Optimal Placement Of Distributed Generation Units In Power Distribution Networks Using Particle Swarm Optimization, Owdean M. Suwi
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Power losses and voltage drops in distribution networks are critical issues in power system operation, reducing efficiency, reliability, and overall quality of the power supply to customers. Additionally, the rising electricity demand, deregulation of energy markets, and congestion in transmission networks have further contributed to the declining performance of the grid. To address these challenges, integrating distributed generation units (DGUs) into electric distribution systems has gained significant attention. Furthermore, the integration of DGUs into conventional fossil fuel-based power plants is becoming necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, proper placement and sizing of DGUs are crucial for achieving optimal benefits. …

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Meteorology, Environment and Arid Land Agriculture
Banana (Musa spp.) is a main economic crop. Several pre and postharvest factors are controlling fruit quality. Oweing to its climacteric nature numerous biological and metabolic changes occur rapidly within fruits and accelerate their ripening and senescence. These changes cause considerable postharvest losses that reduce supply chain efficiency. There is always a pressing and persistent necessity to minimize these losses and develop the current postharvest technologies. Nanoparticle technology has shown promising potential in fruit postharvest including banana. Further research is needed to provide more comprehensive knowledge of these promising materials.

Russian Verbs Of Motion In L2 Acquisition: Testing The Efficacy Of A Usage-Based Approach, Tobias-Alexander Herrmann
Russian Verbs Of Motion In L2 Acquisition: Testing The Efficacy Of A Usage-Based Approach, Tobias-Alexander Herrmann
Russian Language Journal
Unprefixed Russian motion verbs present unique challenges for second language (L2) learners as they encode distinct types of motion events. Traditional, directionality-based methods of teaching these verbs have faced criticism, prompting the adoption of alternative, cognitively informed approaches. This article builds on usage-based methodologies, such as those proposed by Nesset and Janda (2022), to investigate whether teaching unprefixed verbs of motion (UVoMs) as constructions can enhance L2 instruction. Using the frequent UVoM pair idti and xodit′ , both meaning ‘walk’, as a case study, I pursue two main goals. First, drawing on corpus data, I examine the construction UVoM + …

From Gesture To Coded Knowledge: Rediscovering And Redefining Tpr When Teaching Russian Motion Verbs In An Outdoor Classroom, Elena Susanna Weygandt
Russian Language Journal
The necessity to move my Russian as a second language (L2) classroom in an event tent during the “main” pandemic year encouraged me to create lessons engaging students’ movement and thus rediscover the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. This article presents the case for using TPR-inspired teaching as a mode to be considered in instruction of Russian verbs of motion (VoM). TPR, a teaching method and language acquisition theory suggested by James Asher in the 1960s, has further evolved in TPR role-playing and TPR storytelling and is used in L2 instruction today (e.g., Cook, 2008, p. 132; Davidheiser, 2002; Elliott …

Directionality Of Motion In Second Language Acquisition: With A Focus On L1-Korean L2-Russian Speakers, Hakyung Jung, Hyug Ahn, Jacee Cho
Russian Language Journal
This paper examines L2 acquisition of directionality of Russian motion verbs by L1-Korean speakers in terms of Slobin’s (1996) Thinking-for-Speaking (TFS) hypothesis and the markedness principle. Although directionality is lexically encoded in the verb in both Korean and Russian, the organization of this concept differs. In Russian, directionality is categorized solely by the feature [+/- directional], whereas in Korean, motion event expressions are distinguished not only by [+/-directional] but also by [+/-multi]. Experiments on L1-Korean, L1- Russian, and L1-Korean L2-Russian speakers demonstrated that (i) in Korean, the presence or absence of an explicit goal plays an important role in verb …

Valuation Procedure For Condemnation: A Fifty State Survey, David Griffiths
BYU Law Review
The Fifth Amendment requires statutorily authorized condemnors to provide just compensation to landowners for all takings. The procedural method used by states to determine just compensation varies widely among states and is often separate from the more standard procedures existing in traditional civil litigation. Regardless of their method, all fifty states and the District of Columbia each have their own unique procedure for determining just compensation. This Note distinctly classifies the procedural schemes currently used by states to initially value just compensation of condemned property into three general categories: (1) schemes that rely on commissioners to determine just compensation, (2) …

The maintenance of storage tanks involves complex and labour-intensive processes, particularly in blasting and coating operations. Conventional methods often require extensive scaffolding, manual labour, and exposure to hazardous environments, leading to increased safety risks and higher operational costs. Moreover, conventional approaches are typically slower, which prolongs downtime and negatively impacts overall productivity. Robotic technology may offer a solution to the above issues. Robotic tank blasting and coating technology refers to the use of automated robotic systems to perform surface preparation and coating applications, typically complemented with manual methods. This paper explores the effectiveness of robotic technologies with the primary objective …

Production of waxy crude oil poses significant challenges due to high wax contents, which negatively affects the production rate. Several techniques have been adopted to ensure the flow of heavy crude oil during production. However, many of the methods appear costly and pose challenges during installation. Therefore, this study aims to investigate using nichrome wire for heavy crude oil production. An experimental setup was developed to power the nichrome wire placed inside the production casing. It was observed that the temperature increased with the decrease in the diameter of the nichrome wire. Heavy crude oil’s maximum temperature was 72.3°C for …
