Re-Dating An Inklings Photograph, Harry Lee Poe Jan 2026

Re-Dating An Inklings Photograph, Harry Lee Poe

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Perhaps the most delightful and helpful introductory biography of C. S. Lewis is Walter Hooper’s Through Joy and Beyond: A Pictorial Biography. Published in 1982, it was the first book I reviewed for an academic journal as a freshly minted PhD graduate. The lavish presence of photographs takes the reader into the world of Lewis from his earliest childhood until his death in 1963. Hooper probably knew more about Lewis and his works than any other person, but even Hooper had to make educated guesses from time to time, which very rarely proved wrong.

“Frankenstein’S Nursery Rhymes” And Other Unpublished Poems By Joy Davidman, Don W. King Jan 2026

“Frankenstein’S Nursery Rhymes” And Other Unpublished Poems By Joy Davidman, Don W. King

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

In 2015 I edited and published A Naked Tree: Joy Davidman’s Love Sonnets to C. S. Lewis and Other Poems. I avoided referring to this volume as the collected poems of Davidman since I decided to withhold publication of twenty-nine poems, primarily because I wanted the attention of readers to focus upon Davidman’s forty-five sonnets to Lewis as well as the poems comprising Letter to a Comrade, the only collection of her verse published during her lifetime. However, I now think it is time to bring these unpublished poems to print. With a few exceptions, I have arranged the poems …

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods can quantify user journey progression in digital advertising analytics, as some static, rule-based models may not capture the non-linear nature of certain user behaviors. The disclosed technology can utilize a data-driven framework with a sequential prediction model, such as an n-gram model, to analyze user interaction data. Raw user actions can be ingested and mapped to discrete symbols, or grams, which can then be formed into chronological sequences representing user journeys. The model can process these advertiser-specific sequences to compute a transition probability table that quantifies the likelihood of a user's next action based on their recent …

Generation Of Synthetic Photographs Via Video Synthesis And Heuristic Frame Selection, Mira Leung Jan 2026

Generation Of Synthetic Photographs Via Video Synthesis And Heuristic Frame Selection, Mira Leung

Defensive Publications Series

Generating novel synthetic photographs of locations can be challenging, as some generative techniques may introduce visual artifacts or compositional inconsistencies when creating new camera perspectives. The described systems and methods can address this by using two or more source images as input for a generative video synthesis model. The model can produce a short video that interpolates or extrapolates between the viewpoints of the source images, creating a set of new, spatially coherent camera angles. This generated video may then be deconstructed into a pool of candidate frames. A heuristic, such as a feature similarity score, can be used to …

Scientific Research In Geography In Morocco: Origins, Challenges And Perspectives, Anass Benichou, Said Abannay

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Geographical research in Morocco plays a strategic role in understanding territorial transformations, urban expansion, rural migration, and climate-related challenges. Since the colonial period, the discipline has evolved from descriptive mapping to an applied science integrated within national universities. Moroccan geographers have contributed to sustainable resource management, urban planning, and major development projects, linking scientific knowledge with public policy. Despite these advances, the field faces structural, financial, and methodological constraints, limiting its international visibility and practical impact. The adoption of digital tools such as GIS, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence has enhanced predictive and analytical capacities. Future development depends on methodological …

How Do Women Maintain Access To Land In The Context Of Multiple Land Users In Contemporary Rural Tanzania?, Rose George Mbezi, Rosemarie Mwaipopo

Tanzania Journal of Sociology

Rural Tanzania is increasingly experiencing a growing heterogeneity of land users, driven by demographic shifts, socio-economic changes, and policy transformations, all of which influence women's ability to maintain secure access to land. Customary practices such as marriage, inheritance, and communal property access are now being practiced alongside statutory frameworks, including land policies and the transformation of communal land into private property, often influenced by economic investments and land acquisitions. Although legislative frameworks have been established to facilitate land access for both men and women, they remain insufficient, as women continue to face challenges in sustaining access to land amidst the …

Institute for ECHO Articles and Research

The rapid deterioration of global infrastructure necessitates precise and automated crack detection technologies for proactive maintenance. However, deep learning-based segmentation models often suffer from a scarcity of diverse, high-quality labeled datasets. This study proposes StyleSPADE, a novel conditional image generation model that integrates semantic masks and style images to synthesize realistic crack data with diverse background textures while preserving precise geometric morphology. To validate the effectiveness of the generated data, we conducted extensive semantic segmentation tasks using Transformer-based (Mask2Former, Swin-UPerNet) and CNN-based (K-Net) models. Experimental results demonstrate that StyleSPADE-based augmentation significantly outperforms baseline models, achieving a Crack IoU of 0.6376 …

The Crucible Of Marriage: Faith, Formation, And Spiritual Autonomy In Jane Eyre, Diana Pitsch Jan 2026

The Crucible Of Marriage: Faith, Formation, And Spiritual Autonomy In Jane Eyre, Diana Pitsch

Masters Theses

This thesis treats marriage in Jane Eyre as the crucible of Jane's unique, experiential, and individually crafted faith. It examines marriage as the primary arena in which Jane's faith is shaped, tested, and, ultimately, fulfilled. Situated within Victorian Evangelical culture and restrictive gender ideology, the study examines how Jane’s spirituality is shaped through personal discernment rather than submission to institutional authority. Through close readings of Gateshead, Lowood, and Jane’s encounters with Rochester and St. John Rivers, the thesis demonstrates how Jane’s faith is tested against both passionate attachment and prescribed religious duty. Her refusal of both proposals reveals a developing …

The Mono Basin Project: Remedying Environmental Injustice Through Tribal Beneficial Use Designations, Molly Greene Jan 2026

The Mono Basin Project: Remedying Environmental Injustice Through Tribal Beneficial Use Designations, Molly Greene

UC Law Environmental Journal

Due to a history of violence, dispossession, and racism, Native American tribes in California face structural disadvantages and inequities with respect to water rights. At the same time, tribes lack meaningful legal remedies to gain access to the water resources necessary to maintain their ways of life. One key issue is that California water agencies traditionally did not consider tribal water uses when implementing water quality control laws, leaving such uses unprotected. For years, tribes have urged the State to fill in these gaps in the law by adopting tribal beneficial uses (“TBUs”), which would protect tribal water uses, such …

Recognizing Arab Climate Refugees Under Both International And Regional Law, Fatemah Albader, Rahima Musaliar Jan 2026

Recognizing Arab Climate Refugees Under Both International And Regional Law, Fatemah Albader, Rahima Musaliar

UC Law Environmental Journal

Climate change is increasingly displacing populations worldwide, yet existing international and regional legal frameworks, including the 1951 Refugee Convention and the Arab Charter on Human Rights, fail to recognize climate refugees as a protected category. These legal instruments define refugees narrowly, limiting protection to individuals fleeing persecution on specific grounds such as race, religion, or political opinion. As climate change accelerates environmental degradation, resulting in extreme weather events, desertification, and resource scarcity, millions of people are being forced to migrate, often across international borders, without legal recourse or asylum rights. This Article argues that climate refugees should be afforded the …

The Case For A Moratorium On Deep-Sea Mining: The International Seabed Authority, Indigenous Rights, And Marine Ecosystems In The Eastern Pacific, Afrah A. Qoqandi

UC Law Environmental Journal

The rising interest in deep-sea commercial exploitation has sparked a powerful debate over the environmental and social justice implications of mining the ocean’s depths for valuable minerals. Deep-sea mining targets polymetallic nodules found on the seabed, containing metals critical for green technologies like electric vehicles and solar cells. The Clarion-Clipperton Zone (“CCZ”) in the eastern Pacific is estimated to hold more nickel, manganese, and cobalt than all terrestrial resources combined. As one of the last largely untouched ecosystems, deep-sea mining in the CCZ raises significant concerns about the irreversible harm to its biodiversity and the disruption to Indigenous communities reliant …
