The Moderating Effects Of Community Involvement On The Association Between Witnessed Community Violence And Mental Health Outcomes Among Black Adolescents, Curtisha Tamara Shacklewood Oct 2025

The Moderating Effects Of Community Involvement On The Association Between Witnessed Community Violence And Mental Health Outcomes Among Black Adolescents, Curtisha Tamara Shacklewood

Theses and Dissertations

Black youth and adolescents are at a disproportionately high risk for experiencing community violence exposure (CVE) and the potential influence it may have on psychological functioning. Research posits that Black youth who experience community violence are at a significantly higher risk of experiencing elevated internalizing symptoms (e.g., depression) and externalizing symptoms (e.g., delinquency). Previous research has utilized the ecological model to investigate interpersonal protective factors that potentially buffer the effects of CVE, including parental support and family characteristics. However, there is little research that explores community-level factors, such as community activities (e.g., youth activities and parental perception of collective efficacy) …

Improved Extraction And Detection Of Disinfection Byproducts, Impacts Of Wildland-Urban Interface Wildfires On Drinking Water, And Change In Disinfection Byproducts Over Time In Chlorinated Vs. Chloraminated Distribution Systems, Patrick Thomas Justen

Theses and Dissertations

Drinking water disinfection is critical to prevent the occurrence of waterborne pathogens in drinking water. However, disinfection causes the unintended formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) through the reaction of disinfectants (e.g., chlorine, chloramine) with natural organic matter (NOM), algal matter, or anthropogenic pollutants present in source waters. Exposure to DBPs is associated with increased bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, miscarriage, and birth defects. The U.S. EPA currently regulates eleven DBPs in drinking water—four trihalomethanes, five haloacetic acids, bromate, and chlorite. However, research shows that DBP related toxicity in drinking water is driven mainly by other, non-regulated DBPs, particularly iodinated DBPs and …

Determination Of Tensile Strength Distribution Of Single Carbon Fibers At Microscale Gagelengths, Karan Deepak Shah Oct 2025

Determination Of Tensile Strength Distribution Of Single Carbon Fibers At Microscale Gagelengths, Karan Deepak Shah

Theses and Dissertations

High performance carbon fibers are widely used as reinforcements in composite material systems for aerospace, automotive, and defense applications. The tensile strength of commercial fibers is significantly less than its theoretical limits. The composite systems are often overdesigned, thus any increase in the fiber tensile strength can yield significant cost and weight savings. Modification of fiber surface treatment (sizing) during manufacturing is a potential route to enhance fiber strength. Single fiber tensile testing at millimeter-scale is typically used to characterize the effect of sizing on the fiber strength. However, the longitudinal tensile failure of a composite system is a result …

Downwind-Upwind Flux Path Analysis Method For Model Reduction Performance Evaluations, Christian Robert Smith Oct 2025

Downwind-Upwind Flux Path Analysis Method For Model Reduction Performance Evaluations, Christian Robert Smith

Theses and Dissertations

Large, complex chemical kinetic models have long since been limited by the computational cost it takes to evaluate said model. Over time many reduction methods have been developed to combat this computational cost. However, very little has been done towards evaluating the limitations of reductions as a way of understanding the original model’s characteristics. This paper aimed to use a path flux analysis-based reduction algorithm to rapidly develop multiple reduced mechanisms for a 96 species FFCM-2 methane chemical kinetic model as well as an 858 species n-Dodecane chemical kinetic model. The goal of formulating these reduced mechanisms was to identify …

New Approaches On Source Coding For Quantum Stochastic Sources And Implementation Of Quantum Fanout Gate, Rabins Wosti Oct 2025

New Approaches On Source Coding For Quantum Stochastic Sources And Implementation Of Quantum Fanout Gate, Rabins Wosti

Theses and Dissertations

The accurate computation of advanced quantum algorithms like Shor’s integer factorization, quantum phase estimation (QPE), and the quantum Fourier transform (QFT) requires quantum circuits of considerable size and depth. It is difficult to achieve reliable computation with deep quantum circuits due to the limited coherence times of the current noisy quantum devices. The quantum fanout gate is known to be a powerful primitive for reducing the depth of many quantum circuits (Høyer and Špalek 2003; Gottesman and Chuang 1999). Shallow or constant-depth quantum circuits are desirable for both near-term and fault-tolerant quantum computations as they reduce noise and allow faster …
