Long Term Effects Analysis Of Children Exposed To Postpartum Depression, Asheria Foster
Long Term Effects Analysis Of Children Exposed To Postpartum Depression, Asheria Foster
Honors Undergraduate Theses
The purpose of this study is to explore and understand any correlation between a mother having postpartum depression and her now college-level child having a mental illness. The research question posed for this study was: Is there a correlation between maternal postpartum depression and the development of mental illnesses in college students? Studies have shown that there is a correlation in early childhood development, but there are deficits when it comes to long-term follow-up. Data for this study was collected via online surveys on SONA UCF. The results from the Chi-square test imply a strong association (p = .007) at …

Understanding The Impact Of Illinois’ Evidence-Based Funding Law: An Examination Of Spending For The First Three Years, Christopher T. Johnson
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
This dissertation comprises an examination of how school districts have allocated the resources they received as a result of the Illinois Evidenced-Based Funding (EBF) for Student Success law. The law was passed in 2017 with the rationale of providing additional resources to school districts based on evidenced-based approaches, with the vast majority of the funds to be allocated to districts in financial need. A brief history of school funding is extrapolated from the literature. An overview of the law and the resources that it brought to districts is then provided, followed by an analysis of how those resources were spent. …

Assessing Engagement In Bully Participant Behaviors For Children And Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dashae Rodriguez-Harris
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
Children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at an increased risk of involvement in bully participant behaviors, particularly as victims. Engagement in bully participant behaviors has been associated with a variety of poor academic, behavioral, and emotional outcomes for individuals with ASD. The current investigated the rates of involvement in bully participant behaviors engagement for youth with ASD. Additionally, the associations between social emotional competence and reported rates of bully participant behaviors were examined to determine if ratings of SEL competence by adults could be utilized to assess who is at risk of involvement in bullying without directly …

FUNDAMENTALS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: Textbook – English
A word processing application is the software program that lets you create new digital documents and open and update existing digital documents. Google Docs and Microsoft Word (part of Office 365) are the most popular word processors. If the document was created by Microsoft Word, it will have an extension of either .doc (older versions) or .docx (newer versions). Since Word documents are so ubiquitous, most productivity applications are able to open documents created in Word. You can also change document formats for example by uploading a Word document to Google Docs and downloading a Google Docs file as a …

Age-Related Microaggressions: A Follow-Up Descriptive Study, Hannah M. Lewis
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Age-related microaggressions are forms of ageist discrimination that occur during day-to-day interactions. The aim of this study was to identify common types of age-related microaggressions as well as to determine how negative affect influences emotional reactions to microaggressions. Using an online survey, participants (n = 200) were asked if they had experienced any of the 20 most common examples of age-related microaggressions reported in previous research (Gietzen et al, 2022). Follow up questions inquired about the frequency, emotional reactions, and behavioral responses to these microaggressions. Participants also rated their physical health and completed the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS; …

Perceptions Of Individual Burnout, Team Burnout, And Coping Resiliency Among Elite Pre-Professional Female Soccer Athletes, Kathleen Stapleton
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Mental illness is a significant contributor to physical illness and disease worldwide and is more prevalent in young adult females. Stress and burnout are both inputs and outputs affecting mental and physical health. Elite athletes are particularly susceptible to stress and burnout due to the added pressures of achieving champion status in their respective sports. Previous studies focused on individual perceptions of athlete burnout, but research is increasingly showcasing the need to understand the social aspect of team sport environments. This study used a cross-sectional survey to assess the levels of perceived burnout in a convenience sample of elite female …
“Born Again:” Narrating The Mental Health Journeys Of Religious Exiters, Fio Haire
“Born Again:” Narrating The Mental Health Journeys Of Religious Exiters, Fio Haire
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Religious exit–also known as disaffiliation, deconversion, or apostasy–is a growing phenomenon in the United States with significant individual and social consequences. In this review, I consult existing literature to clarify the relationship between the process of religious exit and the mental health of exiters I organize this literature using Ebaugh’s (1988) role-exit model to frame exiting religion as a multi-stage process of role-identity disruption, exit, anomie, and reestablishment. I situate each stage as characterized by changes in mental health, in alignment with psychological theories of the impact of self-construction and self-concept on mental health symptoms. The literature suggests that, beginning …

The Impact Of Immersive Vr Verses Desktop Vr Technologies On Learning Attainment And Sense Of Presence, Haley Renee Hoffman
Dissertations and Theses
The study examined the influence of immersive technologies and sense of presence on learning outcomes while comparing different media formats (Immersive Virtual Reality and Desktop Virtual Reality). The experiment was conducted on N=68 students that experienced a biology lesson about the human cellular system and its related processes. The current literature suggests that Immersive technologies can a powerful impact to learning, but it is crucial to identify when and how these impacts emerge. The current assumption is that presence and educational outcomes stem from the amount of engagement with the material, which is suggested to depend on the level of …

Feedback Loops: Feedback Fundamentals, Patrick Barry
Feedback Loops: Feedback Fundamentals, Patrick Barry
Books
Learning how to give and receive feedback is fundamental to the development of every student and professional. Yet few of us are ever taught anything like “feedback skills.”
This book, which is the first in the Feedback Loops series, is designed to change that. Here is what students who have taken the University of Michigan Law School course on which the series is based have said about it:
“One of the most memorable and useful classes I have taken in law school!”
“Excellent, full stop.”
“This class was always a fun highlight of my week.”
The Syntax Of Sports Class 5: Rhetorical Repetition, Patrick Barry
The Syntax Of Sports Class 5: Rhetorical Repetition, Patrick Barry
Books
Here are some of the words that the people who have attended Patrick Barry's classes and workshops have used to describe his unique, multidisciplinary approach to teaching writing:
"Fantastic"
"Phenomenal"
"Very engaging and informative:
"Incredibly useful
"Full of practical lessons for both my career and life generally"
This fifth book in his Syntax of Sports series gives you a chance to experience his creative (and capacious) mind for yourself. Whether you've already read the previous four books in the series or are trying one out for the very first time, you're in for quite the educational treat.
Keep Calm And Read Laterally! A Bite-Sized Information Literacy Programme At Singapore Management University Libraries, Zhenyan Li
Research Collection Library
Librarians at Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries developed an information literacy programme, titled Keep Calm and Read Laterally! as part of the Libraries’ flagship BiteSized Workshop Series. The initiative aimed to further the digital competence of students through advocating critical and effective engagement with digital information. The workshop was highly interactive, incorporating problem-based learning and hands-on group activities, and was split into two parts. The first part helped learners to understand what they read and what types of resources they could use to address various information needs, while the second part guided learners to assess digital information leveraging lateral reading …
Narrating The Fragmenting Brain: Alzheimer's Disease Neuronarratives, Bonnie Cross
Narrating The Fragmenting Brain: Alzheimer's Disease Neuronarratives, Bonnie Cross
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
This dissertation examines the representation of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) neuronarratives (NN), works that centralize the brain or consciousness in the plot, in multiple modalities to support that argument that neuronarratives should be expanded into a transmedia genre. These modalities include neurogames, neurocomics, and neuromemoirs. These three modalities were analyzed to determine how selfhood and social networks are represented by characters or authors with Alzheimer's Disease. As AD is often viewed as the loss of selfhood and is associated with isolation, these works combat these stigmas and complicate representations of the disease. The use of images was also examined in neurogames …
Holding An Empathic Lantern To Help Depressed Friends Find Their Way Out Of The Darkness: An Examination Of Intention To Offer Social Support Guided By The Reasoned Action Approach, Laura Boutemen
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Guided by the reasoned action approach, this two-fold research first used an online open-ended elicitation survey to identify beliefs held by undergraduate students (N = 397) pertaining to offering social support to depressed friends or peers. Then, these findings were included in a closed-ended survey study to assess the influence of intention on the social support behavior among students (N = 509). Additionally, the influence of the antecedents of intention (i.e., attitude, perceived norms, perceived behavioral control) on behavioral intention was explored. Next, the study examined whether beliefs predicted the antecedents of intention. Last, the influence of background …
The Role Of Savoring In The Relationship Between Concussion History And Consummatory Reward, John O'Donnell
The Role Of Savoring In The Relationship Between Concussion History And Consummatory Reward, John O'Donnell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
Concussions are a relatively common neurological injury and are associated with several adverse outcomes including depression. Anhedonia is a core feature of depression, with multiple subtypes, including consummatory anhedonia (i.e., diminished reward liking). Reward liking is related conceptually to the practice of savoring pleasurable stimuli. Savoring has been a component of mindfulness-based interventions that have efficacy in treating depressive symptoms. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between lifetime concussion history, reward liking, savoring, and depression severity. 293 participants (56% women; mean age: 19.31) completed an online questionnaire and computer-based image savoring task. Contrary to expectations, no …
