From Crisis Necessity To Sustained Use: A Process Model Of Mobile Banking Use In An Unequal Global South Context, Saadiek Basadien, Molefe Maloma, Mariam Jacobs-Basadien, Papama Mtambeka
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Mobile banking (m-banking) has become an important financial infrastructure, especially during crises. This study examines how users in the Western Cape, South Africa, adopted m-banking during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative design with a construct-informed interview guide and thematic analysis of interviews, we show that adoption was driven less by innovation-seeking and more by situational necessity to maintain financial continuity and minimise health risk. Over time, crisis-triggered use evolved into value-sustained engagement anchored in convenience, financial control, and growing digital confidence. The findings identify social mediation, risk-management practices, and digital literacy as key mechanisms shaping this trajectory. We developed …
Enzymatic Synthesis Of Salicylate In Yersina Pestis Proceeds Via Intramolecular Hydroxyl Group Transfer., Clarke Miller
Enzymatic Synthesis Of Salicylate In Yersina Pestis Proceeds Via Intramolecular Hydroxyl Group Transfer., Clarke Miller
Georgia Journal of Science
The salicylate synthase (YbtS) of Yersinia pestis catalyzes the initial step in the biosynthesis of yersiniabactin, an iron-scavenging siderophore and critical virulence factor. While YbtS is proposed to share a reaction mechanism with other anthranilate synthase homologs, the exact catalytic pathway has remained unresolved. In this work, stable isotope (18O) labeling and mass spectrometry are utilized to clarify the catalytic mechanism of YbtS. The results of the following set of experiments demonstrate that the salicylate hydroxyl group does not originate from solvent water, directly challenging previously proposed models. Instead, the lack of solvent-labeled oxygen incorporation and the absence …

South Africa's Inclusive Six-Dimensional Generative Ai Readiness Framework, Keegan Steyn, Ojelanki Ngwenyama, Sibongiseni Tunzelana
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) is transforming governance, knowledge systems, and economic activity, but current preparedness measures pay little attention to the socio-technical, institutional, and postcolonial contexts that shape country trajectories. To address this gap, the study employs a design science methodology to create the National Generative AI Readiness Assessment Framework (N-GAIRF), a six-dimensional diagnostic tool theoretically based on Sen's capability approach to development and incorporating Institutional Theory, Socio-Technical Systems Theory, National Innovation Systems Theory, and Postcolonial Information Systems critique. An example application to South Africa, compared to Zimbabwe and an indicative Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) reference …

Utilization Of An Open-Access Markerless Motion Analysis Software For A Biomechanics Movement Analysis Project., Tamra L. Llewellyn, Michael J. Nolan
Educational Practices in Kinesiology
The movement analysis project (MAP) is a common assignment in many undergraduate biomechanics courses. The purpose of this article is to introduce kinesiology educators to an open-source, AI-enabled, markerless software for motion capture, OpenCap, which can be used in MAP and research. This tool is currently being used in an in-person, upper-level, undergraduate biomechanics course where students are required to have taken Anatomy & Physiology. There is very little time, money, or expertise needed to implement this resource. Using 2 iPads on tripods and the OpenCap app and web-based interface, movements can be quickly converted to skeleton visualization and joint …

Social Media Motivations And Crisis Engagement Among Generation Z: A Uses And Gratification Perspective, Edina Galaa, Sulemana Bankuoru Egala, John Asibuo Boakye, Abdul-Hamid Sokun Alhassan
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Generation Z's growing use of social media during crises raises important questions about their motivations. This study applies Uses and Gratification Theory to investigate how four motivations — entertainment, social recognition, information sharing and altruism- drive Gen Z’s media use during emergencies and whether empathy moderates these effects. Using a scenario-based survey of 319 respondents and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling analysis, findings reveal that social recognition and altruism motivation significantly influence social media use intensity, while entertainment seeking and information sharing intention do not. Importantly, social media use intensity simultaneously predicts both prosocial need fulfilment and content validation …

Modern high‑density AI chiplet architectures routinely exceed 300–350 W/cm² heat flux, while simultaneously suffering from catastrophic CTE mismatch between silicon dies (~2.6 ppm/K) and conventional organic/ceramic substrates (13–17 ppm/K). This mismatch causes:
-
micro‑bump shearing
-
warpage
-
delamination
-
thermal runaway
-
premature package failure
The Arachne‑Chip ULTRA‑REAL Interposer solves these problems by integrating:
-
Anisotropic Dyneema UHMWPE composite (CTE‑matched structural layer)
-
VETI‑3.0 vortex‑enhanced microfluidic manifold (boundary‑layer disruption)
-
UGCRM‑1.0 gyroid thermal lattice (high surface‑area heat extraction)
-
Forgecell Prime thermal buffering (transient spike suppression)
-
Arachne v8.7 smart‑skin telemetry (strain + thermal gradient mapping)
-
Wildfire‑grade vibration isolation (pump + chassis noise suppression)
-
Neuromorphic adaptive control engine (self‑optimizing …
Robbed With Permission: Toward A Receiver-Consent Architecture For Trust-Preserving Mobile Money Transactions In Africa, Raphael Amponsah
Robbed With Permission: Toward A Receiver-Consent Architecture For Trust-Preserving Mobile Money Transactions In Africa, Raphael Amponsah
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Mobile money transacted more than USD 2 trillion globally in 2025 across 2.3 billion registered accounts, with Sub-Saharan Africa holding over half of all accounts and two-thirds of transaction value. Between 58 and 72 percent of mobile money fraud on the continent exploits trust rather than technology, yet current security architecture authenticates the sender and merely notifies the receiver, leaving the transaction execution moment structurally unguarded. This paper introduces the Receiver-Consent Transaction Protocol (RCTP), a USSD-native protocol requiring the receiver's active PIN consent on their physical SIM before any credit completes, grounded in Design Science Research with Routine Activity Theory …
Secondary Water Saturation Of The Rock Mass And Quality Of Rocks In Active Mine Areas Bordering The Flooded Workings Of Closed Mines, Mirosława Bukowska
Secondary Water Saturation Of The Rock Mass And Quality Of Rocks In Active Mine Areas Bordering The Flooded Workings Of Closed Mines, Mirosława Bukowska
Journal of Sustainable Mining
The goal of this paper was to inspect the influence of capillary water saturation on the specific strain energy of sedimentary rocks. The relationships between the determined specific strain energies in an air-dried state and in a state of capillary water saturation for detrital rock were exponential, with a strong correlation among the variables. For silt, the relationships were described by a second-degree polynomial function, and the correlation was medium or weak. The relationships for kinetic and dissipated energy were described with a linear function. Pearson correlation coefficients indicated a strong correlation among the variables for detrital rock and a …
