylazine, an anesthetic, is increasingly detected in accidental fentanyl overdose deaths. Anecdotal reports suggest that xylazine may prolong the fentanyl “high,” alter the onset of fentanyl withdrawal, and increase resistance to naloxone-induced reversal of overdose. To date, no preclinical studies have evaluated the impacts of xylazine on fentanyl self-administration (SA; 2.5 …
