The Money Behind Mommy: Addressing The Exploitation Of Kidfluencers On Social Media, Emma Goodlet Sep 2025

The Money Behind Mommy: Addressing The Exploitation Of Kidfluencers On Social Media, Emma Goodlet

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

Child Influencers, or “kidfluencers,” have become prevalent on social media platforms and have amassed great fame. Kidfluencers are capable of making millions of dollars each year, but the industry remains largely unregulated because these children are not subject to typical child labor laws. Kidfluencers often suffer from financial and sexual exploitation, and psychological harm as a result of this exploitation. There are few effective federal laws to protect kidfluencers from exploitation and harm on social media, which has allowed kidfluencer exploitation to run rampant. Some states have begun to enact laws to protect kidfluencers in a similar manner to child …

Biting The Hands That Feed Us: Immigration Policy, Enforcement, And The Structural Vulnerability Of Agricultural Labor, Claire Kelly Sep 2025

Biting The Hands That Feed Us: Immigration Policy, Enforcement, And The Structural Vulnerability Of Agricultural Labor, Claire Kelly

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

The United States agricultural sector heavily relies on migrant labor, with undocumented workers composing a substantial share of the workforce. As the Trump Administration initiates its mass deportation policy, this article examines the far-reaching economic and legal consequences that such actions would impose on American agriculture. Mass deportation not only threatens to destabilize food production and inflate food prices, but it also exposes the longstanding legal neglect of farmworkers, whose labor protections remain fragile or non-existent under current U.S. law. This article analyzes the exploitation of agricultural workers embedded in the United States’ history, critiques the inadequacies of current programs …

Human Factors For A Better World: Case Studies In Community Ergonomics, Hanna J. Barton, Andrew Thactcher, Maurita T. Harris, Wendy A. Rogers, Dan Nathan-Roberts, Leah Newman, Carlo Caponecchia Sep 2025

Human Factors For A Better World: Case Studies In Community Ergonomics, Hanna J. Barton, Andrew Thactcher, Maurita T. Harris, Wendy A. Rogers, Dan Nathan-Roberts, Leah Newman, Carlo Caponecchia

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This panel brings together global experts to explore the evolving practice of community ergonomics—an approach that applies Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) to co-design systems with and for marginalized communities. Building on the lessons articulated in Barton et al. (2025), panelists will present diverse case studies that highlight both the promise and complexity of community-engaged HFE work. Panelists will reflect on the epistemological shifts, methodological adaptations, and relational commitments required to move toward genuine collaboration and social impact. Attendees will leave with tangible strategies for engaging communities as co-designers, as well as deeper insight into how our assumptions as HFE …

Bacterial infections continue to drive the need for more effective and rapid methods for bacterial analysis. To address this, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have emerged as promising tools, especially when their surfaces are modified with bacteria binders. The bis-zinc–dipicolylamine (Zn–DPA) complex is known for its broad affinity to bacteria. We have synthesized MNPs via a thermal decomposition method, encapsulated them in silica, modified their surface with Zn–DPA, and tested their ability to remove bacteria. The MNPs retain their superparamagnetic properties and crystallite structure after being encapsulated. The MNPs coated with silica and Zn–DPA effectively bind and remove both Gram-positive and Gram-negative …

Childhood Loneliness And Cognitive Decline And Dementia Risk In Middle-Aged And Older Adults, Jinqi Wang, Danyang Jiao, Xiaoyu Zhao, Yixing Tian, Haibin Li, Xia Li, Chen Sheng, Lixin Tao, Hui Chen, Zhiyuan Wu, Xiuhua Guo Sep 2025

Childhood Loneliness And Cognitive Decline And Dementia Risk In Middle-Aged And Older Adults, Jinqi Wang, Danyang Jiao, Xiaoyu Zhao, Yixing Tian, Haibin Li, Xia Li, Chen Sheng, Lixin Tao, Hui Chen, Zhiyuan Wu, Xiuhua Guo

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Importance: Adult loneliness has been linked to cognitive decline and dementia risk, but the long-term implications of childhood loneliness remain underexplored. Objectives: To investigate whether childhood loneliness is associated with cognitive decline and dementia risk and whether adult loneliness mediates or modifies these associations. Design, Setting, and Participants: This cohort study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, a nationally representative cohort study conducted between June 1, 2011, and December 31, 2018, with a maximum follow-up of 7 years. Data analyses were performed from October 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025. Exposure: Childhood loneliness was defined as …

Acoustic Wave Manipulation Through Sparse Robotic Actuation, Tristan Shah, Noam Smilovich, Feruza Amirkulova, Samer Gerges, Stas Tiomkin

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Recent advancements in robotics, control, and machine learning have facilitated progress in the challenging area of object manipulation. These advancements include, among others, the use of deep neural networks to represent dynamics that are partially observed by robot sensors, as well as effective control using sparse control signals. In this work, we explore a more general problem: the manipulation of acoustic waves, which are partially observed by a robot capable of influencing the waves through spatially sparse actuators. This problem holds great potential for the design of new artificial materials, ultrasonic cutting tools, energy harvesting, and other applications. We develop …
