Interview With A Film Professor, Jacey Terrill

What Happened Here

This is a transcript of an oral history with an associate professor of film, who was an assistant professor of film at the time of the protest at Cal Poly Humboldt. They had been teaching a class about social change through film and recalled letting their class out early, as the protest was just starting. The film professor realized later on the day of the protest how much more serious it had become, and signed up with other Art and Film Faculty to keep watch of the protesters to help them if police were to show up again. They emphasized …

Human Adipose Stem Cell-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Modulate Glial Cell Response In Aged And Young Tbi Mouse Models, Salma S. Abdelmaboud

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of long-term neurological impairment, with aging significantly increasing vulnerability and worsening outcomes. Older individuals experience greater cognitive and motor deficits after TBI and often show diminished responses to therapeutic interventions. Both aging and TBI independently promote heightened neuroinflammation and cognitive dysfunction, increasing susceptibility to poor recovery. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs) to promote neurological recovery and modulate neuroinflammation in a mouse model of TBI. Male C57BL/6 mice aged 3, 15, and 20 months underwent controlled cortical impact (CCI) and …

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Air pollution is a significant public health issue that impacts lung health, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Both natural and anthropogenic sources of air pollution give rise to a variety of toxic compounds, including particulate matter (PM), ozone (O₃), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Exposure to these pollutants is strongly associated with the development and exacerbation of respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Notably, early life exposure to pollutants such as …

Building Decolonial Nursing Curricula To Address Disparities In Indigenous Health, Nicole Ashley Thomas, Brenda Owen, Anne Ersig, Bram Wispelwey, Lisa C. Bratske

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Social and health inequities and inequalities are rising all over the world (Smith, 2012; McGibbon, et. al., 2014; Chinn, et. al., 2018). Nursing students should therefore be educated to understand the multifaceted factors creating health inequities. The lack of nursing courses highlighting the effects of colonization, environmental justice, upstream structural and social determinants of health, globalization, and state violence must be addressed. Colonization, broadly speaking, characterizes the Eurocentric project to “civilize” the rest of the world utilizing various forms of violence (McGibbon, et. al., 2014). The persistent and ongoing reproduction and recurrence of colonialism, enacting cycles of disenfranchisement and oppression, …

Sequenced Vehicle Guidance For Traffic Congestion Mitigation, Gaurav Gupta

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes systems and methods for mitigating vehicular gridlock, which can occur when circular dependencies between vehicles contribute to a traffic standstill. A disclosed system may utilize a coordination engine, for example a cloud-based service, that can receive real-time location data from client devices (e.g., smartphones, in-vehicle infotainment systems, wearable devices) associated with vehicles. The engine can construct a digital representation of the gridlocked area, which may include a dependency graph modeling the physical blocking relationships between vehicles. A gridlock resolution algorithm may then analyze the dependency graph to compute a sequence of vehicle movements designed to help clear …

Objective: Suicide among older adults represents a major public health concern and is closely associated with late-life depression (LLD). White matter hyperintensities (WMHs), frequently observed in the aging population, have been linked to both LLD and cognitive impairment. However, the role of WMH burden and cognitive dysfunction in older adults with LLD who have recently attempted suicide remains unclear. This study aims to investigate differences in WMH burden and cognitive performance across three groups: LLD patients with a recent suicide attempt (recent suicide attempt group, RSA), non-suicidal LLD patients (non-suicidal group, NS), and healthy older adults (healthy comparison group, HC). …

Bartók’S Romanian Folk Dances: A Consideration Of Sound And Movement, Bailey Frame Sep 2025

Bartók’S Romanian Folk Dances: A Consideration Of Sound And Movement, Bailey Frame

Theses and Dissertations

Béla Bartók (1881-1945) cared deeply about authenticity in his work. He continually passed by derivative versions, and instead sought the oldest, earliest, most inaugural version of each folk tune to use as that launching point for his compositions. As he collected the Transylvanian folk tunes that would become his Romanian Folk Dances, he disregarded inconveniences like bad weather and exhausting travel, and he doggedly lugged with him a newly invented Edison phonograph. Though it was unwieldy and fickle, the device allowed him to capture folk music in the moment it was created. Not one for sterile auditoriums or music studios, …

Complexity Study Of Knowledge And Public Observation, Avijeet Ghosh

Doctoral Theses

Automated planning has been a steady branch of research in the field of Artificial Intelligence. A very interesting branch of such planning studies is epistemic planning. Epistemic plans are such plans where the attained goal revolves around knowledge of some intelligent agents. One of the more popular modeling techniques and underlying language to handle knowledge of intelligent agents is provided by dynamic epistemic logic (DEL). It uses Kripke models that have possible states of truth and relations to model knowledge. It also uses a similar technique to model actions or events that update the knowledge state. Since DEL deals with …
