Background and Purpose: Ecuador has one of the highest rates of youth pregnancy and intimate partner violence (IPV) (1). Youth pregnancy and IPV may also increase other risks, such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) (2). In Ecuador, HIV remains a concentrated epidemic that disproportionately affects youth aged 15–24 (2,3). Despite nationwide concern, little is known about these issues in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. The unique context of the Galapagos requires a distinct exploration of pathways linking youth pregnancy, IPV and HIV. The purpose of this study is to understand young adults’ perspectives about risk and protective factors for youth …

Periodic Adjustments — The Dialogue Continues, Reuven S. Avi-Yonah, Jeffery M. Kadet
Articles
Michael McDonald has continued an important dialogue that requires more attention from both taxpayers and the government. In reply to our recent article, McDonald has expressed his disagreement with a number of issues that each of us has adequately covered. We'll just have to agree to disagree on those matters, some of which will eventually play out in the courts. In this article, we will cover a few issues that McDonald has raised that we believe will be useful to this ongoing dialogue.

This Court should consider those most directly impacted by the decision in this case: the intended beneficiaries of Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program (“UPK”), Colorado’s children. To paraphrase Shakespeare, though they be but little, they are constitutional rights-bearers and are thus entitled to be free from state-funded discrimination.
Amici are scholars of children and the law, education law, family law, and anti-discrimination law. Amici draw this Court’s attention to the significant harms children in the LGBT community would bear should Colorado be compelled to allow state-funded religious schools to discriminate against preschoolers. Exempting religious schools from the State’s equal-opportunity and antidiscrimination …

Most biological processes are dynamic, yet experimental methods predominantly rely on steady-state measurements to investigate their underlying mechanisms. RNA localization is a fundamental aspect of eukaryotic cell organization and is dynamically regulated by cells. While extensively studied in specialized cell types for a limited number of candidate RNAs, the general principles governing dynamic RNA localization at a transcriptome-wide scale remain largely unexplored. Existing transcriptome-wide studies provide only a static snapshot of RNAs residing in specific cellular locales, in part due to the limited availability of tools for probing cellular spatial organization at biologically relevant scales. Here, we leverage the high …

Hydrogels For Local Drug Delivery In Biofilm-Associated Periprosthetic Joint Infection: Current Progress And Future Directions, Karolina Kraus, Pawel Mikziński, Bindu Subhadra, Emil Paluch
Faculty Publications - Biological Sciences
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) remains one of the most serious complications of arthroplasty, largely due to the formation of microbial biofilms on implant surfaces. Biofilm-associated infections exhibit increased tolerance to antimicrobial therapy and host immune responses, making eradication difficult and often requiring repeated surgical interventions. Consequently, there is a growing need for effective local therapeutic strategies capable of delivering high concentrations of antimicrobial agents directly to the site of infection while minimizing systemic toxicity. Hydrogels have emerged as promising drug delivery platforms for the management of biofilm-associated PJI. Their biocompatibility, injectability, high water content, and tunable physicochemical properties enable controlled …

Reliance on fossil fuels, combined with the physical limits of ground-based solar arrays, makes a strong case for collecting solar energy in orbit. Earth intercepts roughly 1.4 kW/m² at the top of the atmosphere, but absorption by carbon dioxide and water vapour and atmospheric scattering cut peak surface intensity to about 1.1 kW/m², this results in an over a 20% reduction. While inclination, time of day, and weather restrict that to a narrow band of land for a few hours each day.
The Solar Incident Energy Relay Array (SIERA) is a proposed mission that will create a single 6U CubeSat …

Development Of A Design Tool For 3d-Printable Cold Gas Thruster Systems For Nanosatellite Missions, Mikolaj Szyszka, Katherine Smith
Small Satellite Conference
Currently, there are 5219 Nanosatellites and CubeSats in orbit [1]. A decade ago, this number was only 800 [1], with forecasts predicting a total of 14,000 small satellites in orbit by 2033 [2]. However, out of the ones that are currently operational, only about 5% are equipped with a propulsion system. Omitting the electric and classified thrusters, cold gas systems are the most popular due to their simplicity and ease of operation. This shows a general lack of manoeuvrability and agility within small satellites in orbit. The proposed C.O.N.E tool aims to bridge the gap between nanosatellite manufacturers and simple …

- Earth observation (EO) satellites represent the largest and fastest growing segment of the satellite industry [1].
- Higher imaging resolution can be achieved either by enlarging the optical system-which increases satellite dry mass-or by lowering operational altitude, where increased atmospheric drag demands continuous propulsive orbit maintenance[2].
- At Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO), atmospheric drag increases significantly, requiring a dedicated propulsion system for sustained orbit maintenance.
- Hydrazine (N2H4) has been the conventional propellant choice, but its high toxicity incurs substantial handling costs, and its low vapor pressure necessitates a …

The Problem:
Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations increasingly rely on Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISL) to route data across dynamic satellite networks. As satellites move through their orbits, communications continuously change due to line-of-sight constraints, link quality variations, and spacecraft pointing limitations. Traditional routing approaches often consider network optimization separately from spacecraft attitude control, creating a disconnect between planned routes and physically achievable communication links. This work addresses the challenge of simultaneously generating communication routes while validating that satellites can physically point toward their assigned target. The result is an end-to-end framework that integrates network planning, optical link feasibility, and spacecraft …
