Parenting For Autonomy: New Insights Into Warmth, Leniency, And Emotion Regulation, Elizabeth O. Arroyo, Ana Paula M. Constantino, Dolly P. Rojo Jan 2026

Parenting For Autonomy: New Insights Into Warmth, Leniency, And Emotion Regulation, Elizabeth O. Arroyo, Ana Paula M. Constantino, Dolly P. Rojo

Modern Psychological Studies

Past parenting research has focused on Maccoby and Martin's (1983) two parenting qualities, Warmth and Demandingness. We know that these can affect several children's outcomes, including academic achievements (e.g., Pinquart, 2016) and self-esteem (Pinquart & Gerke, 2019). Still, we know less about the impacts of parental qualities on children’s autonomy, and even less about the impact that qualities of more modern parenting styles (e.g., emphasis on promotion of emotional regulation skills) might have on children’s outcomes. Our study explores the associations of parent’s Warmth, Demandingness, leniency, and promotion of emotional regulation skills on children’s autonomy. We predicted that parental Warmth, …

Density-dependent population regulation is a fundamental driver in the population dynamics of living systems, ensuring a balanced and sustainable maintenance in nature. It has been suggested that the adverse developmental and morphological effect of high larval density in container mosquitoes represents a significant limiting factor for population density, and the need to investigate this possible importance within the framework of field-based principles has been emphasized. This semi-field study, conducted under the natural thermal regime and using a natural population in Turkish Thrace, aimed to examine the effects of non-food-limiting larval density (crowding effect) in the mosquito species, Culex pipiens ( …

Adaptive Electric Vehicle Routing And Charging With Deep Reinforcement Learning, Mandana Farhang Ghahfarokhi, Hyoshin Park, Venktesh Pandey, Gyugeun Yoon

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

As electric vehicles (EVs) gain popularity, efficient routing and charging solutions remain challenging due to time-dependent travel variability, sparse charging infrastructure, and heterogeneous user preferences. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a decision-support system that integrates three complementary methods: Temporal Multimodal Multivariate Learning (TMML) for real-time characterization of travel time uncertainty, Time-Dependent Shortest Path (TDSP) for reliability-aware route choice, and Deep Q-Network (DQN) reinforcement learning for adaptive charging decisions in sparse infrastructure environments. TMML updates link-level travel time distributions in real-time through Bayesian inference with cluster-based propagation, reducing uncertainties across the network. TDSP leverages these updated distributions to estimate …

A. Vs. I In Ai: Is There A Threshold To "Engineered" Intelligence?, Joshit Mohanty Jan 2026

A. Vs. I In Ai: Is There A Threshold To "Engineered" Intelligence?, Joshit Mohanty

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

Despite artificial intelligence reshaping the world, its development generates uncertainties regarding future capabilities. AI simultaneously exists as an artifact of engineering design and as autonomous intelligence, creating an observer-participant feedback loop. This paper proposes that embodied AI faces a bandwidth-limited intelligence threshold T_h that it arises from B = min(C_sens,C_Act). However, Shannon capacity measures bits while intelligence operates on concepts, necessitating a dual-channel model separating physical bandwidth B_io from representational capacity B_rep. Intelligence emerges as multi-dimensional rather than scalar, with components exhibiting different bandwidth dependencies. Surpassing T_h requires either new sensing methods expanding B, enhanced representational frameworks, or reconceptualization within …

We present a safe and efficient path planning framework for nanobot navigation in complex vascular networks, enabling precise drug delivery to hard-to-reach tumor regions such as those found in the lungs. The proposed method introduces a safe and efficient path planning strategy that integrates a utility-based function to balance two key goals: exploring uncertain areas to gather valuable information and avoiding hazardous regions to ensure safe and reliable delivery. We evaluate a simplified swarm-based nanobot navigation scenario using synthetic vascular maps that mimic the structural complexity of lung tumor blood vessels. Environmental uncertainty is modeled from vessel topology, blockage density, …

Frequency And Phase Synchronization Of Antenna Arrays With Phase Incoherent Microcontrollers, Harley W. Byrd Jan 2026

Frequency And Phase Synchronization Of Antenna Arrays With Phase Incoherent Microcontrollers, Harley W. Byrd

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

The construction of phased array antennas has traditionally been an expensive and complex task. It has recently been claimed that it is possible to construct high-performance Wi Fi antenna arrays using inexpensive consumer components. Motivated by some limited data available from online presentations of such devices, this thesis covers an attempt to construct a phased-array Wi-Fi antenna using several ESP32 chips, which have native Wi-Fi modulation and demodulation capabilities. While there are many positive aspects associated with utilizing ESP32 chips for this purpose, a key challenge is the inherent phase incoherence of their internal Phase Locked Loops (PLLs). The approach …

Increasing Access To Justice Through The Use Of Indigenous Restorative Justice And Trauma Informed Practices, Carrie E. Garrow, Danielle J. Mayberry, Micaelee Horn

South Dakota Law Review

Tribal judiciaries are paramount to tribal sovereignty and accessed by court users for many purposes. Access to justice ensures that everyone should be able to understand and assert their rights in a fair tribal justice system. This can be a challenge for rural areas, but even more so in Indian Country due to the complex web of factors such as legal and jurisdictional complexities, the colonization of Indian Nations by federal and state governments, and resource restraints. Due to these barriers and as an effort to serve their communities, tribal justice systems develop mechanisms that are solution based and at …

Under-Enforcement Of Tribal Land Use Regulations, Ezra Rosser Jan 2026

Under-Enforcement Of Tribal Land Use Regulations, Ezra Rosser

South Dakota Law Review

This brief Article explores the advantages and disadvantages of the under-enforcement of land use regulations by the Navajo Nation. Though scholarship on economic development, including tribal economic development, tends to emphasize the importance of well-defined and predictable rules, homeowners and entrepreneurs seeking land use permissions confront an environment on the reservation marked by under-enforcement. As this Article shows, the limited resources available to many tribal members help explain the tribe’s decision to selectively under-enforce otherwise required land use permitting processes. The purpose of this Article is to neither praise nor condemn an under-enforcement strategy, but instead to provide a framework …
