Microclimatic Conditions In Shulgan-Tash Cave (Southern Ural, Russia): Implications For The Preservation Of Eastern Europe’S Largest Paleolithic Art Collection, Olga Chervyatsova, Rayan Akhmedyanovb, Nailya Saifullina, Ludmila Kuzmina, Mihael Kotov, Yuri Dublyansky

International Journal of Speleology

This study presents the results of a long-term investigation of the microclimatic conditions in Shulgan-Tash Cave (Southern Urals, Russia), which hosts the largest assemblage of Upper Paleolithic paintings (ca. 16.3–19.6 ka) in Eastern Europe. The cave exhibits two distinct seasonal ventilation regimes – winter and summer – differentially influence its two levels of galleries. In the Lower Level, which contains 83% of the images, near-atmospheric CO2 concentrations persist year-round, and temperature variations associated with seasonal infiltration events are minimal (1.0–1.3°C). By contrast, the Upper Level, including the decorated Hall of Paintings, is affected by downdrafts of CO2-rich …

Silent Signals: Human Trafficking And The Dental Professional’S Duty To Act, Pamela Zarkowski

Journal of the American College of Dentists

Human trafficking is a global public health and human rights crisis that includes forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation. Dental professionals are uniquely positioned to recognize signs of trafficking, as many victims encounter healthcare settings, including dental offices, during their exploitation. This article introduces the types and prevalence of trafficking, outlines legal and ethical responsibilities, and provides clinical red flags, case scenarios, and actionable strategies for screening and reporting. Myths that hinder detection are also addressed. By recognizing their ethical duty to protect vulnerable patients, dental professionals can become vital allies in the identification and support of trafficking survivors.

Confinement-Induced Resonances For The Creation Of Quasi-One-Dimensional Ultracold Gases Of Alkali–Alkaline-Earth Dimers, Lorenzo Oghittu, Premjith Thekkeppatt, Nirav P. Mehta, Seth T. Rittenhouse, Klaasjan Van Druten, Florian Schreck, Arghavan Safavi-Naini Oct 2025

Confinement-Induced Resonances For The Creation Of Quasi-One-Dimensional Ultracold Gases Of Alkali–Alkaline-Earth Dimers, Lorenzo Oghittu, Premjith Thekkeppatt, Nirav P. Mehta, Seth T. Rittenhouse, Klaasjan Van Druten, Florian Schreck, Arghavan Safavi-Naini

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Research

We theoretically investigate the role of confinement-induced resonances (CIRs) in low-dimensional ultracold atomic mixtures in the formation of weakly bound dimers. To this end, we examine the scattering properties of a binary atomic mixture confined by a quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) potential. In this regime, the interspecies two-body interaction is modeled as an effective 1D zero-range pseudopotential, with a coupling strength g1D derived as a function of the three-dimensional scattering length a. This framework enables the study of CIRs in harmonically confined systems, with particular attention paid to the case of mismatched transverse trapping frequencies of the two atomic species. Finally, we …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Leukemia is a malignant disorder that affects the bone marrow and blood. It is frequently diagnosed in adults, with a higher incidence in males than females. Globally, it ranks as the 15th most widespread cancer and is the 11th leading cause of cancer-related fatalities. The intensity and severity of treatment have increased, leading to a rise in relapse rates, toxicity, and adverse health effects. Therefore, there is a critical need for new treatments. The antileukemic properties of natural compounds have been extensively studied. Aquatic organisms are a rich source of potential medicinal compounds. Anticancer peptides offer an ideal treatment approach …

A Comparative Study Of Diagnostic Performance In Shoulder Pain: Clinical Tests Versus Ultrasonography And Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Yasemi̇n Tombak, Özgür Zeli̇ha Karaahmet, Ayşegül Tombak, Ömer Ata, Eda Gürçay Oct 2025

A Comparative Study Of Diagnostic Performance In Shoulder Pain: Clinical Tests Versus Ultrasonography And Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Yasemi̇n Tombak, Özgür Zeli̇ha Karaahmet, Ayşegül Tombak, Ömer Ata, Eda Gürçay

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Shoulder pain is common and often evaluated with physical examination tests, yet their diagnostic accuracy remains controversial. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) rates of clinical test results in patients with shoulder pain, based on ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings as reference diagnostic methods.

Materials and methods: The study included 78 patients who had complaints of shoulder pain. All patients underwent physical examinations and specific clinical tests (such as Neer and Jobe tests) to reveal shoulder pathologies, and US and MRI …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Olfaction is necessary for healthy sexual intercourse. Better smell has been associated with a more positive sexual experience.

Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 40 patients diagnosed with a smell disorder and 60 healthy volunteers were included. The participants were divided into 2 groups according to sex. The female group had 19 patients and 25 female controls. The male group had 21 patients and 35 male controls. Sniffin’ Sticks tests, the World Health Organization quality of life assessment (WHOQOL), and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) were applied to all participants. In addition, the international index of erectile …
